Irony is Lost on the Dumb - Issue 65536

Quick, someone head to dictionary.com and email Hillary the meaning of the word irony.

Democrats blast Cheney secrecy after shooting

Democrats in Congress accused Vice President Dick Cheney of a pattern of secrecy, and demanded that he "level" with the public, after keeping mum about accidentally shooting an associate over the weekend.

Cheney has been criticized for waiting a day before disclosing a hunting mishap Saturday in which he shot his 78-year-old hunting companion, Harry Whittington, in the neck, chest, and face.

Asked at a press conference for her reaction about how the White House has handled the incident, US Senator Hillary Clinton called the Bush administration's failure to be more forthcoming "troubling."

"A tendency of this administration -- from the top all the way to the bottom -- is to withhold information ... to refuse to be forthcoming about information that is of significance and relevance to the jobs that all of you do, and the interests of the American people," Clinton said.

So Hillary C-L-I-N-T-O-N wants to complain about an administration keeping secrets? Do the words "billing records" ring a bell, Hillary? And as I recall there was another big secret during the Clinton administration something about an intern or something... I forget.

I understand the game they are playing, they want to keep Cheney's problem on the front page and use it to smear Bush. -- But can't they come up with talking points that are not so intellectually insulting? Hillary whining about an administation keeping secrects is just insulting to anyone with a brain.

UPDATE Apparently 'ol Teddy Kennedy is blind to irony as well.

Oh, FTLOG:

First, I don't think you can pin the Lewinsky "secret" on Hillary.

Second, you can't really be comparing Bill Clinton's record of honesty with the Bush administration's! Oh, I almost forgot "We're in a war on TERROR, man!" That gives the keystone cops in the White House the power to do anything they damn well please without telling anyone. I think the idiot has forgotten that there are 2 other, EQUAL branches of our government. Well, there's supposed to be anyway. Who knows, he may have secretly abolished them. After all, "We're in a war on TERROR, man!"

Third, you seriously don't see the surrealism of the Vice Presiden to the United States shooting someone??

Now folks, I'm sure if you asked Hillary, she would happily explain to you the difference between the two administrations. It would probably go something like, "Hey, we were just covering our tracks. The Bush adminstration is being arrogant."

What's worse: covering up criminal activity, or being arrogant? As long as you're humble (and a Democrat), everything is forgivable.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that privately hunting with your buddies, and having an accident, had any relevance to the job of the vice presidency.

That enemies list? Sorry, still a fabrication. But hey, why get facts in the way of your assertions, right?

Ask Edward Klein, who took the final nail regarding the "enemies list" with his birdcage liner "The Truth About Hillary":

FRANKEN: And later, in a Salon interview, you said, "Like Nixon, Hillary has used FBI files against her enemies."

KLEIN: Mm-hmm [affirmative].

FRANKEN: Now, you know that she was absolved of this by the Office of Independent Counsel.

KLEIN: Well, she may --

FRANKEN: I mean, shouldn't you have written about that? Shouldn't you have given that information to your readers?

KLEIN: It's still my -- it's still my belief and contention that Craig Livingstone was responsible for taking those files, and that he was operating under direct orders from Hillary.

CONASON: Do you know whose files those were? I mean, did you ever look at the names of the people whose files they were?

KLEIN: They were a lot of Republican activists --

CONASON: There were not, actually. They were not. Can -- name one Republican activist whose file was taken. One.

KLEIN: I couldn't do that 'cause I --

CONASON: You couldn't! 'Cause you haven't looked at the names! Did you ever look at the names?

KLEIN: No, I haven't.

Hillary had an excellent opportunity to contrast her strong points with Republican weaknesses and blew it. Her statement should have read: "They shoot a lawyer, but he's not dead. There is no statute of limitations for murder or manslaughter.
If any wingnut wants to demsonstrate they have any cajones, then they're welcome to prosecute Kennedy. In return, the same rules will have to apply to Laura Bush.

I'll never forget on the David Letterman show when Dave asked what was the first thing President elect Bush would do when he got into the oval office and W said, "I'm going to give it a good scrubbing."

He probably meant that literally, too. Would you have sat in that chair at that desk without steam cleaning it first?

But in all seriousness, I feel like I never get enough detail out of this administration. Things like social security reform, the environment, and wars deserve more than a slogan to explain them. Probably, the Clinton administration was the same and I'm just too young to remember it. And I think the press is mostly to blame because unless the adminstration packs everything up into a nice slogan and prints it 50 times behind him on the wall while he's speaking the media will mangle the message into whatever suits their goals. Tax cuts are a perfect example. It's a complex issue how to cut taxes in a way that leads to more investment by the rich and not more luxury by the rich. But instead of an explanation of how these decisions are made we get, "the people spend their money better than the government." A good principle but one that could be elaborated upon.

People have accidents. It is reporting them to the POLICE in a timely matter that is important - not to your lawyer, and certainly not to the white house press corps.

Robfilomen:

Equating the level of honesty and secret keeping of the Clintons with that of the Bush Administration is hardly a coherent thought at all. Alluding to Lewinsky in the context of Hillary keeping secrets is just plain irrelevant.

I think the whole ridiculous backlash of this unfortunate accident is a symptom or "secrecy fatigue". The WH press corps, the MSM and the general public have spent the past 5 years being lied to, stonewalled, and slapped with words like "executive privelage", during a period in history where transparency and integrity were needed more than ever. Now the above mentioned parties start off from a suspicious point of view and assume that there is something being hidden as a matter of course, even is such an obviously cut-and-dry situation as the Cheney accidental shooting.

Cro, Cro, Cro....if you'd pull your head out of the sand for a moment, you might realize just what a jerk-wad George is. I, also, am ashamed he's from Texas and I'll scream that from the hills.

His bullying tactics have disgraced this country. He's like a spoiled kid who makes up the rules of the game just because he has the ball. He cries "war on terror" whenever anyone dares question what the hell he's doing; his administration leaks CIA operatives names; he claims executive privilege whenever he can't lie his way out of a situation; he lies to American citizens by saying that the government can wiretap people only with a warrant; he lets the real culprit behind 9/11 roam free because it doesn't suit his agenda; he lies by knowingly using a forged document as an excuse to start a war, when it was really all about "he tried to kill my Daddy!" Oh, and he claims to be a man of God. Yeah, right!

What has he done right? He grabbed a bullhorn one day in 2001 and swore to avenge the biggest tragedy in our history. Unfortunately, it's been downhill ever since. AND he hasn't even accomplished that!

I never thought it could happen, but you now have a President who actually makes Bill Clinton seem like the posterchild for "family values".
