Andrew Douglas Reed, a Democrat activist, was given a sickeningly light sentence of only 10 months in jail by a Democrat judge after a plea bargain recommendation from a Democrat prosecutor. Reed's crimes could have gotten him a sentence of more than 80 years in prison.
A Democrat community leader who would "offer a homily during worship services" and facilitated his congregation's "opening our doors to all people regardless of sexual orientation" has been given a slap on the hand after pleading guilty to extensive child pornography offenses involving children as young as six.
Authorities say Andrew Douglas Reed, 53, who reported for an abbreviated jail term just a few weeks ago, had pleaded guilty to a page-long list of counts of 2nd-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.Court records in the Asheville, N.C., case said he admitted that he would "record, develop and duplicate material containing a visual representation of a minor engaging in sexual activity." That activity is defined by state law as including masturbation, intercourse and "touching - in apparent sexual stimulation or sexual abuse - of the genitals, pubic area or buttocks."
However, instead of the 967 months in jail - nearly 81 years - for which he was liable, Judge Robert Lewis, another Democrat, gave him, in a plea bargain with the office of District Attorney Ron Moore, who was elected as a Democrat, a 10-12 month sentence.
And according to the report, there were other Democrat activists who thought his ridiculously light sentence of 10 months was too much. Take a look at how Reed's supporters are completely comfortable dismissing his sick, disgusting sexual exploitation of children because of his liberalism:
"It has been my pleasure to share Andy's commitment to ensuring that compassion and democracy are at work across our community," wrote Beth Lazer, a Democrat who shared Unitarian Universalist church theologies with Reed and serves as the head of the local public access television, URTV.
She said in her letter of reference she first worked with Reed "when we both served on the board of the local chapter of the League of Women Voters.""What an invaluable board member he was," she said.
Steve Hagerman, the executive director of the Asheville Symphony, wrote on symphony letterhead that, "Reed has been a long-time supporter of the arts in Western North Carolina and has been involved in many worthwhile causes in our community."
And Oralene Graves-Simmons, a Democrat who leads the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Asheville, wrote a page and a half extolling Reed's virtues.
"When the decision was made in 2001 to incorporate the Association as an independent non-profit organization, Andy was instrumental in making it happen. He wrote the new organization's by-laws, revised and edited its incorporation papers, and, with me, determined the makeup of its founding board of directors," Graves-Simmons wrote.
"It was for his ten years of dedicated service that last January the MLK Association honored Andy with the 2005 Community Humanitarian Award," she wrote.
Take a close look at the mentality of the people who support Reed, a list that obviously includes the judge and the prosecutor. They don't care if he produced kiddie porn, victimizing children as young as six years old. He's a Democrat who supports the League of Women Voters, the symphony, and humanitarian causes. That's all that matters to them.

I'm confused. Did he produce them (a "hands on" exploitation), or did he copy and sell child pron?
That makes a big difference in sentencing.
From what I read elsewhere he did the second and so the sentence is low, but not outrageously.
If he did the first, then he should do a good ten years or better.

This may be the most pathetic whine, the political part of it, that you folks have ever conjured up in an ongoing never-ending series of daily whines.
What this thread shows is that you are absolutely bankrupt when it comes to discussing anything of substance. You want to talk about child pornography and the horrible impact it has in this country. Great idea. No, lets whine because democrats were involved.
And, of course were he a "republican" activist there would be nothing about it to read here.
Now the goofs here can retort with your Foley stories. Playing the republican victim role so many of you seem so expert at doing.

I get real intolerant when it comes to molesting kids. The kids involved are damaged for life and this creep will not be "cured" of his "illness". He'll be cruising for new recruits as soon as he gets out of jail, and we all know it, whether we admit it or not.
Anybody who could do that to kids is an animal of the lowest order and should be subjected to the death penalty. It's a crime against humanity, as far as I'm concerned, and it should be treated as such.
That doesn't even begin to address the lenient treatment given to liberals who get judged by bend-over-backwards compassionate liberal judges. If this creep was a conservative activist, he'd be going away forever. This case is a disgrace.

Hugh, reread Kim's original article. And for the record, I'm not playing a role, and it ain't about politics, so spare me your partisan contempt.
Go check the recidivism rates for pedophiles. It's near 100%. There are two things you don't want to be in prison: a corrupt cop or a pedophile. Even rapists despise pedophiles and target them in prison. It's the lowest form of humanity, as far as I'm concerned.
Pedophiles don't "get better", and even chemical castration doesn't help. So the obvious answer is to put them away for all day or execute them in egregious cases. Like this one. And before you get all weepy and snarly about these poor misunderstood defendants, consider what it does to the kids involved. Now imagine it's your kid.
I used to work with the father of one of John Wayne Gacy's victims, and I saw what it did to him. He simply broke. He was never the same again, and I dare say that the same thing would happen to you if it was your kid.
And screw your liberal diatribe. Everything is evil neocons to you.

If the ultimate test of compassion is "tolerance," then let's let all the rapists, murderers, and child molesters out of jail, and they can go live in Hugh's neighborhood, or any Dem., since they are all about COMPASSION (for child molesters).
What about the victims?
By the way, I travel to Asheville all the time, and it can be freak central sometimes due to the large population of retro-hippies enjoying our beautiful mountains. Go out to Pack Square or the park near Left Bank restaurant and you will see a veritable cornucopia of freakazoids who look like they haven't had a shave, or a shower, for days--double for the women.

In other words, if he were a Republican activist, he would be held to account if he broke the law (or even if he didn't break the law) and no one would make excuses for him.
