I seem to be falling into a pattern of my poems -- serious one day, humorous the next. That means that this one ought to be serious again.
This one was, oddly enough, inspired by a character from an old movie. I don't recall if it was a Clint Eastwood or a Charles Bronson movie, but I'm pretty sure it was one of those. There was a woman who had been brutally assaulted, and retreated into a catatonic state.
Normally I don't like "explaining" my writing -- my teacher's decree that a piece must stand or fall on its own, without elaboration is practically a tenet of faith with me -- I don't want anyone to think this piece is derived from any personal experience.
Sanctuary
They cannot hurt me here,
They cannot touch me here.
Safe from all the pain,
Safe from all the fear.
Where hands cannot reach
And eyes cannot see,
In this place that's all my own
Is where I can be free.
They cannot hurt me here,
They cannot touch me here.

Poetry isn't my cup of tea so I must decline comment on that (no offense meant), but the movie was Charles Bronson's "Death Wish" (the first--and only--good one in the series).

The movie could have been Eastwood's Sudden Impact also, Sondra Locke's sister was gangraped and catatonic also.

Yup, I'm pretty sure it was "Sudden Impact." I thought it was Sondra Locke in the movie, too.

Both Sondra and her sister were raped, the sister went catatonic. And what is it with Clint dating scrawny blond chicks and insisting they star in all his movies? Dammit, that ugly ass Sondra damned near ruined Josey Wales. Good thing Clint's just so damned bad-ass.

Actually I thought Sondra Locke was kinda cute. Couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag, but cute. But that's just me.

Sorry about that. I got a message telling me it didn't go through the first time so I hit it again.
