Al Qaeda instructs British terror cells to start kidnapping and beheading people

British MI-5 agents discovered the plot last fall, which led to the arrest of the nine men who plotted to kidnap and behead British Muslim soldiers:

ISLAMIC terror cells in Britain have been instructed to carry out a series of kidnappings and beheadings of the kind allegedly planned by the nine terrorist suspects arrested in Birmingham last week.

The "strategic" assassination instruction was issued by Al-Qaeda's leaders in Pakistan and Iraq to dozens of their followers in this country. It was uncovered by MI5 last autumn, senior security sources say.

As a result police are on standby for multiple attempts by terrorists to kidnap and then behead people across Britain. MI5 is conducting a counter-terrorism surveillance operation to prevent such an attack.

The alleged attempt to kidnap and behead a Muslim soldier or soldiers in Birmingham was just the first of a series of planned attacks, security sources say.

The revelation explains the recent deployment of a permanent SAS unit to London. The unit has been placed on 24-hour standby to respond to a terrorist attack in the capital. It would aim to carry out a hostage rescue mission within minutes of being alerted.

Muslim police officers serving in London may also be given extra protection. The Association of Muslim Police is in talks with the Met, which is expected to carry out a risk assessment of the dangers.

One well placed source said: "Cells in the UK have been alerted to carry out this type of attack as opposed to the more sophisticated type of bombing in which you place a large number of volunteers at risk. All you need for a beheading is a bit of courage and a sharp knife."

The order to encourage "low-tech" assassinations is said to follow a review by senior Al-Qaeda planners after an alleged plot to smuggle bombs onto airlines was foiled by police last August.

There has been so much infighting going on here in the US about the war in Iraq (the Dems call it debate) that it is not out of the realm of possibility that al Qaeda will issue similar orders to its sleeper cells here while those who are supposed to be protecting us are distracted. With the left and the media working overtime to weaken our citizens' and leaders' resolve to fight the war in Iraq, our country may in a tired enough and defeatist state to make it ripe for al Qaeda attacks.

Jules Crittendon sees the same possibility:

Reporting on the developments in the UK suggests the focus is on Muslims who collaborate with the hated Crusaders ... Muslims who are British soldiers and cops. It is only a matter of time before they turn their attention to the United States and "low-tech" operations here. And it is only a matter of time before they expand their list of beheading candidates to other sectors of the population. The Times article also discusses plans for vehicle-borne fertilizer bombs. If you've grown numb to the horrific death toll in Baghdad marketplaces ... 130 killed by a pickup truck bomb here, 65 killed by a car bomb there ... think about one of those things coming through the glass doors of your local supermarket or mall.

All of which is another reason why it is important to keep al-Qaeda busy and to keep killing terrorists in Afghanistan and Iraq ... and to step up operations in Waziristan, local sensitivities notwithstanding.

Closer to home, the question is, are you ready for it? Do you think your local cops and the FBI are? The Brits have deployed the SAS. Do you figure we have sufficient counterterrorism forces ready to go?

The media and the Democrats have criticized and tried to shut down a number of Bush administration counterterrorism programs that gave our local authorities the ability to track and stop the terrorists communicating inside the US. Remember Harry Reid proudly announcing "we killed the Patriot Act"? Who exactly is the "we" that Reid is talking about? None other than Reid himself along with the other Democrats in the Senate. Let's not forget the NYT, the Washington Post, USA Today, and other news outlets exposing and, therefore, making virtually useless the NSA terrorist surveillance program, the SWIFT money transfer program, the CIA prisons, and the telephone data bank. How are these folks going to explain themselves to the American people when, after al Qaeda successfully detonates a bomb at a grocery store or kidnaps and beheads Americans here on our soil, the American people demand to know why the US government didn't know about the plot and stop it?

I'd like to expand on my previous comments and offer this scenario: President Bush has tried to use as many tactics as possible to prevent another terrorist attack on our country; however, the Democrats with the help of the willing media, threatened President Bush with censure and worse, impeachment, claiming that all he was interested in doing was curtailing American citizens' civil rights. They accused him of lying to the American people; they compared him to Hitler and his policies to Nazism. But, someday if and/or when we are attacked by terrorists on American soil, these same Democrats along with willing media will accuse him of knowing about the attacks in advance and doing nothing to prevent it. They will then threaten Bush with impeachment, again, claiming that he failed to fulfill his duty to protect the American people, even though they, to this very day, have been the ones trying so hard to tie his hands behind his back in fight on the war on terror.

