I saw Senator Lieberman on Hannity and Colmes last night and thought the whole exchange was was pretty funny. Senator Lieberman is really enjoying his political independence. I guess I was a little surprised when he said his national political career is over, but it makes sense for him. And I really enjoyed his answer when Alan Colmes asked him if he would endorse Al Gore should he run for president in 2008. Lieberman said he wants to see who the candidates are in both parties first.
Ouch. I think Gore is still smarting.

The only thing that amazes about this whole Lieberman saga is why the Republicans didn't run a legitimate candidate in Connecticut? In a three-way race with two liberal Democrats (Lamont and Lieberman), the Republicans might have taken that seat and they would still be in control of the Senate.
And why would it suprise you that Lieberman is through on the national stage? When you run against your own party's candidate as elected by the primary voters that doesn't exactly display party loyalty.

Senator Lieberman also said that he wants to see who the candidates are from both parties.
Let's see...Lieberman said he wants to see who the candidates are in both parties -- ouch -- and then says he wants to see who the candidates are in both parties. Okay, I think I've got that.
Thanks!
By the way, did Lieberman say whose candidacy he'd endorse?

Larkin,
What on earth makes you think there's a legitimate Republican candidate in all of Connecticut?

More to the point: doesn't anyone else remember Gore using those exact words when Lieberman asked for his endorsement for the 2004 presidential campaign?
It's fate. Karma. Kismet. Destiny. It's Gore's own BS coming back to bite him on the ass.
And it's a beautiful thing.

'J' I believe you respect Algore about as much as I do. When his daddy died he lost the coattails he had rode all of his life and has no mind of his own. Just a pawn for every radical (idiot) group that comes along. Assumed he was an educator at one time and grew a beard to prove it or to be in the anti-american clique, whatever.
This election got some people in office but it killed the political career, as far as advancement to higher office, for others in the dim party. Ain't that a shame?

Two points:
1) If a strong Republican had run in CT, we would have Sen Lamont instead of Sen Lieberman.
2) Lieberman is planning to be the running mate with McCain, with the latter as a Republican nominee or running as an independent. It will be a Republican/Independent or a Independent/Independent ticket.

Sam, your point #1 is well taken.
Regarding #2) if McCain wins the Rep nomination there's no way he could pick Lieberman at the Convention. The party regulars would rebel. He'll have to select somebody like Romney or Gingrich who will be popular with the base.
And if McCain doesn't win the Rep nomination I don't think he'll run as an Indy. The odds are just too long and it's too difficult. And he would likely split the conservative vote between himself and the Republican thereby handing the election to the Democrat.
For the record: I contributed to McCain in 2000. I think history has proven that he was the right choice in that election.

Yeah, Larkin, I gave $500 to McCain in 2000 and traveled to NH to canvass for him.
Ah, what might have been if Bush didn't start those rumors about McCain's illegitimate black daughter (he adopted a girl from Bangladesh) or that the Jews were controlling his campaign (because Warren Rudman was on McCain's committee), or that McCain was the Manchurian candidate.
