The Feds are saying that Rep. Jefferson tried to hide documents while the FBI was searching his home:
The Justice Department yesterday vigorously defended the recent weekend raid of Rep. William J. Jefferson's Capitol Hill office as part of a bribery investigation, asserting that the Democratic lawmaker attempted to hide documents from FBI agents while they were searching his New Orleans home last August.
The government questioned in a 34-page motion filed in U.S. District Court here whether it could have obtained all the materials it had sought in a subpoena if it had not launched the surprise raid on Jefferson's congressional office May 20. According to the government filing, an FBI agent caught Jefferson slipping documents into a blue bag in the living room of his New Orleans home during a search."It is my belief that when Congressman Jefferson placed documents into the blue bag, he was attempting to conceal documents that were relevant to the investigation," FBI agent Stacey E. Kent of New Orleans stated in an affidavit that was part of the government's court submission. The document was filed in response to Jefferson's lawsuit demanding that the government return to him documents seized during the raid on his Capitol Hill office 11 days ago.
Goodness, could this guy have behaved any more suspiciously?

Reminds me of the scene from Monty Python where the sweet prince was going to send an arrow message calling for rescue. Of course only the guards employed by Dad would not notice what was going on.
Maybe instead of "culture of corruption" we can put Jeffords and Berger together for the "culture of hiding things that you aren't supposed to".

Congress wants oversite over everone elses business but wants no oversite of itself. Even when a judge gives a warrant and the executive branch enforces it.
I expect this from Democrats who are above the law. But Repblicans are soiling themselves by jumping on the "we're above the law" bandwagon.

Old Dollar Bill doesn't have an ounce of integrity otherwise he'd resign immediately.
He's just another crooked, corrupt, criminal, lying, asshole politician with his hands on YOUR wallet. Then again, the good people of NOLA voted for him, so they get what they deserve.

Au contraire. He's a bought congressman, and he owes it to his buyer to stay in office.

As an aside, isn't it interesting to see what finally get congress talking about impeachment of judges? The supremacists can engage in the most outrageous imaginable repression of American citizens and congress turns a deaf ear; but see what happens when a judge goes after one of their own. Our representatives have abandoned us.
