Apparently he's sorry for creating such a fuss:
North Korean leader Kim Jong Il expressed regret about his country's nuclear test to a Chinese delegation and said Pyongyang would return to international nuclear talks if Washington backs off a campaign to financially isolate the country, a South Korean newspaper reported Friday.
"If the U.S. makes a concession to some degree, we will also make a concession to some degree, whether it be bilateral talks or six-party talks," Kim was quoted as telling a Chinese envoy, the mass- circulation Chosun Ilbo reported, citing a diplomatic source in China.Kim told the Chinese delegation that "he is sorry about the nuclear test," the newspaper reported.
I don't get it. Why the change of heart?
Oh, yeah. Of course.
It's Karl Rove's doing.
Hat tip: Drudge.
Update: As usual, Jim Addison offers some great insight:
"Pyongyang would return to international nuclear talks if Washington backs off a campaign to financially isolate the country" . . .
They aren't talking about the current UN sanctions, it is the US financial sanctions which have shut down DPRK money laundering through Asian banks, particularly in Malaysia, which precipitated their withdrawal from the six-party talks in the first place. These sanctions have shut off the easy income from counterfeiting US currency, and will not be lifted under any circumstances.

Sanctions. It should have been done years ago, but the Republicans were too busy making up phony excuses for staying in Iraq to be concerned.
Ooops, but it's too late anyway. He already has the nuke -- oh well. At least the Republicans are pretending to be interested now.
All the Chinese did was convince him the time to start making his demands was now, before the election, rather than afterwards.

It's hard for people like Lee to understand. The enemies know how to play people like him. I, of ALL people know the mentality, living in the Bay area since '75. Raised in the "we all understand" ideal since everyone here is just as brainwashedand living in the highly populated areas (police please take care of us), it is nothing new. Poor Lee couldn;t wait but 5 minutes until his seconds uncontested post, just to post again to show he must be the "man".
I post rarely, but this is only because Kim "Shrimp" Dong finally realizes China is serious. HE could care less about sanctions since he starves his people already (read up Moron Lee, ( I look back to to real trolls who had brains like Mantis). Duane has a point too, the left is very usefull...

Poor old Lee. Member of a party that has screamed for years "Take it to the U.N." Again the U.N. failed and the president of the United States started to blockade the idiot in North Korea so he couldn't get his favorite booze and he drops to his knees. If the democrats win this year they will do so much damage to the United States and get so many people killed they will ruin themselves forever. It going to be a comical two years, except for the families of the thousands killed in cities across the country.
No member of the democratic party in congress can be trusted with Top Secret information. Now another has been fingered for leaking to the NYT. At least they blame it on a staffer, not on Leaky Leahy. Oh, that's right. leaky isn't allowed around classified information.
Kind of like the lady congressional democratic candidiate out west who said Slick Willie could visit and raise money for her campaign, but he had better stay away from her daughter. Even democrats don't trust democrats. No one else should. What a bunch of criminals.

I'll say this, however: It is refreshing to see that Lee realizes that this is timed to effect the US elections, and designed to hurt the majority party. He, however, sides with China and NoKo (among other repressive regimes) in wanting to see Bush and friends out on the street.

The entire world wants the Republicans out of power in Washington, enemies and allies alike. Countries such as North Korea and Iran are our enemies precisely because of the fact that Republicans are in power. Example: Our allies in Britain will not be at our side the next time we need them, unless there is a regime change in Washington.
Fortunately, American voters are waking up to the fact that the policies and practices of the right-wing evangelical nutcakes has made us less safe, not more.
It's time for a change.

Were you born yesterday? We have been in a state of war with NK since 1951. I have been to Panmumjom during the Armistice Commission Meetings, videotaping upwards of 10 different meetings. Every meeting had the same tone; NK haranguing about "US Imperialist agression". While I was in Korea, the NK sent at least 7 different teams into ROK territory to either gather intel, blow something up, or create mayhem. The North Koreans hate us because we stopped them from taking over the South, not because a Republican is in the White House.
And refresh my memory, numbnuts, what party was in the White House when Iran took over our embassy and held our diplomats for over a year? They loved us so much they wanted to make sure we were well cared for, right?
Your partisanship is so blatant that a blind man could see it.

Funny, I have never stopped feeling like an American, and have prided myself on being an independent.
My point (which obviuosly sailed right over your head) was that the two countries that you named as being enemies of the US, only became enemies of the US when Bush took office according to you. Let's see, NK has hated us for 55+ years (funny happened under a Dem president) and Iran for 27+ years (again under a Dem president), but you would have us believe that they only started hating us when Bush took office.
Can you say revisionist history? I knew you could as it is your specialty.
