bryanD, I like the Thai people very much, there are Thai in my family (among others) with close, er, roots to their homeland.
OTOH all don't get up in arms about silly foreigners (or Americans, for that matter) mocking our leaders, icons, and the like, and I doubt we'll actually get much reaction from them.
Like I said, they aren't likely to have a violent response. . . if any response at all, more like either a disdainful sniff or responsive mischief.
They do have some really skilled computer types over there, though. . .

I lived in Thailand. The funny thing is, the King has almost no DeFacto powers, but because he is so revered by the Thais, his DeJure powers are almost out of sight.
Based on my exposure I think the king will pardon the idiot (The king was born in Mass. so I guess he's a closet liberal) He's very well educated and I suspect this has caused him some embarrassment. Your depiction of him, while made for a point, really does do the man a disservice.
Look, the Thai laws are very clear, I don't have any sympathy for idiots who try to smuggle drugs into Singapore when they are obviously aware they face a certain death sentence. This idiot lived in Thailand for 10 years and is married to a Thai. He was very aware of the laws that he took drunken delight in breaking. I think... the court did postpone the final decision. 10 years jailed is what that Swiss guy thought to be punished. But NOT yet!! correct?
Thai Court is not that harsh for one of the old pity drunkard man.(I really think he was so lucky that he was not killed on sight by someone around there.)
But I really don't understand why? Your Western reporters tried to relate the issue about Thaksin, the Military, Other countries monarch's cases to this story but INTENTIONALLY ignore how sensitive the Thais held about the King issues? OR the facts about the Thai Laws.
I think Westerners always talk about fair deal, freedom, and those beautiful words but what those news presented are absurdly unfair for the Thais.
Let me tell you that the monarch laws that you thought pretty evil for your HOLY world are fully accepted by all Thais. The King has no rights to interfere the Laws.
9 years ago, the Thai people had corrected the country institution but they left the monarch laws still unchanged. Not by the force but macro wills .
Thais respect King because he really had devoted himself for this country. They love their King because of what he acted as a human being not because of the family he was born. If you ever read what this King do for people, you will never talk bad to him.
All the Thais who expressed their anger here, they are the same as you who got angry because of what you don't really understand about the counterpart.
If you want someone to be good with you, why don't you be good with them first? Remove the pic and share ideas as civilized guys.
