President Bush's Daughter Robbed in Argentina

The Blotter reported that President Bush's daughter, Barbara, had her purse stolen while she was in Argentina. Not only that, but her body guard received quite a beating a few days earlier during what may have been an attempted mugging:

First Daughter Barbara Bush had her purse and cell phone stolen as she had dinner in a restaurant in Buenos Aires, Argentina, even though she was being guarded by a detail of Secret Service agents, according to law enforcement reports made available to ABC News.

It was not the only mishap on the two-week trip to Argentina by Barbara (right) and her twin sister Jenna (left).

A Secret Service agent on the advance detail got into an "altercation" with someone after a night out and was badly beaten, according to the law enforcement reports. The Secret Service said today the incident was an attempted mugging that occurred while the agent was on his own time. The agent is doing fine.

The purse snatching took place on Barbara's first night in town while she was dining in the picturesque San Telmo neighborhood. According to the reports, the Secret Service agents failed to notice the incident.

The Secret Service detail guarding Miss Bush obviously were not doing their jobs.

Added: I surmised that her secret service detail were not doing their jobs because someone was able to get close enough to her to steal her purse and they didn't notice it. What if the mugger had a gun? If someone can get close enough to steal her purse, then someone can get close enough to hurt her.

Actually, I suspect their job is to guard Ms. Bush, not guard her purse...

I would first want to have a bit of details on where the purse was when it was stolen. If she took it to the bathroom, left it in the stall and then didn't find it later, the secret service is hardly to blame. If it was hanging on the back of her chair, then a procedures review is in order as to how someone got that close.

What does it matter if FDR's sons served in WW2? Non sequitor to the real issue, which is Secret Service protection for any president's child. I believe it likely they weren't doing a very good job, but it also sounds like there job is especially tough overseas.

The Bush daughters should not be dragged into your political crossfire...however you may feel about the father.

Of course, there's only 2 of them and tens or hundreds of thousands of moonbats like Lee and Herman up for the slots. So Lee and Herman, or those like them in the proper age range, might get their wish and they'll have an equal chance to pull their weight in the war effort too.

Every presidents family has to be protected because of all of the nuts running around on the streets. Most of the nuts would be locked in a mental facility if not for the 'liberal' laws. Now they steal, rob and kill while starving or freezing to death because it's illegal to lock them up for their own protection.

Right now there is more raw hate in this country than at anytime in history. All because the antique MSM and a few dim leaders, starting with Algore, didn't get their way in a few elections. Do you think the hate created for political purposes will go away? No way, it is too deeply ingrained in millions (evidently about 48% of the voting public) and will only be transfered to someone or something else.

Get help people, and get it now (if it isn't too late) before you spread it to your children and cause them to lead the same miserable drunken drugged up life you are living.

The drugged part is not necessarly street drugs, millions of you are flooding the doctors offices daily seeking hard prescription drugs.

I almost left my wallet at the Chinese food place today when I got take-out.

The only time I had anything stolen from my purse I left it in the booth at Wendy's. (It was also the one and only time I decided to budget groceries by getting my grocery budget in cash with the added incentive of getting a treat with whatever was left over by next pay-day. Ouch! Got my purse back, but not the cash.

Anyway... I'm just saying that if she's sitting at a restraunt with her purse under the chair (do they do that in ritzy places?) and the secret service didn't notice someone "snatch" it, that's 1) hard to believe, and 2) really incompetent. I woudln't, however, expect them to notice if she left the table without it.

I don't get it. I have been to Buenos Aires twice and it always felt safe and secure to me, even while I was staggering around drunk in the dark.

Also, eating out there is really quite cheap when compared to New York or DC or Dallas.

I will never understand the cold-hearted invective being spewed in the blogosphere tonight at these two innocent girls by those on the far left who harbor such hatred for George W. Bush.
Hating a guy constantly for six years has apparently diminished their capacity to feel compassion. It's ugly.

Sounds like she left it somewhere, and somebody else "found" it.

Hardly a "purse snatching", or getting "robbed".

I don't think it's the secret services job to make sure some airhead has her coat and purse at all times. Self reliance, please.

To protect their purses?

NO! That's silly -- the Secret Service is to protect them from bodily harm, not protect their purse! My bad...

This post is another example of the simpleton logic exhibited by some conservatives (not you wavemaker). Just take a simple fact, and twist into a meaning that suits your mood of the day. Young Barbara Bush's purse is stolen --- therefore the Secret Service was asleep.

But let's look at the details of the purse snatching. Wait a minute -- the linked article doesn't have any details that will let us determine how this happened.

I've met and observed members of the Secret Service in action. I was extremely impressed by their professionalism and skill. This post, and the comments of people like Justrand, shows just how childish conservatives can be sometime. Absent any details -- the labeling of the secret service "at fault" is simply not fair.

Get over it people. Bush's daughters have nothing to do with their father's job.

Was her purse under her chair? Did she leave it in the restroom? Was it checked and stolen from the checkroom?

We don't know from the information provided, do we? And yet you clowns jump to the conclusion that good, hardworking American Secret Service agents failed?

The men and women of the American Secret Service, who put their lives on the line every day, deserve this? Not in my blue book they don't.

Gosh, Lee, that's what I said. What point is the quote from me? I said *if* she had the purse on her it either seemed impossible or else they *were* incompetent, BUT that if she left the purse I wouldn't expect them to notice or keep track of it.

Someone else said that too... if she'd left it in the loo or something... it didn't reflect on the Secret Service.

I would, however, like to correct the person who said that if she left it somewhere that it wasn't stolen...

Yes, it was.

Picking up something that is not yours and keeping it is STEALING. If you think that you're entitled to property that is not yours because someone else isn't careful enough with it, then you are a theif, every bit as much as someone who only steals from houses that they are able to break into, since adequate care to keep people out was obviously not made.
