More On The UN Moonbat Meltdown

My Friday column is up at Townhall. Here is an excerpt:

I have never heard any Democrat leaders refer to the President as "the devil," but some have said he is a liar responsible for concocting a war resulting in the killing of innocent civilians in foreign countries in order to gain political advantage and to enrich his oil buddies. A leader who would intentionally mislead his citizens, and permit his country's sons and daughters to die for a lie or to line the pockets of his rich friends sounds like a devil to me - even without the references to sulphur.
...
I can't help but wonder if Democrats will rethink their own rhetoric now or if they will fall back into attack mode in a day or so. Certainly hearing so many of their talking points come out of the mouths of two lunatics would be enough for pause.

But then again, we have heard much of the same spouted by the likes of Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden and that has not reduced the level of rhetoric among the American Left against this President. Over the past five years they have repeatedly sided with murderous lunatics against George Bush, and I doubt that is going to change overnight.

My goodness, you must have seen the new film, "Iraq for Sale" where ex-contractors and soldiers back from Iraq tell in excruciating detail exactly that story.

I have been reading blogs and comments to them, for several years now and something interesting has become evident to me. While conservative (right wing) bloggers and commenters will often refer to the other side as idiots, morons and moonbats, I have not noticed any that call for the evil death of them. On the other hand the liberal (left wing) side of the spectrum will often write vitriol comments on how they would like to see this or that conservative drawn and quartered, die a hideous death and spend eternity in hell (which is funny, since most of them don't believe in it). It must be terrible, living with so much hate.

Hate? "eternity"...just wondering about your perception of "the sermon on the mount"..."blessed are the peacemakers, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven"....so...who will be in heaven...those that oppose Iraq or those that support it?

Oh, clever Drew. What Woul... (Below threshold)

Oh, clever Drew. What Would Jesus Do? Jesus who looks into our hearts and sees our motivations clearly and knows who is the peacemaker and who is not.

Only a very small segment of Christianity are absolute pacifists who would stand and die before raising a hand to even defend themselves. Most of us don't see that as something we're supposed to do, not from "blessed are the peacemakers" or more relevantly "turn the other cheek." Taken as a whole it's difficult to imagine that we aren't supposed to defend ourself or defend other people, but that's what pacificism is. Could you, for your God, watch someone you love be killed while you had a gun and a bullet and the means to stop it? They could.

Those who oppose the war aren't "pacifists" and they certainly aren't "peacemakers" because there is no peace. There never was. It's just different people getting killed. Where they "peacemakers" when the Taliban was in charge in Afghanistan and now taking hold in Somalia? Where they "peacemakers" when Saddam ran his butcher houses and filled his mass graves with women and children or dropped chemical weapons on his own citizens?

That's not "peacemaking". Inaction is not peacemaking. Being uninvolved is not peacemaking.

So I'll leave you with this thought.

Blessed be the Peacemakers. Ooo-Rah.
