CBS' Lara Logan Used Al Qaeda Video in Her Report?

Was she a terrorist propaganda tool? In today's Vent, Michelle Malkin examines the video Lara Logan used for her report and finds it's identical to an al Qaeda propaganda video. Lara says that her video is too important to ignore. I agree but not for the reasons she says.

Here's a still shot captured by Hot Air:

Be sure to read all of Bryan's post in which he explains how he compared the two videos.

What is suspicious is the omission of the al Qaeda logo in the upper left hand corner of the Logan video. This tells me that Logan did not get the video from the al Qaeda web site but probably got it straight from the source.

So what??? Malkin is a slimey slattern who thinks she has some point to prove, usually based on nothing.

What the problem is here, Kim, is that you can't tolerate Logan's reporting because it doesn't line up w/ right looney reporting from fools like Laura Lingam & Michelle Slattern , now experts on Iraq thanks to their "discover it all" Iraqi sojourns.

Logan defends herself here very well.

Kim, you are forever out there looking for the most absurd thin reeds to try to discredit anyone whose reporting conflicts with your Bush-hugging blind loyalty to the US Iraqi catastrophe.

It would be wiser to stay away from MM the Slattern who has a notorious reputation for making up shit from nothing.

Simple mix-up. She's mixing up the video she (and CBS) are taping up for Al-Qaeda with the video she (and CBS) are taping up for US consumption. Someone mislabeled the video. Happens all the time.

I wish I could take credit for the above, but it's from a comment at the link. It would be no surprise to me if it is eventually confirmed that our MSM was collaborating with our enemies.

Your link is to a video of Logan whining about how difficult it is for "journalists" like her to obtain information. It provides zero information about how her supposed original report has video identical to that from al Quaeda.

Frankly, I give a damn what you think of the link.

Sqoozey, I used slattern...look up the definition for "malkin." Actually, "salttern" is pretty tame for what that puike of a blogger really is.

And as to Logan's story abouth the "Battle for Haifa Street," YouTube has a number of vids depicting the battle in action over 3 weeks even, contrary to the assumptions and rampant speculations made in Kim's "Hot Air" link.

The truth of the matter is that the RWB's cannot tolerate reporting like this coming from Baghdad in a locale so near the sacred Green Zone and so reflective of Colin Powell's Pottery Barn advisory given to Bush.

Rather than acknowledge the reality of the situation, muckrakers like MM the Slattern and Laura Lingam go after the sources in order to ignore or deny reality.

What the hell difference does it make that the source of Logan's vid and the source of the AQ vid might be the same? Looks to me like one formerly unemployed Iraqi, thanks to Bush, has gotten himself a lucrative
job using his camcorder. Score 1 for the Bush Iraqi job recovery program.

One way to stiffle debate is to leave out one side's explanation -- just as Kim as done, in leaving out CBS News' response to the allegation that they got the footage for AQ sources. CBS responded yesterday, and rather than include their explanation the breathless (and integrity-less) right-wing blogospshere keeps pushing their lie on the American public.

It's clear who is working against he best interests of the American people, and its bloggers like Kim and Michelle who are attempting to stifle the truth.

I asked CBS News Vice President Paul Friedman about the video.

"I can assure you this was not from Al-Qaeda," said Friedman, who declined to identify the source. "Whenever we can identify the source of information or video, we want to do that," he added. "There are some rare cases when we have to protect the source. In this case, we needed to do so, because it's literally a matter of life and death."

"The fact that same video shows up in more than one place is something that happens every day," said CBS News spokeswoman Sandra Genelius. "We occasionally use video from an Al-Qaeda Web site and we identify it. In this case, we didn't get it from Al-Qaeda, so we didn't identify it as such."

Desperate right-wing liars, pushing their lies and half-truths and preventing their dear readers from seeing and hearing both sides of the discussion. That's one way to stffle debate -- withhold facts and arguments presented by the other side.

This explanation came out yesterday, but for some odd reason CBS's response was left out of every right-wing story on this subject that I've seen, including Malkin's and Priestap's.

If anyone knows of a right-wing blogger who has presented the facts fairly in this issue please publish a link, and prove me wrong.

It's time you learned that all of us have our "betters"--as they used to say back in the small Kansas town I came from. Logan is definitely yours." Did anyone notice the video Puke posted a link to was from MARCH 2006! SAo tell us ASSHAT, how is that a defense of an event that occurred this week defended in a video just short of a year old!

Lee From your quoted C-BS quote: "I can assure you this was not from Al-Qaeda," said Friedman, who declined to identify the source.

HE could be telling the truth couldn't he? However, it's also very possible his "source" obtained the vid from an al-Qaeda operative or sympathizer without the knowledge of C-BS.

Benefit of doubt given.

The problem arises because the controversy has already exploded and it's plain to see when viewed side-by-side the videos are identical.

That raises enough questions that C-BS at this point, and at minimum, should be researching their source not issuing half-assed defenses of the story.

It is entirely unsurprising CBS finds such a source, and refuses to identify it. It is equally unsurprising how the left rushes to their defense.

Here's <a href="http://glen... (Below threshold)

Here's Glenn Greenwald with a long laundry list of lies from the right-wing blogosphere.

Packs of right-wing bloggers spent the last several weeks trying to destroy the credibility of Associated Press's war reporting by claiming that one of its sources, an Iraqi policeman named Jamil Hussein, does not exist, that AP simply invented him. As it turns out -- and as AP itself had the great pleasure of reporting (and then rubbing in the face of its irresponsible, taunting accusers) -- the Iraqi Government, which previously denied it, now acknowledges that Jamil Hussein does exist and he is a police officer in Iraq, just as AP reported accurately.

Greenwald provides update after update which includes many more examples of right-wing bloggers' slimings:

These right-wing bloggers love to piously masquerade around as "media watchdogs," keeping a watchful eye on the "MSM" and compelling them to adhere to facts. And ever since their involvement in the use by Dan Rather of fraudulent documents, and then heightened by Charles Johnson's oh-so-monumental observation that a Reuters photograph of Lebanon had been photoshopped to give the appearance of more smoke during an Israeli air strike on Beirut, the media has largely recited this storyline.

But they are nothing of the sort. Nobody is less interested in media accuracy than they are. Correcting media mistakes is so plainly not their agenda. They are nothing more than hyper-partisan hysterics who jump on any innuendo or rumor or whispered suspicion as long as it promotes their rigid ideological views and political loyalties and hatreds. They have a long, shameful and really quite pitiful history of incidents filled with ones like this Jamil Hussein debacle... [snip]

Lots more at the links above. Malkin and her wanna-be whining slimers are looking really stoopid these days.

Funny how the guy you're holding up as the defender of truth, honesty and the American way (hmmm sounds like Superman) fails to mention Reuters not only replaced the "smoke photo" but severed all ties to the terrorist sympathizer that provided them.

He also fails to mention that photo was only one of dozens provided by the same "reporter" that all were doctored in some way or weren't taken at the time or location described.
