9/11: Five years later

Today marks the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 Americans and guests of our nation, destroyed two great skyscrapers, seriously damaged a third building, brought down four airliners, and brought to stark relief the threat of terrorism that had been brewing for decades.

Today, as part of our coverage of this event, we will be posting reminders of the six major milestones on that day at the very moment they occurred five years ago. We will also be discussing other aspects of that event, and the way the world changed -- and didn't change -- in less than two hours on a lovely Tuesday morning.
