Lorie Byrd is Leaving Polipundit

In the wake of President Bush's speech last night, Lorie Byrd announced that she is leaving Polipundit as a result of editorial changes made by Polipundit:

The fact is that I believe this is the last time I will be blogging at Polipundit.

I received a lengthy email from Polipundit tonight alerting us to an editorial policy change that included the following: "From now on, every blogger at PoliPundit.com will either agree with me completely on the immigration issue, or not blog at PoliPundit.com." I would provide additional context, but Polipundit has asked that the contents of our emails not be disclosed publicly and I think that is a fair request. There has been plenty written in the posts over the past week alone to let readers figure out what happened. Polipundit ended a later email with this: "It's over. The group-blogging experiment was nice while it lasted, but we have different priorities now. It's time to go our own separate ways."

Polipundit has been one of my favorite blogs from the time I started reading blogs in 2004.

Lorie will still blog at her own site Byrd Droppings, so check it out.

John Podhoretz, from his new book on Hilarity!:

"Occasionally in politics, a small but influential caucus of idealists decides that what its party really needs is a Purification Ritual. To stress the importance of ideological purity, the caucus will stage a protest candidacy against a mainstream politician and the political party that chooses him, because the party and the politician have betrayed the caucus's highest ideals.

"The conservative movement that undergirds the Republican Party is especially fond of threatening the GOP with a Purification Ritual on every matter under the sun. Even Ronald Reagan's presidency wasn't good enough for many conservatives, who continually declared themselves good and ready to form a third party whose sole purpose would be to divide the GOP-to injure the party and prevent its candidates from winning elections. This was, presumably, a form of tough love, an effort to force change on a recalcitrant party. Or at least that's what the Purifiers usually say. But in fact they are doing what insurgencies always do-engaging in destruction and calling it revolution.

No loss for DJ 'Felate Bush at all costs' Drummond over at Polipundit.
Now that DJ and his knee-jerk moronic defense of the indefensible is now gone, I might go back to Polipundit.

The Kool-Aid over there with some commenters as well is so bitter as to be unfit for Jamestown. Of course the calls of "censorship" are the height of hilarity. It appears a great deal of the readership were absolute morons and bushbots.

My bet was that most of them live in areas unaffected as of yet by illegals. Given the Senates vote today, I'm sure a nice throng of "guest workers" eating up all their low skilled jobs and depressing wages while refusing to assimilate and demanding rights that don't exist will change their tune. Of course by then it will be too late.

I actually had the odd experience of being called an "anti-immigrant nazi" by DJ Drummond.

Considering I'm a first generation immigrant from South Korea, so it's rather absurd.

It's nice to know that CongressBob has finally learned how to use the copy-and-paste function. Once he figures out how to release the CapsLock key, he'll be ready for posting like adults.

Quite simply, every discussion on immigration was getting threadjacked by the "Eat sh!t-Fark you" crowd. Then, after the POTUS speech, Alex busted out with his "LIAR" article, just after Poli shredded the same speech, and it was off to the races.

Poli decided to call a time out on all parties, as is his right - it's his site, he's paying to push the pixels. I think the situation could have been salvaged had all parties taken advantage of the Poli-requested "time out" to step away and cool down. IIRC, Kevin has done that a time or two here. Instead, Lorie took it public, and Alex followed on in the commentary.

It is instructive that, in her benediction post, Lorie busts out with "I would provide additional context, but Polipundit has asked that the contents of our emails not be disclosed publicly and I think that is a fair request" in the sentence immediately after disclosing publicly the contents of one of the emails, and quite possibly out of the true context of the nature of the emails.

Poli is wrong for insisting that "every blogger at PoliPundit.com will either agree with me completely on the immigration issue, or not blog at PoliPundit.com," but it is his right to be wrong. I probably would have suggested an embargo on posts on immigration for all parties, but I'm not Poli, it's not my blog.

Everyone seems to be lauding the Brave Lori Byrd and the Valiant Alexander McClure, but Lori and Alex are behaving like spoiled children in desperate need of a session with a switch.

The whole was greater than the sum of the parts.

The Bard said it best:
See, what a scourge is laid upon your hate,
That heaven finds means to kill your joys with love.
And I for winking at your discords too
Have lost a brace of kinsmen:
All are punish'd.

Dude, they are bloggers. Humans. Sweat, blood, bad breath, feet of clay. And they disagreed with Poli, they took their disagreement too public, and got gonged for it.
