Now the Iraqi government knows they were lied to by the US leadership over our troops complicity in the massacre they are launching their own investigation.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The Iraqi government decided Thursday to launch its own investigation into reports that U.S. Marines killed unarmed civilians last year, and the top U.S. general in Iraq ordered American commanders to conduct ethical training on battlefield conduct.

The decision to begin an Iraqi inquiry into the killings was made at a Cabinet meeting, Adnan al-Kazimi, an adviser to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, told The Associated Press.

The investigation will be carried out by a special committee made up of the Justice and Human Rights ministries along with security officials, al-Kazimi said.

The U.S. military already is conducting at least two investigations into the Nov. 19 killings of 24 people in Haditha, including women and children, following a bomb attack on a military convoy in which a Marine died.

Military investigators have evidence that points toward unprovoked murders by Marines in Haditha, a senior defense official said last week.

A U.S. military investigation will conclude that some officers gave false testimony to their superiors, who then failed to scrutinize the reports adequately, The Washington Post reported.

When you have leaders in the White House who lie, who is surprised that we'd have military leaders who won't hesitate to be liars as well? Apparently the military "superiors" chose to cherry-pick their intelligence on this issue, a trick they learned from their Republican commander-in-chief.

Lee is projecting the dishonesty of the liberal left onto the US military. The left is predictable. It will take every opportunity to smear the military and the US. They are still silent today about the atrocities of the communists (with a "good" help from the left) during the cold war.

I am compelled to tell the truth about the dishonesty and hypocrisy of the left. I hope that you won't fall for the despicable but predictable behavior of the left.
(1) The first instinct of the left is to attribute the worst to our military (they don't even care about waiting for the investigation to be completed etc...). On the other hand, the left always tries to give the benefit of the doubt to the enemies of America, even the terrorists (eg. Howard Dean and Osama Bin Laden).

(2) You cavalierly impugn the military when they initiated the investigation themselves and even use Drone pictures to aid in the investigation. The liberal press has not even been doing its job. It simply generates half-truths, distortions, and even outright lies (which have been documented).

(3) I am new to Wizbang, but your posting reminds me again of the behaviour of the liberal left, that sought to smear the US military and betrayed the oppressed people in Indochina.

First, the left will use every tool at their disposal to ensure that the Haditha incident becomes synonymous with the entire Iraq war. Abu Ghraib proved a propaganda bonanza for the terrorists and nations such as Iran, Syria and Saudi Arabia that want us to withdraw from Iraq in defeat. Haditha - regardless of what the facts may turn out to be - will be used ceaselessly and purposefully to eliminate American support for the Iraq war and to demonize anyone who still supports it. Haditha will become the Orwellian centerpiece of the Democrats' claim that they support the troops. "They've been there too long," Murtha and his ilk will cry. "We have to bring them home before they kill more babies." And then the Dems, feigning concern for our soldiers, will offer them psychological counseling when they return. The political fallout will be enormous, and it will damage both the ongoing war efforts and our troops' morale.

Perhaps the involved Marines lied about what occurred not because of a consciousness of guilt, but rather, because of a consciousness of reality. The reality of which I speak is the unpopular nature of this war at home, the resulting diminished standing by the President who took the country to war, and the recognition by the soldiers that they would not be given the benefit of the doubt by the domestic media who would report on that which occurred.

I'm not smearing anything or anyone. I just quoted the facts - that the military has been caught lying.

That 's smearing, Lee. We don't smear the military with bad apples like Kerry and Murtha for example. Some officers are not the entire military. And the military initiated the investigation on its own. The liberal press couldn't even do that. This is the same smearing tactic that the communist and its allies in the left has been using during the cold war. This is what I call the "perfection fallacy". Since America is not perfect, it will make mistakes. The dishonesty of the left is that it used these mistakes to smear America, the best overall country on earth right now.

Good point. That 's why I don't understand why the people on the left can be so blinded by the morally corrupt liberalism. Treating your own country as well as you would treat the enemies is not too much to ask in my opinion, esp when the enemies despise what you claim to care about.

I guess your definition of patriotism is this: assume the worst about your country while giving the benefit of the doubt to its enemies. is this blind allegiance to a corrupt ideology?
