Connie Chung Has Lost Her Mind

There are no words to describe the farewell spectacle Connie Chung treated the tens of viewers of her canceled MSNBC show 'Weekends with Maury and Connie' last weekend. Fortunately the debacle put on YouTube by the folks at Gawker.

Connie Chung must have the least amount of self-awareness of any broad on TV. Considering how self-obsessed TV journos are, that's truly horrifying, isn't it?

Did she not have any idea how that might look? The pianist isn't even playing 9/10th's of the time, because Connie's not having any of that 'accompaniment' thing! I can't decide which moment is funnier -- Connie flopping off the piano like a tuna or the part where she lays back and kicks her feet in the air!

A woman 'of a certain age' should never, ever allow herself to appear so undignified. There must be an amazing back-story on just why she chose this spectacular a melt-down as her *likely* TV send-off.

Notice there was no sound from the piano. Perhaps they turned of the piano mic, or maybe the pianist wasn't really pressing the keys. In any case, he managed a forced teeth-clinched grin for what was probably the most embarrassing and humiliating experience of his performing career.

She has always had a quirky sense of humor, and she was always open about that. She even took some flak over her "lack of seriousness" back when she was teamed up with ole Danny Boy.

And Maury has always had a wise ass streak, so it all makes sense to me.

Yes, it was odd and over the top, but I say good for her and Maury.

I watched a few bits-n-pieces of Maury & Connie, and their liberal bias was just WAAAAY too evident for me to stick around. But they are at least somewhat entertaining, and you know what? If I had a show on cable TV and got cancelled, it might be kinda fun to go out with a "bang" like she did. Sort of a big "F.U." to the corporate folks who pulled the plug, maybe?

Connie Replies:

"All I want to be sure of is that viewers understood it was a giant self-parody," Chung told The Associated Press Tuesday. "If anyone took it seriously, they really need to get a life."

And AP reports:

Connie Chung's Serenade a Hit on the Web
Wednesday June 21 8:05 AM ET

Alongside viral videos of alcohol-drinking monkeys and balletic race cars, the newest Web sensation is a crooning Connie Chung.

On the Saturday finale of MSNBC's "Weekends with Maury & Connie," Chung sang a version of Bob Hope's old theme song "Thanks for the Memory" to her husband and co-host, Maury Povich. A clip of the performance complete with mood-setting candles and an accompanying grand piano is the most popular clip of the week on the video Web site YouTube.

As of Tuesday afternoon, more than 413,000 people had viewed the video of Chung a rating that might have saved "Weekends with Maury & Connie," from being canceled. The half-hour talk show, which featured the two discussing news events, averaged about 232,000 viewers since debuting Jan. 7.

A rating that might have saved "Weekends with Maury & Connie," from being canceled...

Congratulations, you guys have help make her a star.

Heh.

My only fear is she will become so popular as a result of this that she will seek the Democratic nomination for President (squeezing past Hillary by a comfortable 22 percent margin), and that she will accept.

pssst, this was predictable.
