Courting the Loony Left

John Edwards has declined to participate in a second Fox News debate.

RALEIGH, N.C. - Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards on Friday pulled out of a second debate co-hosted by Fox News Channel, saying the cable network has a conservative slant.

The Edwards campaign said it will not attend the Sept. 23 debate hosted by Fox News and the Congressional Black Caucus Institute, but officials added that Edwards will participate in a different debate hosted by the institute and CNN.

"We believe there's just no reason for Democrats to give Fox a platform to advance the right-wing agenda while pretending they're objective," said Jonathan Prince, Edwards' deputy campaign manager.

It's the second time Edwards has decided to skip a debate because of its affiliation with Fox News. Edwards decided in March that he would pass on an Aug. 14 debate in Reno, Nev., co-hosted by Fox News and the Nevada Democratic Party.

He is courting that loony left vote like a champ. I think this is hilarious. Conservatives have complained for years about media bias and lefties have made fun of us for it, even though groups like the Media Research Center have documented thousands of instances of extreme and blatant bias on all three major networks, as well as on CNN and MSNBC. Now Fox News comes along and those on the left go into meltdown mode. Man up, Edwards. Is Brit Hume really that scary?

I could understand not wanting to go on al Jazeera or something like that, but Republicans go on news shows everyday where they are ridiculed and the facts are misreported. If Edwards is too fragile to go on Fox News, how on earth is he gonna handle being President? The dumbest thing, though, is that Democrats prefer going on a network with a much smaller audience than Fox. That makes perfect sense when running for President. Try to reach the smallest audience possible. But Edwards isn't really running for President now. He is running for the Democrat nomination and that has nothing to do with reaching the masses, and everything to do with reaching the loony left base. It looks like Edwards is willing to reach pretty far to the left to win that vote.

Bush will go on CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN... name it, he'll do it. He will get asked all kinds of questions like "Some people say you mislead the nation, what say you" or "Are you a racist?". He gets pounded like a piece of flank steak getting tenderized by a tenderizing mallet. He just keeps answering questions and standing tall. There is no issue of bias. What we are talking about is OUTRIGHT HOSTILITY. And its personal to boot.

Now Edwards is complaining about a right wing slant?...... A slant? *Shaking my head* What an effeminate male. He is trying to be Bobby Kennedy, but lacks the cojones. you have to have the man jewels to go with the speech Johnny. Talking about 2 Americas but ignoring the other half will get you diddly. Bobby Kennedy had more balls than his brother John, so Edwards has a long way to go before he draw comparisons to Bobby Kennedy.

Maybe he is afraid Fox will call him on his inconsistencies, circa the Iraq War, Walmart, Universal healthcare, Global warming, and pretty much outspending his way into the Senate in the first place in 1998.

And someone needs to tell him he does not have it like that to be turning his nose up news networks. For example, CBS is the Clinton Broadcast Network. Just reference the tongue-bath Rather gave both Clintons (Before and after Bill's presidency) and the FRIGGIN' HIT PIECE KATIE COURIC DID ON HIM 2 WEEKS AGO FOR THE BENEFIT OF HILLARY WHERE SHE ACCUSED HIM OF EVERYTHING FROM USING HIS WIFE'S ILLNESS FOR POLITICAL GAIN, TO BEING A CALLOUS BASTARD WHO DESERTS HIS FAMILY IN THEIR TIME OF NEED. (Disclaimer: I don't like Edwards, but that interview was straight BS. I respect him for not telling Katie what a talentless hack she was.)

Don't believe me, just reference the last Katie-Hillary interview. That was like two old girlfriends chatting over latte's (No Homo) instead of a reporter interviewing a politician.

Besides, Edwards is the only candidate who was polling in 20's% in his home state while he was campaigning as VP in the '04 election. Buy a clue, you've got a lot of cash on hand.

You do realize that's exactly like saying, "groups like Media Matters have documented thousands of instances of extreme and blatant bias on all three major networks, as well as on CNN and MSNBC." Actually, its even more suspect considering MRC is owned by the same people as news companies placing themselves as the alternative to the liberal-biased MSM.

On topic, it is quite ridiculous for Democrats to be refusing debates on FOX. They are effectively ceding the largest cable news audience to their opponents. I can understand not wanting to do an interview with the "shut up!" twins, Hannity and O'Reilly, but a moderated debate? Unless Edwards expects Hume to ask when he stopped beating his wife, he has no reason to reject a FOX debate other than as protest. I would agree with Lorie that he is doing this to appeal to a certain portion of the left, which may indeed help him in the primary, but not enough. For others, it just makes him look like he has so little confidence in his own positions that he can't even handle a venture into "enemy territory."

I for one am more interested in candidates who welcome debate, no matter where it is.

Actually mantis, I should not have even bothered mentioning MRC because it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see a liberal bias on the networks. Just two eyes and about half a brain. I admit that Fox News has a rightward slant -- not in all their reporting or as blatant as the left bias on other networks, but a rightward slant is there. Why can't lefties admit a left tilt on every other network but Fox?

I've never really gotten the hatred the left has for Fox News. What is it you guys want everyone to do, get their news from the The New York Times, MSNBC and CBS? Or some other left-leaning combination?

I've stopped watching the nightly news half hour programs because they seem to be the largest source of cranky sourpuss and pessimistic news. They NEVER seem to report anything positive about this country. They're always cherry-picking the bad stuff and when they do report good news, well, it has to conform to their standards of good.

Most of them would make believe the economy is horrible and that we're heading for a recession. The numbers don't lie and we're still strong. But don't let that get in the way of somehow trying to tear down Bush.

Ya think herman? That didn't seem to be the case during the 2004 Democratic Presidential Candidates Debate. A debate hosted by the very same Congressional Black Caucus Institute and Fox News.

Marc,

I'm not through with you yet. First off, you're wrong in proclaiming that the debate that you refer to was from 2004, it was from 2003 as your own link indicates. This is important, because THE movie highlighting Fox News biases, Outfoxed (www.outfoxed.org ) didn't premiere until July, 2004.

Events since that 2003 debate definitely seem to be on the mind of Democrats when assessing the objectivity of Fox News. And I'm speaking here about not just the movie, Outfoxed (although that ALONE would be enough). From John Edwards' Deputy Campaign Manager, Jonathan Prince:

"We just called the CBC to let them know that we're looking forward to their January debate with CNN but we're not going to participate in the proposed debate with Fox. The CBC champions critical issues that matter enormously to the future of our country, and we look forward to discussing them throughout this campaign and at their debate in January. But we believe there's just no reason for Democrats to give Fox a platform to advance the right-wing agenda while pretending they're objective. If there was any uncertainty as to Fox's objectivity, it was put to rest when they attacked Democratic candidates, Democratic constituency groups, and the Nevada Democratic party when their last proposed debate was cancelled for lack of support."

This is important, because THE movie highlighting Fox News biases, Outfoxed (www.outfoxed.org ) didn't premiere until July, 2004.

NO, it isn't important. It's one movie by someone who's left agenda is far more pronounced than even Fox News is right. So much so the public saw thru it very quickly and cast aside any thought of watching it.

Edwards is a fool of the first order who has been bought and paid for by the moveon crowd. If he thinks boycotting the largest cable news outlet will get him anywhere he's in dreamland.

The American public is a lot smarter than he imagines. He can't vet the public like he can a jury during his shyster days.