Little Green Footballs links to British tabloid article about the beheading plot that reports that al Qaeda told its terrorists that if they couldn't find a British Muslim soldier that any "squaddie will do."

The 9/11 Commission Report ... (Below threshold)

The 9/11 Commission Report said we shoulda woulda coulda done this, that and the other thing and 9/11 wouldn't have happened. So, the Bush administration goes about trying to do this, that and the other thing to keep another horrific attack from happening, and all the same whiny-ass crybabies that screamed shortly after 9/11 and again after the Commission report that Bush shoulda woulda coulda (and only Bush, Clinton is not to be held accountable for his 8 years on watch), now are screaming that Bush can't do all those things! It's illegal, it's unconstitutional! It makes me feel all icky!

So following this pattern, after the next attack in which American lives are lost, we will be treated to "Bush shoulda woulda coulda done all those things that we screamed that he shouldn't be doing, yet should have done before 9/11 and then all this would never have happened!"

Right?

Correct, it's not "out of the realm of possibilities", but then AQ not attacking on U.S. soil for a long, long time is also "not out of the realm of possibilities."

AQ seems to still be effective at frightening conservatives into acting against the best interests of this country, and with the conservatives dancing at the end of the AQ puppet strings, the need for another attack on the U.S. is reduced.

The undying hatred of the populous and they were also highly mistrusted by the very people that they collaborated with.

A very good example of this is the aforementioned Quisling. The Germans abandoned him to the tender mercies of the Norwegian people when they left Norway at the end of WW2. We all know what happened to him.

The Soviet Union did this to some degree here in this country, the Rosenbergs, Alger Hiss, Aldrich Ames and the Walkers, but they were ferreted out before they could complete their plans. George Bush knew that things were getting worse back then, (McCain knew it) but Bush decided to lie about the situation and our prospects in Iraq from back then in 2003 until just after November 7, 2006, a period encompassing two national elections.

To try to paint it as some sort of weird scheme for Bush and his pals to take over the world is beyond insane. (So, Pinky ... what are we going to do today? Take over the world!) So put down the koolaid, take off the tinfoil beanie and pick up a history book. Turn to the chapter that covers late 1979. There you will find the first events that happened in the war that has been declared upon us by these Islamotards.

Bush is just the first president with the balls to do something about it. He just needs to quit pandering to the PC crowd and bleeding heart liberals, both in regards to our porous borders and the fight against Islamofascists and go the full measure against the terrorists.

It shows their efforts are being rewarded.

This is no civil war. Its an attempt to create anarchy and bloodshed for media consumption pure and simple. There is no other tactical effort needed for their success. The plan is to engage political forces within the US to force withdrawal from Iraq before an Iraqi government is self-sufficient. Then whatever external forces that dare can step in and fill the vacuum.

Measures like this bill, whether the intentions of the sponsors are treasonous or not, are doing the work of our enemies for them. Which is treason. And suicidal.

If I wanted to refer to the 50s and 60s, and events that took place then, and in other places, I would have.

HOWEVER, I am referring to events that involved the USA and Islamofascism.

If you don't learn anything from history, you'll keep making the same stupid mistakes over and over again.

In order to understand the 1979 event, you have to have a bit more curiosity about the history of that country.

In the early 1950's Iran had a democraticaly elected government. In 1953, the CIA (yes, our CIA) under President Dwight Eisenhower and in conjunction with the Brittish Government undertook Operation Ajax. Ajax was a covert operation run by Kermit Roosevelt based out of the Iranian embassy and was intended to stir up violence in order to overthrow the democraticly elected government. Hundreds were killed during this operation.

The whole point of this was to prop up the petroleum intrests of the gasolene company that you know today as BP (Brittish Petroleum), and for our involvement we got a piece of the oily pie.

We propped up the Shah of Iran, who ruled until 1979. His rule became more and more cruel and autocratic and the uprising and return of the Ayatollah was the end result.

In 1979 embassy personel were seized by the Iranian students because the embassy was thought of as a base for CIA spies trying to overthrow the revolutionary government.

Now, LissaKay - here's the funny part! That's exactly what it had been in the 1950's when it overthrew the democraticaly elected government. They seem to have a much better grasp of history than you do.

Assumption here on my part, but the CIA probably didn't pack up and leave after it's puppet government was in place, more so quite the opposite. My guess is there was a whole bunch of spying going on over the years.

