Lowest Unemployment Rate In Five Years

This is the kind of news that got Clinton's economy "best in the history of the world" status. Just wait to see how the evening news anchors spin this one. Hint: we won't hear about the booming Bush economy. More likely, they will follow this story and hype fears of impending high inflation.

The U.S. unemployment rate dropped to its lowest in nearly 5-1/2 years during October as 92,000 more jobs were added and hiring in each of the two prior months was revised up, a government report on Friday showed.

The October new-jobs figure was below Wall Street economists' expectations for 125,000 but the Labor Department said a total 139,000 more jobs were created in August and September than it had previously thought. It revised up September's job-creation total to 148,000, or nearly three times the 51,000 it reported a month ago, and said there were 230,000 new jobs in August instead of 188,000.

The unemployment rate fell in October to 4.4 percent from 4.6 percent in September. It was the lowest unemployment rate since 4.3 percent in May 2001 and was likely to fan concerns that labor markets are growing tight and could contribute to inflation pressures.

Average hourly earnings rose 0.4 percent to $16.91 - higher than the 0.3 percent that analysts had anticipated - while the average work week edged up to 33.9 hours from 33.8. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 3.9 percent, the department said.

Out here in the People's Republik of San Francisco an SF State "economist" was on the tube two nights ago.

The interviewer asked: "The economy seems pretty healthy...what concerns you?"

His response: "THAT is what concerns me. The good economic numbers can't continue forever, and then we'll have a big downturn."

Amazing stuff. Even more amazing is that the interviewer didn't fall off her chair. Instead she just nodded her head sagely. Sweet Jesus!!

If it's bad, they'll trumpet it's Bush's fault... if something good happens on Bush's watch, they desperately try for a bad spin, or totally divert the issue. Pretty freakin' pathetic, guys.

Good point, Gianni... the "tolerant" left has no problem with racial, ethnic, and sexual slurs if it's on someone/something that doesn't support their adgenda. From throwing Oreo cookies at black conservative candidates to the "cock-smoking" comment of Barney...

Thanks for pointing out the reasons we should vote Republican again: the liberals will help clean up the reps and conservatives will demand it too. Liberals will be happy to swim in the moral sewage with the Dems. Nuke tech in Iraq under Saddam is so advanced that it can help Iran now. So nuke and Saddam should be a big deal as we have been saying all along.

Thanks again for pointing anothe example of dishonesty from the NYT. You keep confirming my conclusion about the intellectual and moral sewage of the liberal left. Many, many thanks!

The war is still the main issue. The umemployment rate figures of the Bush administration, are closer to where they were during the last 2 years of the Clinton/ Gore administration. It might be worthwhile to remember that Bush ridiculed or least downplayed Gore/Clinton job creation figures (in October 2000} for example, during a campaign stop in Fraser, Mich., he said "some politicians want to take credit for the new economy, but I don't see government starting new companies, writing new software, inventing new technology, opening new factories. I've always thought those things were done by, well, the people who did them. Our new economy was not created in a Senate subcommittee or a vice presidential commission."

Thanks for pointing out another example of the dishonesty of the liberal left. The left will help clean up the right (religious or non-religious). The left is happily bashing gay for their political power. So we know that they are dishonest when they condemn gay-bashing. Anyway, the point stands that liberals are happily swimming in the moral sewage with the Dems. So we need to elect more Reps and we will have more liberals make sure that we clean them up. If not these liberals will be swimming the sewage of racism, bigotry, ACLU-NAMBLA, pornography, Clinton etc... BTW, bareny would joint the ACLU by lowering the sentence for drug dealers. Are they trying to make cocaine legal?

Many thanks again for confirming my point about the moral sewage of the left.

The only thing Bush and Reps did was to reduce taxed so that the people can keep more of their money and give them bigger incentive to start new business.

Surprised that you missed the point about the dishonesty of the MSM: Clinton was praised to the roof for the internet bubble in 1990s (his adm had to inflate the GNP by 20% to fool the stock market). ANd now all the MSM can do is to say that low unemployment and higher wages is bad because it may cause inflation! The dishonesty is clearly there for all to see. Are you not able to see or are you trying to spin? just curious.

Yep, the economy is in sorry shape. Industrial and city leaders in this area have teamed up to beg for skilled workers or new graduates to attend training workshops to fill the many jobs that cannot be filled from the current workforce. Business owners are losing millions of dollars due to a shortage of workers, evidently there are jobs that the criminal mexicans can't fill. Anyone that wants a job has one and you had better not walk down the street looking unemployed or they will drag you in and give you two jobs. Scrapiron:

4.4% unemployment has always been thought impossible in my lifetime since there is a group of liberl democrats that have ridden the welfare wagon for three-four generations. Add im the 8-10 million criminal mexicans that are working illegally and the unemployment rate is probably less than 2 %.

