Crockspot at Conservative Underground was the one who first used a little Google-fu to debunk this guy's con job. The San Francisco Chronicle has fallen for this guy's act on more than one occasion, which should hardly come as a surprise.
Shock & Blog has more links to the Google evidence against Eddy.
Update: In case you're wondering Jeb Eddy is not a fake identity. See the photo (first picture in the third row) on this page for proof.
Update 2: Vlae Kershner, news director for the San Francisco Chronicle web site, responds to a reader inquiry about the Eddy's identification, "Thanks for writing. It's an Associated Press photo. I removed it from the two articles where I could find it on the website.. No word on wether a correction will be issued for this February 24, 2005 article. The other suposed Republican in that article, Margaret Garvin, she's a Democratic plant too...

Giving the reaching-for-straws critics the benefit of a doubt that his actual registration is unknown and could possibly be GOP, if you vote Democrat and donate to Democrats and work for Democrats to get elected, but retain a GOP voter registration, you are not Republican.
I know several people who openly admit registering for the opposite party in order to vote in their primaries for the weakest candidate.
This tactic of falsely claiming to be a disillusioned Republican is getting to be quite common. During the recent protests, the media picked out one woman who claimed to be a former pro-war Republican and first-time protestor but a quick check showed her to be a longtime Dem and a protestor with at least a thirty year history. Same situation, and I apologize for forgetting the details, in either the Swiftboat critics or one of the Killian document supporters. Newpaper article said they were a former Bush supporter, but a bit of research showed they were the head of a leftwing group for years.
Is it any wonder that the first reaction of many upon reading one of these 'converts' stories is to research the person and check the validity of the claim?

Steve,
He was the executive director of a very liberal foundation before 1998. His wife is the current director.
The purposes of the Compton Foundation are "peace, environment and population".
Not too hard to figure out what he's all about.
Clinton's impeachment probably just pissed him off enough to push him over the edge.
Now he's just another moonbat caught lying.
Albeit, a moobat with access to millions of dollars to further his cause. This guy needs to be stopped.

I think we're all assuming we know what this "GOP" Mr. Ed(dy) is ashamed of, and why he might be ashamed. What if GOP in his mind really meant "Giggling Of Pacifists"? Or maybe he knew he would be out google-fu'ed, and it really stands for "Google Outing Paranoia". Of course, that amount of irony would be lost on the MSM (which might not, incidentally mean "Main Stream Media", it could mean "Moonbats Seen More").
Perhaps cousin Olie could clue us in on what the definition of a republican or democrat is. Is it defined by your registration card, or where your money goes? Or does it depend on which way will tweak the other side?

In reality, I am a political independent w/ Republican / conservative leanings on some issues, and voted for W, Reagan, Giuliani etc.
I should probably change my registration, b/c it is embarrassing to be even associated with the Democratic party of leftist lunatics and special interests.

Meanwhile, this sign also calls into a question I've oft wondered...if one has never contributed to a political campaign or never voted, how does one determine whether one is a Democrat or a Republican? What if one is socially liberal and fiscally conservative? Democrat or Republican? What about the person who contributed to a Democratic Senator's campaign in one state and a Republican Senator's campaign in another?

Sadly, I've heard it is a common voter fraud trick too. MD, for example, allows a republican and a democrat judge at each poll - they make decisions about who gets to vote or not. They aren't law judges, but are appointed by each county (I suppose, see your county's website for more information). They are in charge of requesting and managing the poll workers. In the 2004 election, people who had signed up as republican volunteers were told they weren't needed - MD had enough. The problem, apparently, is that liberals have registered as Republicans, been assigned to manage the polls, and have recruited in liberals to be Republican poll workers.

I have noted that there are Republicans who register as Dems just to fend off the most noxious candidates at the primary level, thinking that moonbats only occur in the Democratic Party. Then they vote as they wish in the general election.
