The state of Massachusetts has a problem. In the raid last week at the Michael Bianco Inc. factory in New Bedford, a couple hundred suspected illegal aliens were detained. It turns out that a lot of the detainees had children, and as of Saturday state officials were still trying to find temporarly homes for about 100 of these kids.
And yesterday, Ted Kennedy had a column in the Boston Herald, announcing that "the system" had failed these families.
It's very painful for me to admit, but Ted Kennedy is right. The system did fail these families.
It failed them when it allowed them to freely cross our border.
It failed them when it allowed them to cross state borders and travel to Massachusetts.
It failed them when it allowed them to apply for jobs at the Michael Bianco Inc. factory with fake documents -- or, perhaps, no documents at all.
It failed them when it granted millions in federal contracts to the Michael Bianco Inc. factory without inspecting the plant and making sure it was compliant with the laws.
The first time the system did not fail them was when it finally caught up with them and arrested them, finally bringing them justice.
Let's be honest. Literally from the instant these people entered the United States, they have done everything they can to avoid any sort of government contact. The fact that, now that the government has caught up with them, that very same governmetn cannot instantly address every concern and need that they may have is, largely, the fault of those people, and not the government.
This is not to say that the government doesn't have the duty to find these children, and do all it can to make sure they are provided for. But it is equally incumbent on the parents of these children to cooperate with federal officials in locating these children, and -- where possible -- helping them find relatives or friends who can care for these children while the parents are detained. The situation these children find themselves is not the making of the children, or the government, but solely that of these parents.
Ted Kennedy -- who has been in the United States Senate since before I was born -- has made immigration a key focus of his career, and has been wrong since the beginning. He was a key backer of the 1965 Hart-Celler Immigration and Nationality Act, which he promised "will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs." At the time, there were about a million illegal aliens in the United States. By the time we needed the 1986 Immigration Reform Act, there were about 10 million illegals. Now best estimates peg it around 20 million.
In the same period where the illegal immigration population increased 2000%, the total population of the United States rose 50%. In other words, since Ted Kennedy helped pass that "immigration reform act," the ratio of illegal aliens to citizens has increased from 1/200 to 1/15.
And now Ted Kennedy is in charge of the Senate committee responsible for immigration issues.
God help the United States.

Jay, you nailed this one real good. But the bleeding-hearts will want our taxpayer money to help them. But this won't stop the illegals coming here until the CEO'S, CFO's, and owners are hit with huge fines and jail time.
I feel sorry for the kids, as they had no choice/voice in the matter, but the parents are suppose to be responsible for the kids, not you and me and other taxpayers.
Ted Kennedy is one of the few, from both parties that need to retire. The old ones that have made a living that long on the public dole needs to be gone.

I wish there was a political party that truly opposed illegal immigration and would enforce our laws. They would get my vote. Unfortunately, the Republicans have let us all down. Ted Kennedy has been wrong for so long he don't wanna be right.

Add Patrick into your riff on Kennedy (or do one completely separate, patrick is like a comedy routine). It is shocking that the governor of this state was quick to rush to the press and say it wasn't his fault that the raid occurred. Implying that he would not have upheld our laws or sovereignty over our state. Come one, come all, no laws for you, you poor dears. It reminds one of a class of children claiming they weren't the ones caught "doing the bad thing", only in this case our Governor was not caught protecting our state and upholding our laws!

Couple of notes:
All women were interviewed about children, examined for lactation and if they told ICE about children or were lactating, they were released. If they lied, they were detained.
Does Mass have laws against sweatshops? Why was the state ot looking into charging the owner?

Here's the plan... Load the IAs and their children on buses, convoy down to the Mexican border, stop at McDonalds for a couple of Big Macs (to Go), Hand each person a Franklin as they get off the bus(in Mexico), "Adios, Come back when LEGAL!!" Much cheaper in the long run...

Here's another simple plan to rid ourselves of illegal workers. Have the FBI interview suspected illegal workers and the first question they are asked is "are you in this country legally" and if they say yes drill down into the details. The interview needs to be on video and witnessed. Because it's a felony to lie to the FBI (as Martha Stewart and Libby have discovered), illegal workers who attempt to hide that fact from the FBI can and should be prosecuted for a felony. If convicted, they should be given a stay if they are willing to pack-up themselves and their family and go back to their nation of origin. If they come back they serve their sentence. The reason getting felony convictions on illegal workers is important is because even liberals have not gone so far as to include felons in amnesty bills. However, the real solution is to privatize immigration enforcement as I have laid out here many times.
Question: If environmental groups can sue the Federal government to force it to enforce environmental laws, why can't citizen groups sue the Federal government to force it to enforce immigration laws?

How many of you are aware that emigration legal or ilegal is a product of US Foreign Policy, North Americans should educated themselves better before giving their opinion. While you enjoy your fruit and vegetalbes, maybe you will like to know that it is because of the cheap labor that your corporations pay here and abroad. Also by employing children under 18. read Harvest of Shame from the National Labor Committe so you can have a better understanding of the situation. North americans are very good people and I know that if you really will know what is going on you will not stand for it
