What the ACLU has Wrought

An Ohio man was arrested for sexually assaulting nine boys, all disabled. Call his defense ACLU inspired:

A suburban Cleveland man accused of sexually assaulting nine disabled boys told a judge Wednesday that his apartment was a religious sanctuary where smoking marijuana and having sex with children are sacred rituals protected by civil rights laws.

The admitted pedophile offered a surprising defense Wednesday to 74 charges of rape, drugs and pandering obscenity to minors.

Appearing in an Ohio court for a pretrial hearing, Phillip Distasio, 34, of Rocky River, Ohio, said he was a pedophile.

He told the judge, "I'm a pedophile. I've been a pedophile for 20 years. The only reason I'm charged with rape is that no one believes a child can consent to sex. The role of my ministry is to get these cases out of the courtrooms."

Distasio, a self-professed pagan friar, is representing himself on 74 charges. He said he's the leader of a church called Arcadian Fields Ministries, and that some of his congregants are among the victims in his case.

[snip]

Police said they found journals at Distasio's apartment in which he described his illegal activities, along with child pornography and videotapes of him engaged in sex with boys, The Plain Dealer reported

"Not all pedophilia is bad, and sex [with boys] can be healthy," Distasio told the court.

This guy needs to be in prison, in the general population at that, for the rest of his life. Sex with boys will have a whole new meaning for him.

Jay at Stop the ACLU is right on:

Since the ACLU has "fought" for NAMBLA, for thrice-convicted child rapists to prowl parks and live within a stone's throw from day care centers, for young girls to have an abortion without parental notice and have had its leadership on record as supporting the distribution of child pornography and dropping the age of consent to 12, what would be inconsistent here?

No, not this close to the election. Sure they will think it, but the conservative whores are too eager for votes to offend people openly these days.

WOW - you talk about gay-bashing - JimK and Lee hear "pedophile" and immediately think of gay men, as though they assume all gay men are pedophiles. WOW.

The one and only thing that crossed my mind when reading the article is that Distasio is a sicko who needs to be off the streets permanently.

Cazndy, you can try your damndest to turn it around, but my comment was about those who ALWAYS, in every discussion about either subject, try to link the two.

Play cute with snarky comments all day if it pleases you, but we both know what I'm talking about.

Yeah, so let's not condemn sex with little kids.

If you think for one nano-second that I do not condemning pedophiles, you're not reading *my* words, you're making things up. I'll thank you not to build straw men against which to rail. Take issue with what I said, not what you wish I had said. I've watched any number of discussions about gay marriage or pedophilia here at Wizbang end up being corrupted by the more extreme members of the right, who always attempt to link the two so as to transfer the appropriate horror about pedophiles to an entirely inappropriate and incongrous subject matter.

That was what my comment was about. Sorry if it wasn't clear, next time I'll spell it out.

As for those attempting to link me to a "liberal" side in conjunction with Lee...maybe you should ask first. I'm fairly conservative, libertarian-esque and a gun-toting, Bush-voting, used-to-own-a-truck guy who happens to despise a few of the social positions my fellow righties take. I'm also an enemy of the ACLU as long as they insist that the Second Amendment is not worth defending. I happen to agree with Kim and Jay's assessment that this story is a side effect of too much ACLU interference in the judicial system. Not all points of view are worthy of protection. This pedophile's position is abhorrent to any rational adult.

Wait, let me see if I've got this straight.

This guy is having sex with underaged boys but we're debating whether or not he's gay?

What's the point of that?

Whether or not he's gay, whether or not pedophilia is a disease, this guy is dangerous to children everywhere. He needs to be locked up for good.

The truly scary thing about this is that there are people out there who will buy into this garbage - the religion crap, not the gay crap.

A number of years ago, I remember reading that some clowns started a "pagan" temple in Los Angeles where men could pay a fee to have sex with a "priestess." After the inevitable bust, the defendents claimed that this was 'worship' and thus protected by the first amendment. The judge laughed heartily as he declared them guilty as charged.

Something like this is going to happen here. Nobody, but nobody wants to countenance pedophilia in any way. The pedophile is going nowhere -- except to jail.

If it was my kid, there wouldn't be a need for a trial, because there would be no defendent to prosecute. And it wouldn't take 20 years. I know that's not terribly "sensitive" to the "needs" of this "poor misunderstood man", but so be it. Pedophelia is absolutely unforgivable. The movement to somehow legitimize it ("Oh, my, it's a disease!") is a measure of the decline of our civilization.

Personally, I'm Old School: Nobody messes with my kid, or Hell is coming to breakfast.

Pedophelia is absolutely unforgivable. The movement to somehow legitimize it ("Oh, my, it's a disease!") is a measure of the decline of our civilization.

I think you're confusing two different things there. Pedophelia is unforgivable and there is a movement to legitimize it, but the "It's a disease" crowd aren't the ones trying to legitimize it. It's the sick twists that refuse to acknowledge that it's a disease without a cure. It *is* a mental illness with an almost 100% recidivism rate. The only way to prevent a pedophile from harming more children is through prevantative measures: prison, supervision, massive counseling, drugs, chemical castration, supervision, supervision and more supervision. Some more prison would be nice too.

Make no mistake: It's a disease. It may as well be cancer for how it cannot be cured. No, when you hear some NAMBLA bastard going on about how it's NOT a disease and that they should be allowed to "love and guide" young boys, etc...that's when you worry.

Thirteen or younger, and autistic. What sort of autism is not mentioned, nor how well the boys function. I suspect he used the pot to put them at ease, and the porn to rouse their interest.

Kids that age are naturally curious about sex. But when you combine a young age and the attendant innocence with a disability such as autism, and you've got a volatile mixture.

The problem is not that the child has to be coerced into sex, twelve year old boys would do it willingly if they had the chance. The problem is that the typical autistic child does not understand as well, or in the same way, as a normal child of the same age. Kids that age are easily hurt as it is, something like autism makes it much worse.

Now take a manipulative psychopath like the typical pedophile and place a child in his hands. It could get bad.

Life without the possibility of parole would be best in such cases

Boy, you guys don't miss any opportunity to go after your favorite boogeymen, do you? I think it's just awful the way the ACLU is rushing to this guy's defense. Oh, wait a minute, I just read the article. Strangely enough, there's no mention of the ACLU. As a matter of fact, they don't seem to have any connection to this case at all. But that doesn't stop you from putting them in the headline, does it? And you call the MSM deceptive.

This makes about as much sense as claiming that supporters of the gay marriage ban have "wrought" Fred Phelps.

peacemonger313:

Well, huh. Wow. I must claim ignorance on this current event until now. I do not understand why pedophiles are pedophiles, what I do understand is the children of not only this nation, but the world, are our most precious resource for the future, and no one has the right to alter their lives by exposing them to the degredation of sex for power, much less sex at all. Not quite sure all pedophiles are that way due to an empowerment issue. (I do not defend them, in any way, and I will not type the above statement again.) So, those of you out there who like to read between the lines, and make unfettered assumptions about everyone, in this case, you will be sadly wrong. Having said that, I have a few questions, well one glaring question at least. And, that is, who put these children in a situation where there was no supervision of this man, or if there was, how did he get away with it? Was it a government agency? And, if it was, how can we, (emphasis added) stop this horrible action from happening again? And, as far as aclu and nambla are interrelated, I claim ignorance on that point also. So, if anyone out there can direct me to a site that would tell me just what the hell the aclu was thinking, and it's relation to nambla, it would be greatly appreciated. So far in my search precious little, has been found by me.

Here's to a future of peace, love and prosperity for all on this planet hopefully sooner than later.
