For once, I don't have to wander south of the border for a couple of dumb criminal stories. We have a couple right here in New Hampshire.
I don't have much use for "historical re-enactors." Recreating battles and other significant events in history strikes me as a colossal waste of time, but for the most part it's harmless and it doesn't bother me much.
But there are some things that really shouldn't be revisited. Say, for example, the Watergate break-in. But that didn't stop some enterprising idiots over in Concord, who busted into the state Democratic Party headquarters...
But let's leave the past alone. Let's move into a more contemporary problem -- sexual predators on the 'net. We also have another story of someone turning to the internet to find a teenaged boy for sex.
Gee, what a surprise. The "victim" turned out to be, of all things, a cop. I never would have seen that one coming. Why, it's ingenious and novel. I'm surprised that no one had ever heard of this sort of thing happening before.
But this story has a bit of a twist. It turns out the would-be predator was also lying about their identity. It seems that he isn't a 14-year-old boy, but 17.
He's still being charged as an adult.
It's not quite as odd as the story of a couple of Florida teenagers who took pictures of themselves doing naughty things with each other. (In that incredibly bizarre case, they're being tried as adults who took the pictures -- but children as the subjects of them. While it's been said that "the camera adds ten pounds," apparently being behind the lens adds a couple of years.) So we have a ways to go to catch up with the rest of the country.
We're working on it, though. Give us time.

This goes out to you Mr. Monomaniacal Moron..
For only...it, I guess...could be so monomoronically see a puff piece about the law being an ass as an attempt to distract True America from the Real Cost™ of the War on Terror.
Only you can mess up a comment thread about hooters and the women who have them with an extemporaneous comment about how dead soldiers never get to see bewbies again.
Only you can take the people who post at DU and KOS seriously.
Only you...
Thank you, Mr. Monomanical Moron, this Bud Light is for you!

Apparently nogo punctuation mark missed my two earlier, lengthy, detailed pieces involving Congress and the Iraq war...
Nope, he didn't. He commented on at least one of them. Maybe it's some of that "drain bamage" people keep talking about...
Tell ya what, nogo: you start paying me to blog, then you can dictate what I write about. Until then, I'll write about whatever strikes me as inspirational. Sound fair?

man, the florida case, only a lawyer could explain that one and have it make sense....to other lawyers. adults AND children, both in the same body? makes my head hurt trying to understand that. Of course, 30 years ago the punishment would have been to write a 100 times on the blackboard "I will not play doctor with susie next door."

Don't you just love the gloss over of the break-in at the NH Dem campaign hdqtrs as a problem to "leave the past alone"?
Of course there is no story here. Nothing to do with American elections.

cb, in case you missed it, I gave the Republican phone-jamming scandal here in NH fairly consistent coverage, and called for far harsher penalties than the courts eventually settled on. I am fiercely militant about those who ass around with our electoral process.
That being said, this break-in is NOT likely some grand conspiracy. I strongly suspect it's run-of-the-mill, non-political crime or some idiots looking to cause trouble. When they're caught, I want 'em pounded into the dirt.
But the whole point is that this was a stupid, asinine incident, a mediocre re-run of Watergate at best. So I'm going to mock it a little.

I cant believe all of the stories about sexual predators on the net. And I cant believe the story about the 14 year old boy! OMG. Predators on the internet need to be stopped. And parents should know what their kids are doing on the net- netsmartz411 is a great resource. They all need to use it.
