Weight gain like this is usually a good sign that the person has begun dealing with their personal problems and just might be on the road to recovery. Yes it is bad news for those who sit on the toilet staring at pictures, but this is good news for Courtney. I hope she does well and wish her the best. Her issues aren't as easy to resolve as are those who merely need to go to the bookstore and buy a new magazine.

Although from what I've read her struggle could probably be described more as "ambivalent" rather than "monumental", my prayer for her is that she would, in fact, free herself from her addictions.
Having said that, though, what other posters in this thread have noted is that Ms. Love has always had a fat mouth and an even fatter ego whose lifestyle and attitudes have caught up with her physically. In fact, I think it's a wee bit ironic that she now looks like what she has always disdained, that is, a plump, middle-aged matron.
And I think that her fat mouth and fat ego are her real problems, not, ultimately, the drugs. If she doesn't succeed in keeping them in check, they will merely find another outlet for expression, and these pathetic little countroom scenes will be repeated.

OregonMuse has spoken. I think it's interesting that the comments say more about the commentor, rather than Courtney Love.
I realize celebrity is a double-edged sword and that the attention given to stars is by nature quite shallow, so it's not much of a surprize when they find themselves in real-life crises the attention remains shallow.
All I really care about is that she has a young daughter, and that is where my true empathy lies. Not with the suicidal father or the drug-addicted mother, but at least Love is making the attempt to change her life.
