Charlie Rangel won't stop talking about the draft. It gets his mug on TV and allows him to hear himself talk. I also think he's going on the theory that if people hear his drum beat about the draft enough times then maybe they'll start to believe it. He was on Fox News today pushing his draft idea when he, unsurprisingly, managed to insult our troops in the process. Hot Air has the video. This is what Charlie said:
I want to make it abundantly clear: if there's anyone who believes that these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it. No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communities of very, very high unemployment. If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.
So according to Rep. Rangel, those who are in the military must be there because they're losers who can't get decent careers. Nice, Charlie.
This is on the heals of his appearance on CNN in which he offered a garbled argument about Iraq not being a legitimate war because people aren't drawn by patriotism to volunteer for national security reasons but instead are lured by incentives. Yeah, I know. My head hurts from just writing it.

John Kerry was the Engineer, and Murtha the Conductor on the Peace Train, eh?
Kinda like the little engine that kept saying, "I know we can't, I know we can't..."
If I thought this poor senile, or is it two-faced slime-of-the-earth-politician was worth believing, I'd be really insulted.
Let me put it in words he might understand: "So I cut and run from a high paying job in the private world to spend 9 years of government military service 'cause I'm a loser? And all the folks coming home in boxes, or on a Medi-Evac flight from Landstuhl are losers too? The ones losing here are the folks like Rangel, Murtha and Kerry, and the poor losers that believe their tripe. And America if we let their attitudes and ideas resonate without challenge."

Now i'm beginning to doubt Rabid Rangel's military service. Did he receive a dis-honorable discharge like Jon Karry? If you ever visit D.C. don't drink from the water fountains used by the dim's. Something in the water is making them crazy. Ooop's forgot, BDS naturally progresses to insanity.
Pity the senile man, but pity the stupid fools that vote for him more.

I joined for the educational benefits. That's why I'm in college now. I joined because it was the best option for me. Is there a better reason to enlist? People should join because they choose to, not because they're forced to.

from what I read, Rangel served with the US Army from 1948-52 and is a Korean Vet (Purple heart and Bronze star)
While I honor his military service, I find his calls for the draft as disengenous at best.
He is NOT interested in facts, nor in the health of the US military. He wants a draft because he missing the protests of the Vietnam era ... changing mobs, burning draft cards and hatred poured onto returning soldiers from overseas.
The man has lost his moral compass.

Tomorrow morning I am driving down to Fort Benning, GA to watch my son graduate from Basic Training.
He gave up quite a bit to join. We live in a resort town, we have a great business that he was a part of and it will be passed on to him someday. He took a big pay cut and because he joined a combat arms MOS for 4 years, he is likely to see combat and not in a REMF position either.
The troops are stupid or poor or both have been pushed by lefties to sooth their own fears of military service and that is what I see Rangel doing by playing on their fears. (Hence the lefty denial that there is even a war on terror)
How many troops has Rangel talked to? How many times has he visited them in theater or CONUS for that matter to come to his conclusions?
This is one of those cases when I read something where I must decide, do I believe a lying propagandas Democrat or my own lying eyes.

Rangel is a moron. My husband joined the Navy out of high school, not because he was poor, or stupid, or couldn't go to college. He joined because he WANTED to. So did his younger brother. My husband (a successful electrical engineer) remarked about a month ago that if he was younger he'd consider re-enlisting. Rangel is just another politician who is absolutely out of touch with the real world.

Actually, Mr. Rangel it is POLITICIANS that can't have a decent career. What are your major milestones Mr. Rangel besides once being a Marine??? How many of you and your fellow politicians are taking bribes? How many are convicted felons? How many of your fellow congressmen have filed Chapter 11? How many have failed in the private sector? Jeez, give me a break.
