Laughter, the best medicine

Earlier, my colleague Lorie posted a link to a video of Karl Rove hamming it up with the veterans of "Whose Line Is It Anyway," one of my all-time favorite shows. The accompanying article also featured extensive quotes from President Bush's address.

I think I would have given a kidney -- possibly two -- to have been at that event.

One of the traits I admire most is someone's ability to not take themselves too seriously, to laugh at themself. Self-denigrating humor is one of the most endearing forms of humor, and Bush and Rove put on a fine display of it.

It's rare to find that in very prominent people. I think that John Kerry's inability to really laugh at himself was a factor in his 2004 defeat. Likewise, Al Gore's Saturday Night Live appearance, when he gave a mock "Oval Office Address," redeemed him a bit in my eyes.

Now, I really can't say I knew much -- or thought much -- about Natalie Imbruglia. In fact, I was more familiar with comedian David Armand's "interpretative dance" of her song "Torn" than I was of the song itself, or any of her other works.

But then at an Amnesty International fundraiser, someone brought in Mr. Armand -- and a very special guest.

The real fun kicks in at 2:50, for those of you who are too impatient to sit through the whole thing.

Those two oughta go out on tour together.

Nah, that'd detract from the uniqueness, the specialness of this performance. Let it lie.

And if you missed it, well, too bad. You're a little late.

Fuck off, nogo. You don't deserve any better. Men and women far better than you have given their lives for more reasons than the WMD's we weren't even required to find, but you won't care about that. The only thing you care about in casualty figures is a combination of the potential to bash a President and masturbatory fantasies in support of your favorite "non-warlike" dictator. I suggest anyone else considering answering nogo's keyboard diarrhea consider it like it is, a big mess of dog crap steaming on the side walk. I took a stab at cleaning it, but everyone else watch for the stinking remains.

Back to the topic of the thread:
Al Gore cracked me up when he did his "Al Gore doing the macarena" bit, sometime in the late 90's before the election. Bill Clinton has a good sense of humor, both Bush's do, and Reagan also.

The total military dead in the Iraq war between 2003 and this month stands at about 3,133. This is tragic, as are all deaths due to war, and we are facing a cowardly enemy unlike any other in our past, vermin who hide behind innocent citizens. Each death is blazoned in the headlines of newspapers and celebrated by trolls like you because it feeds your BDS.

What is never compared is the number of military deaths during an equivalent period of Clinton administration: 1,245 in 1993; 1,109 in 1994; 1,055 in 1995; 1,008 in 1996. That's 4,417 deaths in peacetime but, of course, who's counting? Certainly scum like you aren't.

What do the democrats do to have fun, Kill 50 million babies, threaten to kill a baby Polar Bear and pluck the eyes out of puppies? You people sure have it going.

Has anyone had as many laughs at politicians in history as they have since last Nov? Keep it up, our sides only hurt a while from laughing 'at you', not with you. The more you laugh at them the more stupid they get.

Republicans propose to pass a law to stop the terrorist from suing American Citizens who report their terrorist activities. Immediately the democrats propose a law to allow the lawsuits against the average American citizen. Don't they make you feel so safe. Providing aid and comfort for 4 years isn't enough, now they want protection for Islamic terrorists written into law. They could save a lot of money, just close the Homeland Security office, the FBI, CIA and every other agency charged with protecting the American public. Everyone can be on their own.

Shame huh? So, deaths in peacetime don't count eh?

Does that claim include all my Aviator pals whose flight hours per month decreased by 35% once Clinton took office and which contributed to an overall decrease in pilot proficiency?

One of the more egregious accidents which was chalked up to pilot error with a strong (strong) contributing factor was a night-time mid-air between an AH-1 Cobra and a transport helo during our Amphibious Joint Exercise with the Brits during winter of '95. Killed over a dozen guys.

This was on top of the unbelievable shortage in aircraft parts and maintenace funds after clinton and crew slashed them.

These reductions, by the way, occurred above and beyond those reductions that were estimated could be made AFTER the end of the Cold War.

I'll go find the link which shows that numbers and types of units (Divisions, Air Groups, Ships, etc) that were cut below End of Cold War requirements.

So when a non-serving moron like nogo whatever shrieks "how dare you compare combat to non-combat deaths", you can safely ignore his/her ranting.
