Yesterday Jim Addison blogged about the Democratic staff person who was suspended for leaking national security informaton. The identity of that Dem staffer has now been revealed.
The aide was identified by other congressional officials as Larry Hanauer. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of a pending investigation into the leak, said Hanauer had held positions with the departments of Defense and Homeland Security before joining the professional staff of Democrats on the House intelligence panel about two years ago.A spokesman for Harman said Hanauer was not available to comment. His attorney, Jonathan Turley, expressed anger that Hanauer was named in news reports Friday and said there was no evidence the aide leaked the intelligence report.
Turley wrote to committee leaders, "When a staffer can become fodder for politics in this way, it discourages qualified people from seeking to join public service."
Other Democratic aides said Hanauer was familiar with rules surrounding classified materials and said they were skeptical he would leak information.
The Squiggler has a good roundup, as does Michelle Malkin, who points to some scandals no one is talking about -- including how Jane Harman retained her position as top Dem on the House Intelligence Committee.
I am with Macranger:
This is going to get good. "Democrat Spies on the House Intelligence Committee during a time of war".....Foley who?....
I doubt this will get anywhere close to the amount of coverage Foley is still getting (all these weeks later), and the headline written by the MSM will never come close to Macranger's, but this issue obviously has bigger implications to the safety and security of American citizens than Foley's instant messages. Especially since Foley is gone, but Harman is still there. Unfortunately, sex scandals, even ones that don't involve actual sex, provide better material for the late night comics than national security does.
Update: Flopping Aces is connecting the dots.

The staffer was on Jane Harman's (Top dog demo on the intel committee) staff and was hired by her. Now the 'treason' is being defended by none other than SF Nan Peloshi. How many demo's knew of the treason and knew who committed the treason? Sounds like the entire demo leadership was involved if not in the actual crime, then at least in the coverup.
What other crimes is Harman under federal investigation for? How long has she been a traitor?
Time to clean house in the congress, of the democ'rat party members that are trairors who have succeeded in getting out soldiers killed on a daily basis. No mistake, no bad decision, deliberately assisting the enemy.

As far as a leak to the NYT - I think we have to wait until charges are brought and a trial is held to determine guilt. Until then, your strategy of blaming America first is really misguided.

I would think that if it were that juicy of a story, your buddies over at CNN would have it covered jp2. I think the point of the stories here at wizbang are to post stories and commentary that provide somewhat of an "equal-time" to your buddies over at CNN etc... If Hastert really does have some shady land deals i'm sure that the feds and subsequently CNN/MSNBC/ABC/CBS will be all over it, thus no reason for a fine site like Wizbang to wring their hands over it.
On the other hand, Harry Reid and many other democrats go unpunished and uninvestigated for reasons unknown, while republicans get investigated if they look funny or don't talk right.
As far as blaming america first? don't make me laugh jp2. you might want to check the people on your side of the aisle that say our troops shouldn't be terrorizing the iraqis in the dead of night, or that our troops slaughter innocents like pol-pot in the pattie fields. I think you might want to check your side of the aisle before you try to project the "blame america first" name on the right.
I saw a post, not sure if it was Wizbang or not, about how the left uses projection (says the other side does something their own side does but turns a blind eye to it when their own side does it) all the time. The double standard with the left is glaring, and i'm glad to see that fine sites like Wizbang stand up and call you lefties out on it.

Here's the silver-bullet, smoking-gun evidence that LaHood had for accusing this staffer:
"'I have no credible information to say any classified information was leaked from the committee's minority staff, but the implications of such would be dramatic,' LaHood said in the letter, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press. 'This may, in fact, be only coincidence, and simply 'look bad.' But coincidence, in this town, is rare.'"
On Fox News, he elaborated, "There are some of us on the other side who can equally play politics, and I'm not afraid to do it."
So, there you have it. The Harman staffer is guilty as charged. Case closed. Take that libs.
I'm with Hugh on this one. Punish the guy when there's actually any evidence (other than that this guy had access to the same report thousands of others did). When the accuser says that he's playing politics, it doesn't fill me with faith that the accusations are well grounded.

The truth of the matter is that this right wing administration is a failure; its policies are a failure. The right wing Congress is a failure; its policies are a failure. The war is a failure. The congress is corrupt. Bush acts, sounds and looks like he is clueless. The right is in a panic and has begun eating its own children. The kook xtian right blames the neocons, the neocons blame the xtian right, the true conservatives are disgusted at profligate spending and a national debt their great grandchildren will be paying off. Scaring the country about terrorism doesn't work. Scaring folks about gay marriage doesn't work. Phoney alerts just prior to elections doesn't work. Busting plots by goofballs who don't have bus fare much less the means to do damage doesn't work.
The news is terrible for the wingnuts. So the idea, the mere whiff of something to change the subject from failure is leapt upon like meat for rabid dogs. The panic of the realization that America has awakened and is rejecting your policies and your candidates is more than you can bear.
The answer? Convict someone today, immediately, because of a coincidence. If that doesn't sum you folks up I don't know what does.

There's a new book on Ronald Reagan making the rounds, The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism. Its author, Paul Kengor, unearthed a sensational document from the Soviet archives. That document is a memo regarding an offer made by Sen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts via former Senator John Tunney, both Democrats, to the General Secretary of the Communist Party, USSR, Yuri Andropov, in 1983. The offer was to help the Soviet leadership, military and civilian, conduct a PR campaign in the United States as President Ronald Reagan sought re-election. The goal of the PR campaign would be to cast President Reagan as a warmonger, the Soviets as willing to peacefully co-exist, and thereby turn the electorate away from Reagan. It was a plan to enlist Soviet help, and use the American press, in unseating an American president.

This new information gibes with news accounts saying that Democratic Party operatives werre shopping the Foley story to the Press months before it broke.
The evidence is pointing toward a conspiracy within the Democratic Party and its supporters to withhold information about Mark Foley's suspected peccadilloes until it was politically expedient to release it. In other words, it was never about the "children," it was always about exploiting the children for political purposes.
