Thank you Debra Burlingame, and everyone else at Take Back The Memorial who worked so hard to keep the focus of the memorials at ground zero on the victims of 9/11.
NEW YORK (AP) - Bowing to pressure from furious Sept. 11 families, Gov. George Pataki on Wednesday removed a proposed freedom museum from the space reserved for it at ground zero, saying the project had aroused "too much opposition, too much controversy."All it was ever about for the IFC crew was ramming their world view down the throats of unsuspecting ground zero visitors. If they're not front and center they're not interested....The decision followed months of acrimony over the International Freedom Center, with Sept. 11 families and politicians saying that the museum would overshadow and take space from a separate memorial devoted to the 2,749 World Trade Center dead and would dishonor them by fostering debate about the attacks and other world events.
"Freedom should unify us. This center has not," Pataki said. "Today there remains too much opposition, too much controversy over the programming of the IFC. ... We must move forward with our first priority, the creation of an inspiring memorial to pay tribute to our lost loved ones and tell their stories to the world."
Pataki said the Freedom Center cannot be part of a cultural building located near the proposed trade center memorial. But he left open the possibility that the center could find a home elsewhere on the 16-acre site.
Freedom Center officials, however, said in a statement that they do not believe there is a viable alternative location at the trade center site
If the IFC was in such demand they'd be looking to build it somewhere else. They're not...

The left's strategy is often to hijack moral authority they have no right to. Do you think gays really want to join in holy matrimony or be good Boy Scouts? Not really, it's more about arrogating the stature of these institutions -- stature that had been earned by others over generations. Same with the IFC, which wanted to advocate its multiculturalist agenda from the moral high ground of Ground Zero without the price paid by the victims who hallowed that place.

Hallelujah! I feared the public antagonism would have gone for naught. Democracy in action - what a pleasant surprise. G. Soros, M. Posner, A. Romero, and company get kicked to the curb... again.
Debra Burlingame and Take Back The Memorial should erect their own plaque as a tribute to their diligence (a public service) and to document further the concerted disingenuous efforts by those who really did not want to memorialize America's loss but did want to further a self-flagellating sideshow. Clearly, the IFC would not stand on its own and hijacking the WTC rebuild was the only way such a debacle would attract traffic or glance. Now, they will get neither. Hurrah!

I can't help but compare Debra Burlingame and Cindy Sheehan in the manner in which they have supported their lost family members.
One has immersed herself in the quiet work of fighting an injustice to all those murdered in New York, the Pentagon, and Pennsylvania.
The other has aligned herself with people of the same ideology that Debra Burlingame is fighting against.
Cindy Sheehan is a puppet of the left and is making a fool of herself and dishonoring her son and all the other heroes in our military who fight for our freedoms while Debra Burlingame is honoring all those who were murdered.
What a contrast.

Thank goodness that common sense has prevailed! Now, let's make sure they don't ruin the flight 93 memorial as well.
The AP won't report the negative facts about the IFC because that would prevent them from screaming about 'neocon censorship' in the near future! ha ha ha

AND OTHER INFORMATION OUTLETS (NYT OR CBS NEWS, ANYONE?), BUT I WOULD NEVER DREAM THAT YOU FOLKS WOULD BE VIRTUALLY HIGH-FIVING EACH OTHER ON THIS BLOG AFTER LITERALLY STOMPING OUT FREEDOM.
FREEDOM DIED YESTERDAY - IT WAS MERCILESSLY BLUDGEONED INTO OBLIVION BY THAT SWISHY BLUNT OBJECT, PATAKI. IT SEEMS DOUBLY CRUEL AND IRONIC THAT THIS ASSASINATION OF FREEDOM HAS OCCURED EXACTLY AT 9/11'S GROUND ZERO.
FOR SHAME.

I don't get over here that often, but is O.B.'s diatribe typical of the reaction from the left you get? My, my, my, I'm impressed. That someone could wedge so much hyperbole, so many straw men and non sequiturs, all into such a short post, apparently without even stopping to breathe, is truly... well, the mind boggles.
As an aside to Ollie, you might want to try switching to decaf. Some of it's quite good these days.

SO IT IS ONLY THE RELATIVES OF THOSE WHO PERISHED IN THE ACCIDENT AT THE WTC ON 9/11 WHO'S OPINIONS MATTER? DID GORGEOUS GEORGE PATAKI ASK MOHAMMED ATTA'S DAD IF HE WANTED THE IFC ON THAT SITE? DON'T BOTHER REPLYING. I ALREADY KNOW THE RACIST ANSWER. WHAT DISAPPOINTS ME THE MOST THOUGH IS MRS. CLINTON'S CAVING IN TO RIGHT-WING PRESSURE AND TAKING THE COWARD'S WAY OUT ON THIS ISSUE. WAS SHE BRIBED, DRUGGED, BRAINWASHED? LIKE IN THAT DOCUMENTARY FILM FROM THE SEVENTIES - A CLOCKWORK ORANGE?
AFTER THIS IFC QUAGMIRE, MY CONSCIENCE, SADLY WILL NOT PERMIT ME TO VOTE FOR SENATOR CLINTON. I SURE HOPE DENNIS KUCINICH RUNS AGAIN IN '08. IF NOT, I AND TENS OF MILLIONS OF INTELLIGENT PROGRESSIVES WILL BE FORCED TO FIND REFUGE IN CANADA. FOR REAL THIS TIME, I'M NOT JOKING AROUND.
