Gathering of Eagles

Michelle Malkin was at the Gathering of Eagles counter-protest in DC today, and she has a post up in which she details what she saw. Here's a portion:

It was a breath-taking, historic, and emotional day in Washington, D.C. You won't know it if you tune in to the usual MSM channels. But new media--bloggers, conservative documentarians, Internet activists, FReepers, citizen journalists, photojournalists, and talk radio hosts--turned out in full force to participate and cover the Gathering of Eagles counter-protest. Thousands upon thousands turned out despite freezing temperatures and hairy travel conditions. We met bikers who drove up all night from Huntsville, Alabama; a retired NYC firefighter who arrived here at 2am; college students who traveled from Massachusetts; a Vietnam veteran's wife who bought plane tickets at the last minute from San Francisco; and countless participants who arrived as part of Move America Forward's cross-country caravan.

A pure, grass-roots effort, the Gathering of Eagles' volunteers matched the massive Soros-funded anti-war machine sign for sign, chant for chant, and marcher for marcher. The contrast was most stark right before the entrance to the Memorial Bridge, where Eagles gathered with a field of American flags--while anti-Bush, 9/11 conspiracy nuts wrapped themselves in a figurative blanket of yellow "Out of Iraq" placards. Several of the vets shouted, "Yellow! How appropriate!" in between spirited chants of "U.S.A! U.S.A!" While the classless Cindy Sheehan ranted profanely, the Eagles raised their voices in polite, but roaring disapproval and raised their American flags in answer to the ANSWER socialists' Che banners and peace pennants.

Why did the Eagles come? One common refrain: Vietnam veterans, some fighting back tears, told us they came to show the kind of support for the troops that they did not receive when the surrender lobby marched on the Pentagon 40 years ago today.

Mission accomplished.

I highly recommend clicking on over and reading the rest of her post. She also includes many photos of some of the veterans who braved the bitter cold to show support for our troops and the war.

the National Parks Service called with their official estimate of the Eagle turn-out today...30,000!
...
The truth is that we outnumbered them by at least three to one!

Reality:
Police no longer give official estimates but said privately that perhaps 10,000 to 20,000 anti-war demonstrators marched, with a smaller but still sizable number of counterprotesters also out in force.

Same old, same old.

My favorite story about the lefty protesters was one in San Francisco a few years back. The libs were getting tired of hearing (the truth) about their (lower than expected) numbers so they hired a aerial photographer to do an accurate estimated count. Well, the guy they hired had their numbers at way below expectations, so I hear they fired him or something.

Ahhhhh, Liberals. Well, at least they make us laugh.

Just watched the local news on our Nothing But Crap (NBC) outlet. They showed the brain dead freaks and bragged about the numbers but gave less than 5 seconds to the thousands of patriotic American that displayed the American Flag with pride. I guess the entire democrat party has flipped from BDS to insanity since they showed scene after scene of the Chicken Sh** yellow cut and run signs.
The local station got an immediate email from me and a wish for their rapid bankruptcy to go with some of the major antique MSM outlets. I expect a defensive answer with a lot of but, but's in it. Their IQ has to be low enough to classify them as morons. The local CBS station here already broadcast the FOX local news (at the same time as FOX) since they're so broke they can't afford they're own local news reporters. May NBC soon join them.

It was a proud day for America and American Veterans with thousands of people showing up in the cold miserable weather to support the troops and America. Way to go, Gathering of Eagles.

Just read the LA Slimes account of the demonstration and they didn't just get it wrong, they flat out lied. Why does anyone buy one of the Slime sheets unless you own a lot of birds and need cage liners. Be careful though, some birds are really smart and may read a few line of the Slimes and need mental health treatment like the left wing kooks. Na, even a Doo Doo bird is smarter than a democrat and will reconize BS when they see it.

Scrapiron, an organization calling itself "A Gathering of Eagles" is clearly an inside joke at the expense of Sofa Samurais from coast to coast too risk-averse or otherwise useless to sign on the dotted line and take the oath, yet wanting to Pretend, or at un-evolved vets and others still living in the last century, still imagining we're living under the Old Constitution. Like the abominable Victory Caucus, this is not an organic movement. To the PR flaks, it's just an ACCOUNT. Think Darren Stevens, but without Samantha's twinkling nose.

jhow666: I'll assume the word DRAW and its usage drew the first blank stare from you. According to Bushmedia chatter of the proceeding week, the prospect of a paint-spattered Vietnam Memorial was the inevitable result of any Iraq War protest. This SUPPOSED GOAL ascribed to the "kooks", was an invention of the Pro War advance men. A recruiting device and something for Bushmedia to divert attention away from Plamegate, Gonzogate, and Jeb Bush's ties to the faulty NOLA flood pumps that the Corps of Engineers spent tax money on. Instead, when the Assault on Decency failed to materialize, we wind up with the unremarkable Dueling Picket Lines, and well-meaning conservatives crossing pork swords with well-meaning radicals. Whose is bigger, longer? Nobody really cares and it was only yesterday. "KABUKI" is a stylized play where what you see is agreed upon by all, to be other than it is. Even the "Eagles" term is a conceit, as is the "bronze" and "silver medal" catagories the donor$ are wooed by. I would suggest the following catagories of giving (in ascending order: 1)Cheetos 2)Fritos 3)Doritos 4)Frito-Bandito (Combat), and 5)Ruffles with Ridges (Combat)

Yes, my error. Though Malkin's "volunteers matched the massive Soros-funded anti-war machine sign for sign, chant for chant, and marcher for marcher" deserves similar derision.

Why should we believe ABC News is more reliable than the National Parks Service?

You're comparing the wrong organizations. If the NPS announced the numbers themselves, I'd believe them. But those numbers were released by the Gathering of Eagles, not the NPS.

What kind of bovine excrement is that?

Yea ok sure. Whatever you say. But honestly for that PR ploy to work the peace at all costs crowd must have had inside information Plame would testify this week.

Don'tcha think? The peaceniks planned their march months ago hairbrain and it coincided with the 40th anniversary of "peace" march in '67.

Oh wait... silly me. They obviously are in cahoots with Plame and Waxman. Yea that's it.

And BTW, not sure about your PR firm assertion but I ask you whats worse, a protest in support of U.S. objectives run by a pr firm...

Or the delusional peace-at-all-costs crowd that marchs to international answer's piper and in doing so align themselves with an organization with communist connections?

OK, so there was a protest and a counterprotest. Lots of people came. There is no accurate count, only claims from both sides, so arguing numbers is purely a rhetorical exercise. Can anyone seriously claim that whatever happened in DC in any way alters the overwhelming, and growing, MAJORITY of Americans who favor a change of strategy in Iraq?

A Gathering of Eagles starring Rock Hudson and Rod Taylor

Rock Hudson plays an Air Force Colonel who has just been re-assigned as a cold war B-52 commander who must shape up his men to pass a grueling inspection that the previous commander had failed, and had been fired for. He is also recently married, and as a tough commanding officer doing whatever he has to do to shape his men up, his wife sees a side (?!!) to him that she hadn't seen before.

The Left can propagandize this all they want but the fact is it was readily apparent the GOE crowd was significantly larger than the anti-war crowd. 4 times I was approached by a reporter and when I stated I was with the GOE group they just stated that wasn't the story they were looking for and walked off.
