Sen. Russell Feingold (D-WI) is facing a dilemma, whether to stand on his principles or to vote with his party. Politicians of both parties regularly face these kind of issues, but they're usually well hidden from public view - allowing those who tow toe the party line to avoid the spotlight. Feingold is in a much more visible bind. He is on record (repeatedly) proclaiming that his view that a president should be able to choose their associates (except in extreme cases) is the reason he votes to confirm Bush appointees. Feingold expressed that view when he voted for Condoleezza Rice in January and in 2001, when he was the only Senate Foreign Relations Committee Democrat to vote for John Bolton's nomination to be undersecretary of State.
Democratic sources say Feingold is reconsidering his past position, and they expect him to vote against Bolton when his nomination to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations comes before committee next week. Feingold's aides say only that he "is going to be reserving judgment until he hears from the nominee at the hearing."
Perhaps Senate Democrats are trying to publicly shame Feingold into a party line vote?

Yes it is "toe the line"
I hope he doesn't cave, and I look forward to Bolton as ambassador. If we are going to continue to support the UN and participate I want somebody who will at least try to hold them accountable there.

Bolton, Albright, Negroponte... what's the difference?
They're all just megalomaniacal shitbags who can't make a living in the private sector (just like Alan Greenspan). They're all moral vacuums with no compunction for displaying rank hypocrisy and spouting whatever bullshit they think will fly with the TV news.
All political positions should be filled by selecting folks AT RANDOM from the adult population; does anybody actually believe that governance would be manifestly WORSE under such a system?
There is NO WAY that sociopaths like Negroponte and Albright would even get a JOB if their respective Administrations were run by anyone other than vermin whose primary loyalty is to their Party.
With Randomocracy (which is what I call it) there can be no political parties, and therefore no parasitic vermin swanning around the planet as they let their campaign contributors lay waste to the entire fabric of society.
Oh, and under Randomocracy, the NeoTrots would not have a smowball's chance in hell of getting their lunatic, idiotc schemes to fly... (I always call them NeoTrots because that's what they are...they are certainly NOT consevative.)
Bush lacket, Clinton lackey, Likud lackey... why the arse-ing hell would anybody think it matters which group of social vampires does the choosing? May as well get excited about which overpaid prick gets the golden parachute as shareholders get the shaft... (actually I get riled about that all the time).
Great blog - I might even try and rip-off the CSS (I've got the design-savvy of a Springbok front-rower).
Peace,

Bolton is a reprehensible choice. But that's probably the point, eh?
Find the most egregiously disgusting individual possible that has no respect for anything that isn't completely American.
Freedom fries all around!
