In a humorously titled Op-ed piece The caveat emperor, Boston Globe columnist Joan Vennochi notes that Senator John Kerry is triangulating toward a full release of his military records. Of course with Kerry nothing is ever cut and dried...
During an interview yesterday with Boston Globe editorial writers and columnists, the former Democratic presidential nominee was asked if had signed Form SF 180, authorizing the Department of Defense to grant access to all his military records. We'll be waiting and watching.''I have signed it," Kerry said. Then, he added that his staff was ''still going through it" and ''very, very shortly, you will have a chance to see it."
The devil is usually in the details. With Kerry, it's also in the dodges and digressions. After the interview, Kerry's communications director, David Wade, was asked to clarify when Kerry signed SF 180 and when public access would be granted. Kerry drifted over to join the conversation, immediately raising the confusion level. He did not answer the question of when he signed the form or when the entire record will be made public.
Several e-mails later, Wade conveyed the following information: On Friday, May 20, Kerry obtained a copy of Form 180 and signed it. ''The next step is to send it to the Navy, which will happen in the next few days. The Navy will then send out the records," e-mailed Wade. Kerry first said he would sign Form 180 when pressed by Tim Russert during a Jan. 30 appearance on ''Meet the Press."
Update: Others are wondering. Judicial Watch has said there are approximately 100 documents in his file that they were unable to obtain without the SF 180 signed. Michelle Malkin notes that there is confusion as which documents would be covered: all, some, or only those allowed by Kerry. NZ Bear wonders a signed SF 180 allows those with knowledge of his complete service record to speak publicly.
As with all things related to John Kerry and his military service, the shortest distance between his biography and the truth seems to be a circuitous trip around several different spin cycles...

His staff is still going through it? Do we have to get him to define "it" now? Because if "it" had not been sent in yet, what is his staff going through? Form 180? It's pretty brief.
I want to see a copy of "it". Form 180 I mean. Is he requesting a "deleted" or "undeleted" report of separation?
I'm so confused.

John Kerry is an ass. His associates and assistants are asses. Those who seek to protect him are asses by association. The ass in him has risen to the surface and by it's stink has driven away any shred of humility left in him.
May the ass continue his ass-like ways and be exposed for the ass he is.

OOOOH so he "signed" the 180 he just did not return it to the Navy.
Very clever that Kerry.

Procuring and licking the postage stamp will undoubtedly take more months. Also expect further months of delay getting it to the post office.

Is the Kerry camp misunderstanding part of this, or is it me ?
When they say "The Navy will then send out the records" isn't that only partly correct.
I thought once the Form 180 was signed (oh and submitted, too) that the Navy was then free to release ALL his records to ANYONE that requests them. Meaning Kerry et al would no longer be the keeper of the records for public consumption, the Navy would be. And I just don't see the Navy holding back.

Ha!
But you left out a couple of things. First, no one has said that the Form 180 he "signed" has actually been filled out. With Kerry's name. Filling out a whole form can take forever.
Plus, they have to fold the form and place it in the envelope. Who knows how long that could take?
Then, they have to write the Navy's address on the envelope. That process alone could take months.

I heard that the completed forms were ready to be sent off to the Navy. However, during a recent intern gang-bang, Teddy K. spilled a Rob Roy (along with some DNA) on them and smudged the signatures. Now Kerry is waiting for the Navy to send him new forms.
That's what I heard...

From the instructions on the SF-180, it looks like the only document normally released by this form is the DD-214.
We've seen Kerry's whitewashed DD-214.

Gee I thought he was "crystal clear." He signed it, and now his staff has to draft the "attachment" that contains all the exclusions and conditions and instructions as to what can be produced, by whom, to whom, when, and in what color.

My conclusion is that Kerry and his, whoever they are, have now had so much time to completely rework and rehash, wash and recycle anything and everything they could find in relation to Kerry's "military record," such that whatever is (eventually) "released" in reference to that record will never be reliable.
Given Kerry's curious remark some months ago about "we'll get around to it, we'll get it done..." in reference to signing the form (180) and his and his (whoever "we" was and is that Kerry referred to) having as much time as to do whatever they wanted to do (he also included statements at that same televised appearance as him and his "depending on what's in there..." conditional release terms), what I concluded even then was that Kerry and workers were going about a combover or editing process as to what was included IN the "record" BEFORE and/or as a condition of his signing the release form, such that he'd sign the release form only after there'd been a review (and whatever else was necessary) of the contents, ensuring that was eventually released would be tolerable and acceptable to Kerry...thereby rendering it a non-record military record thing.
I do believe that almost certainly Kerry had a dishonorable discharge from service and/or certainly some sort of disciplinary action in relationship to his meet in Paris with the North Vietnamese while still enlisted in service (an act of treason if ever there was one), along with his other activities during those times, and that he's just been dragging along all this time inorder to ensure that what might/would be "released" later would have been handpicked and thoroughly edited by Kerry and whomever to remove damaging content.
It's still being reported that Kerry's staff is "still reviewing" the actual FORM, so if they dovote that much time to the very form itself as they now say they are, you can be sure Kerry's got problems with what the form will or might have enabled. Such that, he's been "cleansing" the record itself, with helps.
Like a lot of people, I conclude, otherwise, why all the foot dragging? Kerry almost certainly got a lot of editing helps from former President Carter (then and now, I am thinking) so whatever "record" is eventually available to public review will almost certainly not represent reality.
I very much disrespect John Kerry. If for only that so many good Americans have served and served honorably, much moreso suffered and died, while Kerry has tapped mightily into a very dishonorable life where his military term was and remains considered. That he has been in our Senate for so many years is just moreso dishonorable, in my view.

Kerry and his people are engaged in a cruel word game with this form. They seem to be enjoying their deliberations and whatevers in regard to this process, such that it seems Kerry is just twisting the fork and twisting it and twisting it and...I'm sure they're all getting a big laugh out of this, more evidence to me that Kerry's a very sick person. As is anyone who'd work for the sick guy.
