A Positive Approach

In my Townhall column today I say that I will choose a positive approach to respond to the election results rather than the "blame Diebold and threaten to leave the country" approach favored by many on the other side of the aisle. I did not see Ann Coulter's column until after mine was written and submitted, but we must have been getting the same Rovian mind control message. (Ann's column is actually on a different topic, but we both made the Diebold point.)

Lee:

Electronic voting without a paper trail has the potential to unravel the fabric of our democracy by polluting our free election process.

The fact that conservatives will not stand with the Democrats in insuring that never happens lends credence to the concern. Why on earth would a political party be so determined to fight efforts at securing a reliable, tamper-free polling process?

In case it wasn't obvious, I have not read Coulter's post. I don't intend to. I refuse to support those on the right who seek to victimize my fellow Americans for the sake of selling a book or two. I hope more people do the same.

I have no problem with good ol' fashioned paper ballots. Tell ya what, Lee - we agree to have a tamper proof ballot if you guys agree to photo IDs as a requirement to vote.

Let's do tamper-proof 100%.

Hood, I'm with you. As soon as the dems quit knocking down all mandatory ID in order to vote bills that they can, we'll take them seriously on voting reforms.

Till then, we know they're just trying to make it as easy as possible to cheat.

I give up ...why are the Democrats so dead set (pun intended) against requiring some form of photo identification ?

Lee, I suggest you don't read Ann Coulter's column. It lists past history of presidents and how many seats they lose, etc. It makes Bush look pretty damn good, and shows this is no mandate.

Don't read it. It will ruin your good mood.

Jo.. The fact that Bush won both presidential elections by the slimmest of margins one state in 2000, Florida and one state in 2004, Ohio didn't stop him from governing as if he had a large mandate 'I earned capital in this campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it': Bush November 4, 2004.

Again, a wonderful belief system you neo-cons have going: no matter what - everything is good for Republicans. No. matter. what.
