Wafa al-Biss, the would-be suicide bomber asked reporters: "Do you think they'll forgive me?"
SHIKMA PRISON, Israel -- A badly burned Palestinian woman was alternately defiant and tearful Monday after Israeli soldiers caught her trying to enter Israel with 22 pounds of explosives hidden on her body.In an unusual move, Israel's security service allowed reporters to interview al-Biss just hours after her arrests. "My dream was to be a martyr," she said. "I believe in death."The woman, who suffered serious burns on her hands, feet and neck in a kitchen explosion five months ago, had been granted permission to cross into Israel from the Gaza Strip for medical treatment when she raised the suspicion of soldiers at the Erez checkpoint.
Video released by the military showed 21-year-old Wafa al-Biss taking off articles of clothing on the orders of soldiers searching for explosives, and rubbing her disfigured neck with her burned hands and screaming.
The military said she tried to blow up the explosives Monday but failed and was not injured.
She denied that her burns and disfigurement (which dampened her prospects for marriage) played a part in her decision to accept the suicide mission. "Don't think that because of how I look I wanted to carry out an attack. ... Since I was a little girl I wanted to carry out an attack."
After an hour of interviews her story got more convoluted and confused. She changed her story often, and eventually declared that someone else had planted explosives in her underwear without her knowledge. "I did not intend to carry out an attack," she said.
As the interviews wound down and the seriousness of her situation became clear, she is reported to have told reporters, "I didn't kill anyone. Do you think they will forgive me? I hope they show me mercy. I didn't kill anyone."

Robot had to go blow the bomb up. Hope it wasn't hurt. Don't quite feel the same for the bomber.

Yes, let's give these people a state.
And let's close Gitmo and send them there, too.
all hold hands now and sing Kum-by-a!

She went in only after Al Aqsa Brigades said her children were too young. This was hardly the case of burns making her a suicide bomber.

Excuse me? I can't believe that no one has picked up on her comment:

I don't know about you - but do you think for a second someone might notice 22 lbs. of explosives being put in their underwear?
Another genious. Don't worry - the vast majority of the Palestineans believe suicide bombings are the way to go. Why the UN gives them "observer" status is a mystery. They don't even deserve "observer" status to humanity.

Maybe it's a new Palestinian party game: Find the explosives!

As kind and friendly as I usually am, I wonder what sense it makes to remove the explosives from her and then detonate them somewhere safely. If she wants to be a martyr, let her - just let her be a failed one who only takes herself.

This woman sounds like she has genuine psychological problems. This raises the question of how many of the suicide bombers are mentally ill.
So is this whole Jihad thing just a cover up for a massive Muslem eugenics program?

This is a suprise....usually these animals have a back up "man" to detonate the bomb via remote control if the bomber gets caught/chickens out.
As for this fucking sow.....yes, they will show you mercy because Israel rolls like that. But it's too fucking good for you. If I was in charge, I'd put you back in the suicide vest and detonate you right in the middle of a Hamas daycare center...

I had to dig for this story. Despite my supprt for Palestinian statehood, they are loosong my sympathies because of thier lack of of a vocal peace movement. This incident is another unfortunate example of the power of the radical indoctrination of children. A hospital ward full of warm, caring healers was not enough to offset Wafa al-Biss' childhood exposure to radical teachings. We don't need anti-war, pacifist, or anti-Bush protests in the west, we need peace protests in the Palestinian territories, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, and Syria -
Perhaps along the lines of "teach peace, and the Muslim world will thrive - continue to teach hatred and vengeance, and expect to be mired in violence and chaos"
But, sadly, Arab people won't dare organize a such a bold protest movement for fear of their lives. I hope an upswell of true courage and clarity in the Arab world will spawn this needed movement.
