Hillary hasn't even won the Democratic nomination but already some are discussing who should take her place in the Senate. That's just a smidgen premature, don't you think? But that's only half of the story. If Hillary Clinton wins the presidency in 2008, a few Democrats and pundits speculate that her on again/off again husband could be appointed to fulfill the rest of her term as Senator from New York. From The Examiner:
WASHINGTON - If Hillary Rodham Clinton wins the presidency, some top Democrats would like to see her husband, former President Bill Clinton, appointed to serve out Hillary's unexpired Senate term.
"As a senator, he'd be a knockout," said Harold Ickes, who was once a top White House aide to Bill Clinton and now gives behind-the-scenes advice to Hillary. "He knows issues, he loves public policy and he's a good politician."Some Democrats and political analysts say Bill Clinton would thrive in the world's greatest deliberative body, much like Lyndon Johnson did before he became president.
"President Clinton would excel in the Senate," said Paul Begala, who helped Bill Clinton get elected and served in the White House as a top aide.
"Why not?" Begala added. "He excelled as attorney general and governor of Arkansas, he excelled as president and he's been a model of the modern Senate spouse."
Larry Sabato, director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, agreed.
"Clinton is a natural for the Senate," Sabato said. "He loves to talk and schmooze. He could be a great vote-organizer. Majority Leader Clinton?"
Such a scenario is not beyond the realm of possibility now that the governor's mansion in New York is occupied by a Democrat, Eliot Spitzer, who succeeded Republican Gov. George Pataki last month. If Hillary Clinton wins the White House, Spitzer would likely appoint a fellow Democrat to take over her Senate seat.
You'd think from the way Begala, Ickes, and Sabato are talking, Hillary's ascension to the throne of the Democratic nomination is a certainty; the primary process just a formality now. The only uncertainty is who will take her place once she does win. We know how the Clinton political machine works. To ensure Hillary wins, eventually all other Democratic hopefuls are going to be told to take one for the party (i.e. the Clintons) and bow out so as to give Her Royal Highness the nomination.

They should keep pushing this idea hard. The combination of Hillary in the White House and Bill in the Senate will do more to motivate the right than anything any GOP candidate could do or say.

This only reenforces the fact that something is wrong with all New Yorkers. They have to import two hillbillies from Arkansas to run the state. You see a car with NY license plates, stay away from it, they have proven themselves mentally ill.
That was the fun part, now what is really wrong with the people of NY that they would even consider, must less do such a thing? I thought only those from LA were brain dead from breathing poison auto emissions.

There's a lot of 'mythology' surrounding the Clintons and things they've done. Their politics and standards are good enough reason to reject them. The rest is unnecessary.
However, at timese like this, there's one piece of mythology that seems to be possibly real. The story of the 700 FBI files. Only by having the dirt on hundreds of high profile figures in Washington can the Clintons have any chance of being relavent politically.
If the Republicans pick a sure loser, I'll be convinced it real and they have the dirt on both sides of the isle.

If Hillary wins, perhaps we can use the term "First Lady's Man" or even "First Ladiesman." In any case, it seems unlikely to me that Governor Spitzer will have any interest in appointing Bill as Senator. He's more likely to appoint someone who helped him win his present office or someone whose appointment might help him win reelection.

nogo may be right about Dodd. His Chairmanship of the Senate Banking Committee gives him a door-opener to many of the deepest-pocketed companies and political fundraisers around. The early measure of viability for candidates in both parties is thought to be the ability to raise $10 million by this June, and Dodd could do it.
I doubt Bill Clinton would want to serve in the Senate. It would be quite a slide down the power pole from CinC to one of a hundred Senators. The schedule would confine him and the rules would inhibit his easy source of income through speeches. It isn't as if he needs any office to stay in the public eye. As First Gentleman, he would have that without the downside.
Floating the rumor, though, can only boost Hillary's campaign. Bill is still the most popular Democrat in the party. Anything which leads primary voters to think about him helps Hillary's chances, if only slightly.

Btw, yes I understand the line of succession argument, but its absurd to think it applies here. I've never heard anyone argue that the 22nd Amendment would preclude anyone from holding an office other than Vice President, and even that is iffy, let alone an office not even in the line of succession. Let's have a look at that line:
Vice President and President of the Senate
Speaker of the House of Representatives
President pro tempore of the Senate
Secretary of State
Secretary of the Treasury
Secretary of Defense
Attorney General
Secretary of the Interior
Secretary of Agriculture
Secretary of Commerce
Secretary of Labor
Secretary of Health and Human Services
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development
Secretary of Transportation
Secretary of Energy
Secretary of Education
Secretary of Veterans Affairs
Secretary of Homeland Security
Where on that list do you see "Junior Senator from the State of New York?"

"Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) said during a campaign stop in South Carolina today that the Confederate flag should be removed from certain state grounds, reports the Associated Press.
Clinton made the case that while at war, the nation "should have one flag that we all pay honor to"
Doesn't she know..we defeated the terrorists who sought to destroy our Union..ah back in 1865...

Wrong. The statutory list is 17 positions long. Only the Speaker and Pres. pro temp are in the line.
Even if you were correct about the line of succession, your assertion is still absurd. Guess what happens when someone in the line above is not a natural-born citizen (like Carlos Gutierrez or Elaine Chao)? They're ineligible and you just move to the next seat on the list. Any reason why you couldn't do that if you were correct about Clinton possibly being in the line of succession, which in any case you are not?
