Pelosi Loses

The Democratic House caucus just voted on the next Majority Leader, and Nancy Pelosi's choice, John "ethics is crap" Murtha suffered a "thumping." Stenny Hoyer beat him 149 to 86. The word from Washington is that many Democrats are despondent that the caucus was torn apart so soon after winning the majority. Now, to make matters worse, the Speaker has essentially suffered a no-confidence vote from her own caucus.

Before the election, I knew there was a chance we could both the Senate and the House. But with a Senate Majority Leader being investigated by the Justice Department, and the Democratic Senator from New Jersey the subject of a criminal probe by a top-notch US Attorney, and the Democratic Speaker of the House a seeming incompetent who can't even obtain the support of 40% of her caucus for Majority Leader, I do not think there could be a better way to start the 2008 Presidential election.

Competence and corruption. Those sound like two really good issues to me. Later on tonight, be sure to check Wizbang Politics for a round-up of the major races next year - Philadelphia Mayor, Kentucky Governor, Louisiana Governor, and Mississippi Governor.

Let's see how she's doing so far. John Murtha:

Murtha, 74, was a problematic candidate because of his penchant for trading votes for pork projects and his ties to the Abscam bribery sting in 1980, the only lawmaker involved who wasn't charged.

In 1989, Hastings was convicted by the U.S. House on two Articles of Impeachment: perjury and conspiracy to obtain a bribe. He subsequently became only the sixth Judge in U.S. history to be removed from office by the Senate.

Pelosi Lied Murtha Died!

Lee, you've spent a good deal of your time trying to call out the President for lying, I think it's only fair the favor gets returned every so often, which was the entire point of me bringing it up.

I don't, however, see any bitching...only gloating. You, and the left should be very understanding about that as you're still gloating about winning the majority.

Lott (I don't like him either) was and is not a racist, he made a stupid remark in an attempt to honor a dying old man. He paid for the remark. The KKK Kleagle guy belongs to you, jack boots, white sheet and all.

The conservatives aren't whining. You mistake a roaring laugh for a whine. Time for a hearing check up.

We do agree, the dim's made the best choice, but your leader Peeeloshi didn't, she lost big time. That's why we laugh while 40% of the dim's are in hiding.

So far the dim's have made this election the comedy of the century. Keep it up. People feel better when they laugh, even if laughing at other people's stupidity.

I'm still waiting for the sweeping clean up of corruption in congress. Will Peeeloshi remove half of the dim's and then resign herself. She and her family have now been identified as part of the corruption she wants to clean up. Where do I mail the gallon of clorox, or part of the 10 gal. of Vanish (stain remover) I bought in an auction at the local school board. It's guaranteed to remove pet stains and the smell. Sounds perfect for removing all traces of the criminal dim's in congress.

I love how Lee tries to bring Trent Lott into the discussion. How he was treated by the MSM for his comments was quite revealing in comparison to how Robert "KKK" Byrd is viewed by the MSM and his esteemed Democratic colleagues in Congress. Here you have a guy who was a member of the KKK and actually recruited new members in his role as a "Kleagle" being praised as "the conscience of the Senate". Then you had Christopher Dodd lionizing the guy saying he would have been a "great leader" for any portion of American history. I guess that would include the time he was running around with a white sheet over his head or when he famously filibustered the Civil Rights Act when it came to the floor for a vote - a landmark piece of legislation that never would have made it into law without the support of Republicans. Dodd got off almost totally unscathed for his comments while Lott lost his job as Majority Leader in the Senate. Republicans pay the price for their ill-advised comments and actions while Democrats as usual get off scot free and are often re-elected and promoted to even higher positions of leadership. Feel free to defend guys like John Murtha, William "Cold Cash' Jefferson, Bill Clinton, Robert Byrd and Christopher Dodd all you want. You look like a complete ass when you accuse the Bush White House of corruption based upon no evidence whatsoever - merely your biased suspicions and willingness to believe anything and everything because you have such an unhealthy and unhinged hatred of the President...

Trent Lott only won by one vote. That tells me that there are Republicans still thinking independently rather that the unanimous vote for Pelosi which indicates a massive group-think mindset (nevermind that she was unopposed).

This is the Ms. Pelosi who up until just two weeks ago was slinging out all manner of vile accusations and used very unflattering language to describe her opponents - and now, just this morning says, i>"As I said to my colleagues, as we say in church, let there be peace on Earth and let it begin with us. Let the healing begin."

I threw up a little in my mouth. What a hypocrite. Did her church teach her to be such a harpy for the last six years too? And all her peers don't have any problem with this.

DeltaOP:

Perhaps, Lee. But what I have observed here is that you are quick to point out Republican corruption while ignoring behavior that is often worse from the Democratic side of the aisle. It is not enough for you to bash a Democrat only when you are called upon to do so. Perhaps you should take it upon yourself to call out the scoundrels on the liberal side of the equation when such information comes to light that they are, indeed, corrupt. You would have a lot more credibility than the tiny bit you have around here as of now...

As for your statements that we are simply morons who only follow right-wing talking points - I beg to differ. I have not been happy that the President and congressional Republicans have been unable to contain government spending despite tax cuts that have had the effect of boosting the economy while INCREASING overall tax revenues - which is the way our economy and tax system should work. I am unhappy that the illegal immigration issue has not been solved or even worked on to the level it should have been by now. I have been unhappy about the progress in the war in Iraq but am not so blind as to blame the President and Republicans for everything. War is not always predictable and I really don't recall any liberals who didn't support the intervention claiming that there would be this level of sectarian violence - they only did not support overthrowing Saddam Hussein by force. It was not also a given that terrorist elements like Al Qaeda would automatically move in to Iraq either. Things could have been handled better but we need to move on and find the best strategy moving forward. The initial invasion was a remarkable success while the clean up and maintaining order part has been a lot tougher. Staying the course has NEVER meant not changing stratgies and tactics as events warrant it - that is the biggest myth liberals have been spinning since the infamous "mission accomplished" speech.

The Democrats don't have any plans and their entire 2004 campaign really revealed nothing as to what they plan to do about Iraq or anything else. They simply ran a campaign that was opposed to what the President and Republicans have done and are trying to accomplish without ever revealing what they plan to do once they gain control. Of course, if most Americans actually knew what their agenda was they never would have voted for them in the first place.