The students threatened to try the hostages in Islamic Revolutionary court. Eventualy after over 400 days all were finaly released, none killed as a result of the Algiers declaration.

Finaly, the US has not to date followed through on it's obligation under Algiers that it owes to Iran.

So, you see, it wasn't just crazed Islamofascists grabbing poor innocient hostages on a whim. The truth is a bit more complex, and we set the stage with all kinds of murder and mayhem and intrigue.

They're busy alright. Have you seen the news from Iraq lately? They're busy recruiting new members to fight our occupation and training the ones who are already in Iraq who to conduct terrorist operations and attack US soldiers.

Iraq has been the greatest boon to Al Qaeda in its history. They were on the way out after the Afghan campaign but they've been given new life because of Iraq. George Bush broke Iraq into a million pieces and handed the keys to Al Qaeda. Brilliant. No doubt we will be paying the price for that in terrorism here on our own soil in years to come.

I referenced 1979 as being the first direct strike against the USA by Islamic terrorists.

I did not refer to anything prior to that because that was not the point.

I was responding to the assertion that terrorism is somehow an invention of the Bush administration and only exists to create fear among the populace, by pointing out that there were prior strikes well before Bush was elected to office. (And just FYI ... I did not vote to put Bush into office).

Need more examples?

Since 1979 we have been attacked, bombed, and our citizen taken hostage over and over. In 1983, the Beirut embassy was bombed killing 63 people. A few months later, they hit the main gate of the US Marine Corps headquarters with 2500 lbs of explosives and killed 241 US servicemen.

Two months later, another truck loaded with explosives blows up in the US Embassy in Kuwait. September 1984 - the US Embassy in Beirut. April 1985 - Madrid. August 1985 - the main gate if the US Air Force Base in Rhein-Main ... 22 killed. That same year, the Achille Lauro was hijacked. One American was singled out, shot as he sat in his wheelchair and then his body dumped into the ocean.

Then they started messing with our airliners ... TWA Flight 840 in April 1986 and the tragic Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland which killed 259 people. In January 1993 they finally struck within the borders of the US when two CIA agents were shot and killed outside CIA headquarters in Langley, VA. The first strike on the WTC came the following month when a van loaded with explosives was set off in the underground parking garage. Over 1000 were injured, 6 died.

June 1996 saw an attack on a US military compound in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, which killed 19 and injured over 500. Shortly after, a coordinated attack was carried out on the US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania resulting in the loss of 224 lives.

October 2000 the USS Cole, docked in Aden, Yemen, was the target of a suicide attack when a small boat exploded next to it killing 17 sailors.

Lissa Kay: But the 1979 hostage-takers cited 1953 as a CARDINAL point (among others) in their take-over of the US embassy. Do you think they said, "WTF! Let's all take over the US embassy for shits and giggles?" 1979 and 1953 seems like a lifetime apart to us, but it was the very first chance for the people of Iran to protest the overthrow of a popular leader (Mossadegh), even if it was that long removed from the event itself. You have to remember, or realize: the Shah had become increasingly fascistic over the years (to the dismay of the US, e.g.Nixon, Ford,Carter) and had suspended the right to free association. And the worse, Palahvi (the shah), became, the more vivid(relatively, to us!) the freely-elected Mossadegh became as a symbol of self-determination and pride to an oppressed people. Not oppressed by us directly, but by the Shah. And the US had a hand in placing him there. If you want a vetted, establishment, right wing view of these events, check out Paul Johnson's "Modern Times". He's a contributor to NRO (for gawd's sake!) and the book won a Pulitzer Prize.

(1) The liberals complained about the US supporting "dictators" like the Shah in Iran. But they didn't seem to have any problems with the far worse Mullahs now in power. The liberals are even trying to make excuse for them. The same in the cold war. The liberal left basically served as a propaganda front for the evil communists in the West. The liberals are willing to sell out the poor and oppressed in the communist countries to further their socialistic agenda. In other words, the left is only have problems with dictators that are not against the US. They will ignore and excuse the problems with their communist or socialist brethren. These people are willing to ignore the threat of the Soviet Union trying to dominate the world in 1953. In their distorted or ignorant view, the US simply went to Iran to fulfill its imperial ambition. They totally ignored the threat from the Soviet Union. Then they claim they know history, what a joke.

(2) Now Bush changed the policy of not coddling dictators any more and push for democracy, the liberals suddenly don't find democracy important. They want Saddam back in power.

The liberals can not be honest. This thread is just another example of the intellectual/moral sewage of the liberal left.
