Isn't it kinda self-referentializing to quote bloggers on news?
From cnn:
Nasrallah said the two soldiers had been taken to a place "far, far away" and that an Israeli military campaign would not win their release.
Is "far, far away" ... um ... SYRIA perhaps?

Let's not forget that Hizbullah has been raining down rockets on Northern Israel as well. They've hit Safed (Tzvat) and nearby towns as well, injuring dozens of people, and killed one woman who was eating breakfast when a rocket slammed into her balcony.
Hizbullah thinks that warning Israel about attacking targets in and around Beirut by putting Haifa in its sights changes the calculus? Nope - it just means Israel will do all that it can to eliminate the threats posed to its northern towns and cities.
And where are all the complaints about collective punishment of Israelis by Islamic terrorists - after all, they're trying to inflict mass casualties on Israelis - sending them to the bomb bunkers, and otherwise trying their best to disrupt Israeli daily routines. Instead, we'll get the usual round of condemnations of Israeli action to defend itself by taking out targets that would assist the terrorists in their war against Israel.

When I see the rockets lobbed into Israel from Gaza and Lebanon, and abduction of Israeli military in Israel, then witness the "International Community/U.N." condemn Israel for exercising self-defense against the terrorists, it makes me wonder--are the Internationalists really indicating that they think Israel's right to exist is suspect, in their minds?

This is my take on that comment:
He was backhandedly swiping the American left for arrogantly presuming to continue to speak for Jewish causes when they've consistently equivocated pal-arab concerns to Israeli self-defense. I didn't read that as bossy-britchying the Jews.

My main point is that he tarred all Democrats and liberals (I'm one, not the other) with support Hezbollah and opposing Israel. While I have been critical of some Israeli policies before, I hate Hezbollah and fully agree with the Israeli response to what amount to acts of war by Lebanese through these kidnappings and rockets.
His other point is that any Jew who is "liberal-leaning" is a self-hating Jew. Since I assume ted himself is not Jewish, and considering I know many liberal Jews who are not self-hating, it seems to me that he has very little place telling them what to think, which in this context was very clearly what he was doing.
As far as what the "American Left" does, do not equate the "Free Palestine!", Che T-shirt wearing, naive college students with all of liberal thought. Our country overwhelmingly supports Israel, and that didn't start when Bush took office. Not to mention all of the Democrats in Congress (even some Jews! But they must be self-hating I guess) who consistently support Israel.

I hope I'm wrong about this.
Israel goes after Hamas for abducting soldier. Hezbollah (who is controlled by Iran) decides to do the same thing, prompting another Israeli response. Now they are trying to ship the soldier to Iran, which explains why the Beirut airport was bombed by Israel.
The West offered a sweet deal to Iran to give up their nuke ambitions. Iran said they would give an answer by August 22. That day is auspicious since it is the date when Mohammad ascended into heaven from Jerusalem. A day of struggle, lighting and thunder.
Ahmadinejad believes strongly in the Mahdi, which is more or less the Shiite messiah. He is to return to the Earth (along with Jesus) when Muslims are in the greatest danger, and usher in the Worldwide Islamic Caliphate. Jerusalem and Baghdad are supposed to be the centers of the conflict.
So....Iran is trying to start a regional war with Israel and the U.S. It is a win/win. Either they beat the U.S. and Israel (unlikely), or they lose badly and user in the Mahdi.
On August 23 the real shooting starts. Iran will attack Israel and Iraq. Maybe Syria will join in, probably not. The Sadrites in Iraq will join the side of Iran.
It will be a bloody mess.

I agree. I tend to believe that the hostages are now in Syria awaiting transfer to Iran.
I expect attacks on Syria by the weekend -- Israel has already attacked a terorist base near the Israeli border. Right now, Israel is giving Syria a short amount of time to pressure Hezbollah to release the soldiers. They're not going to give them very long.
If Hezbollah is dumb enough to air a video showing the kidnapped soldiers to be in Iran, then the current mini-war is going to turn into a major regional war very, very quickly.
