"They're trying to fool you. They're trying to scare you and they're not telling the truth," a fired-up Obama declared while campaigning in South Dakota. "But it's not going to work. Both Bush and McCain represent the failed foreign policy and fear mongering of the past," Obama said. "I believe the American people are ready to reject this approach and to choose the future."

Ed has a valid and logical point. Like many issues that people get their noses out of joint over, the facts should be enough to raise concern without having to make stuff up. That's what we're always criticizing the lefties for. Now we have Rep. Steve King proving he's no better.

Ed has a valid and logical point. Like many issues that people get their noses out of joint over, well documented facts should be enough to raise concern without having to make stuff up and take wild guesses. I do know we're pretty quick to refute data given us on Iraqi deaths and yet, strangely enough, many will easily accept the results of an "estimate" based on "no federal statistics" just because it bolsters a preconceived view.
If anyone else has something more concrete, I'd like to see it.

According to the Bureau of Justice, http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/homicide/intimates.htm, over 114 poeple a day are killed by their spouses.
So, logically if we deport all illegal aliens and get rid of marriage we will save the lives of 46,152 people a year.
Hey! Did you also know that most car accidents occur within two miles of your home? So, if you only drive one mile a day you will reduce the chances of getting into an accident.
Do I need to go on?

The point is the ones you list are a problem but it's still legal to drive and get married.
We can save 12 Americans a day by getting rid of ILLEGAL ALIENS!

Vagabond,
The point is that these statistics are meaningless.
We should deport illegal aliens not because they are a drain on our social system or because they they are engaged in other crimes. They should be deported because they have broken the law already.
What would be the obverse of this? It would be that if they were all law-abiding citizens, other than being illegal aliens, that we should just let them be.
Some would argue this. I personally think that no one should profit from a crime, no matter how long ago it was committed and no matter how much they have done to fly right since then.
We must have rules if we are to have an orderly society, and these rules must be followed--even when the consequences might lead to tragedy for a few. For example, the case of the law-abiding individual who had to leave his wife and son in Utah when he was deported, http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,615152228,00.html.

Actually, this, as you've stated it, would likely hold true (i.e. I'd wager time on road shows positive correlation to likelihood of accident). :)
To the point, the statistics of interest would be the number of homicides committed per 100,000 illegal aliens vs the number of homicides committed per 100,000 citizens.
