Immigration Raid At Dulles Airport Nets Illegal Aliens In Secure Areas

WTOP's Neal Augentstein reports that a immigration raid at Washington's Dulles airport turned up illegal aliens with access to the tarmac and secure areas of the airport, and in one case an alien with a security badge. Dulles International Airport was the point of organ of American Airlines Flight 77 that was flown into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.

DULLES, Va. (WTOP) -- An immigration raid at Dulles International Airport resulted in 55 arrests on Wednesday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement says.

The people were doing contract work at a construction site, inside a secure area, where they would potentially have access to runways and airplanes.

...The agency says one of the workers had an airport security badge, that grants unescorted access to the airport tarmac.

ICE says allowing unauthorized workers into sensitive sites puts the nation's infrastructure at risk.

The airport has been undergoing extensive renovation of its infield terminal areas over the past several years, with an underground passenger transport and rail system being built to replace the 'people mover' buses between the main terminal and the two infield terminals.

Update: I'm not sure if it's related, but according to the AP U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have arrested nearly 2,100 illegal immigrants across the country in recent weeks. Operation Return to Sender is targeting child molesters, gang members and other violent criminals, as well as illegal aliens who have previously been deported.

I read this and my first thought is, well, I hope there is more of this scrutiny of workers associated with secure locations. My second thought was, OK, now under the President's intentions (bureaucratic paprwork), how much would it take for these folks to be converted to "guest worker" status and still be working in secure areas.

Obviously, if they had more ducks at the airport, they would eat the aliens - problem solved.
We pointed out, last week, how Bush's global warming is driving ducks to new food sources, such as aliens. Hence the increasing rarity of intergalactic aliens around town these days, and the abundance of fat ducks. But the ducks need to eat all of the aliens.

I feel America still has very poor security to deal with all the illegal Aliens which can enter. See the Mexico border. Such things also make it easy for terrorists to attack.
Something needs to be done to stop all this.

I told you people this months ago, but noone wants to hear it. Illegals don't just do day labor. They're in every corner of the workforce, and they're making the same wages. It seems like everytime I say it, everyone just turns their head, refuses to believe it, and talks about day labor. You'd probably be shocked at how many work for State and Federal government. If you think that's an impossibility then next time you're driving down the interstate and come to a work zone with maintaince being done, take a good look at who's doing it.

Cool. I get hauled into back rooms when I forget to take my lighter out of my suitcase and throw it away before flying. The security thugs are jerks, to me and everyone else in line. I'm carrying a suitcase, a backpack, trying to pull out my laptop with one hand and showing my boarding pass to the 7-11 clerk in the TSA shirt with my other hand while he growls at me because I'm too slow to suit him.

But the illegals are sitting on the runway, grinning.

I can't get terribly detailed, due to still in force non-disclosures ... but in a previous job, I had occasion to transact business with a gentleman who resided in the DC area. As part of our normal workflow, all client names and pertinent info were checked against the Office of Foreign Asset Control lists, aka the terrorist watch list. This particular gentleman had a rather ... odd name. I can't tell you the exact name, but the first and last name were the same, and it was something along the lines of "Mahmoud Mahmoud". The OFAC list check returned a possible hit. That was later cleared and he was OK'd to continue to do business.

Oh ... and his occupation ... he's a baggage handler at Dulles Int'l Airport.

Nice.
