I spent all last night cooking and plan to spend most of the day today cleaning house and wrapping gifts for the big family get together tonight, so I don't expect to be back online until after Christmas.
My girls have been fussing and fighting all weekend and last night I told my six year old that she could give Mommy a great gift by not fighting with her sister. She looked up at me and said, "Sorry. We already bought your gift, Mommy. Too bad."
For those interested, last night I made two different kinds of fudge, seven layer squares, gingerbread cookies, a cheese ball, spinach dip, pecan rolo pretzel candies and date balls. I have not had date balls in years. My mom used to make them every Christmas and I made them several years, but haven't in a really long time. I had to call my mom for the recipe. Here it is for anyone interested.
Date balls
1 8 oz. pkg. chopped dates
1 cup sugar
1 stick butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup rice krispies
powdered sugar or flake coconut
Cook butter, sugar and dates in a saucepan over medium heat until melted (about 8-10 min.), stirring frequently. Remove from heat and add vanilla and rice krispies. Form small balls (about 1 inch diameter) and roll in powdered sugar or coconut.
Merry Christmas!

I've tried asking my daughters (8 and 11) for peace at home as a Christmas gift before also. I think the record compliance was 1.5 hours.

Date balls? Reminds me of the famous Marilyn Monroe quotation: "Isn't there any other part of the matzah you can eat?"
I'm going straight to Hell for that one...
Anyway, Merry Christmas, Lorie.

I want that same gift, but have yet to get it in more than 30 second increments.
