CBS News is reporting that al Qaeda in Iraq is planning a big scale attack in Iraq:
(CBS/AP) U.S. officials tell CBS News that intelligence has picked up reports that al Qaeda in Iraq is planning what one source calls the "Big Bang," a spectacular terrorist attack in Iraq against either a single high-profile target or multiple targets simultaneously.
Last week's mosque bombing in city of Samarra that brought Iraq to the brink of civil war was the work of terrorists, some U.S. officials have theorized. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi seems to be betting that another big bang would push the country over the brink, reports CBS News correspondent David Martin. The bomb in one of the holiest sites for Shiite Muslims set off violence all across the country that left hundreds dead
Expect the media to push more of the "civil war" in Iraq mantra.

In other news, the Sunnis are trying to form a coalition with the Kurds to oust the Shiite PM Ibrahim al-Jaafari. Civil War ??? Looks like the groups are learning to play the parliament game already. Plus, the Sunnis seem to have realized that they may not be dominated by the shiites after all, the two minorities can still beat up on the majority. None of this matters though, there iss a civil war.

Oh, I know, I know! They're going to nail copies of the Mohammed cartoons on the doors of every mosque in Iraq, on the same night, under the cover of darkness! The whole country will erupt in ferocious anger, and in the blindness of their rage they will burn their own mosques down. That will, of course, make them more ticked off, so they'll blame Israel for it.
It's genius, I tell you.

They weren't accomplishing enough targeting US, so now they're attacking their own people; does it not occur to them that this will tend to reduce the overall support they have in the Arab world?
(I'm grateful that evil is at its base stupid.)

Hmm, how many times has AQ in Iraq (and AQ, in general) threatened a big bang and not delivered? Once? Twice? 12, 20, 30 times? What's the matter? Not enough martyrs? Need to recruit through CBS? No problem, they're more than willing to help.
Why can't CBS just say "How many innocent people will AQ in Iraq target and attempt to kill in mosques (those holy of holy places where our military was forbidden to enter) in hopes of inciting a civil war which would really boost our ratings? Oh, and by the way, they targeted not a single one of our troops because they knew they'd get their asses kicked?"
Am I really asking too much? I know, I know. I should know the answer to all this by now.