Local Business and government leaders have teamed up and are begging for skilled workers to avoid unfilled orders and loss of businesses.

One of my friends who usually works in Fl. every winter due to his type of outside work decided he was staying in Va. this winter. He went out today to look for work, came back with a job starting at $18 per hour with a promise that he will become the head of a drill rig crew (big raise) after 30 days if he likes the work. The job is not in his usual line of work so he will have to be trained for the first 30 days. He's a high school grad, plenty smart, and a hard worker, so he will be running a drill rig crew in less than 30 days. He also had a job offer as a truck driver since he has a CDL license, and it also pays good money, but requires more time away from the family.

Want a job, get some training and go look. There are more jobs than there are skilled people to fill them.

Heh. After the last several years of blistering white-hot housing growth, it slows down a little. And that means it's 'in the toilet'? HaHaHaHa!

The phenominal growth rate that the housing market has been showing lately was unsustainable. It's a good thing if it slows a little.

Calm down, Dickie. You sound like a hysterical schoolgirl.

w full detailsco Looks like Nokia's announced their new E60, E61, and E70 3G (WCDMA) phones with WiFi and mobile mail targeting mobile business users (yes, it's got GoodLink, Nokia Business Center, Seven Always-On, Visto Mobile, and BlackBerry Connect support). All the Series 60 Es run on Symbian OS 9.1 and will support advanced voice services such as Push-To-Talk and SIP allowing companies to integrate these phones into their Avaya or Cisco IP PBX (think 4-digit dialing and assisted call answering). The E60 candybar is optimized for voice and targets GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 and WCDMA2100 networks while the E61 takes a shot off the Motorola Q's bow and includes all the IP telephony functions but is optimized for mobile email and operates in quad-band GSM and WCDMA 2100 networks. The E70 is their enterprise all-in-one messaging device and will be released in two flavas: one for Europe and Asia and another for the Americas. Lee:

the housing market is indeed in the toilet - why are so many Republicans so damned uninformed?

Real estate slump tough on Midwest

SOUTH BEND, IND. - The housing market slowdown is nationwide, yet it has taken its earliest toll in Midwestern communities where the word "boom" never applied to home prices.

Here in the northern Indiana city of South Bend, where "For Sale" signs sparkle alongside golden foliage in the autumn sun, the median price of a resold home is $101,000 - less than half the national average.

Some forecasters say that coastal communities, from California to the Eastern seaboard, may in the end see the sharpest downturn in prices. But it is this region, characterized by slow job growth and gathering problems in the automotive industry, that has stumbled first. In a business where outright price declines are rare, the Midwest was the first region in recent years to post a drop in prices - with median single-family homes down 2 percent in the second quarter from the same period in 2005.

The Bush Economy house of cards is beginning to fold. If you haven't yet been hurt, you will be. If you have already been hurt, you may be hurt again. Get informed, and make god choices in the polls on Tuesday.

Smoking "Crank"?? that's a new one to me.
You should try to keep more informed (see #4).

Maybe because we don't use the stuff. I didn't know what a "rusty trumpet" was (It was used in a blogger post) until I had to look it up, and I threw up a little in my mouth.

Les Nessman:

"the housing market is in the toilet"

Heh. After the last several years of blistering white-hot housing growth, it slows down a little. And that means it's 'in the toilet'? HaHaHaHa!

The phenominal growth rate that the housing market has been showing lately was unsustainable. It's a good thing if it slows a little.

Calm down, Lee. You sound like a hysterical schoolgirl.

"Get informed, and make god choices in the polls on Tuesday."

Heh. You heard the man. Make 'God choices' this Tuesday; vote for the Religious Right.

Lee's just a lying idiot. ... (Below threshold)

Lee's just a lying idiot. Ignore him if you aren't in a mood to be entertained by a pathetic moonbat.

BAN this spammer JOHN, though - quick!

I hate having to scroll down so far to see how Lee is going to humiliate himself next.

So unemployment is almost back to where it was before Bush took over. That's good news....of a sort.

4.4% unemployment has al... (Below threshold)
Brian:

4.4% unemployment has always been thought impossible in my lifetime

Then you must have literally been born yesterday.

Perhaps your lifetime does not extend back to the late 60s, with the less than 4.0 unemployment rate under Johnson (a Democrat, if you didn't know).

But unless you're a freak genius 6-year-old, you're definitely familiar with the 4.2 and 4.0 rates in 1999 and 2000 under Clinton (another Democrat, if you didn't know).

Impossible... but true!
