Dennis Miller: Rosie's Trying to Get Fired

Dennis Miller proffered a reason for Rosie's increasing craziness: she's trying to get fired. He explained his opinion on Bill O'Reilly's show Wednesday night:

But Iger's got a real problem here with Rosie. Because I think Rosie wants to get fired. I don't think she's this paranoid. At the end of the day, I don't think she believes George Bush blew up the World Trade Centers.

But I do believe that Barbara Walters owns every back end piece of that show. Barbara might wear gloves up to her forearms. But the fact is she's got sharp elbows right above that. And Rosie has no back end on that show. She needs to get out of that deal. Because with the ratings spike she's brought to "The View", she realizes if she has part ownership in a daytime show she can print money.

So she is going increasingly outlandish. I think she's trying to get whacked.

Would she go so far as to portray herself as a complete nut and conspiracy theorist just to get fired? Well, there are an awful lot of nuts out there who agree with all the nasty, horrible, hurtful things she's said and who would watch her if she does get canned and picked up by someone else.

I don't care if Rosie believes her spew or not. I don't care if she packs a box lunch or if she gets fired, quits or quits breathing. What I do care about are the people who will sponsor the kind of anti-American hate speech she spews out. The sponsors enable that skidmark on the underwear of life to say the crap she says and they are the ones who should be stopping it. Why they would want their names associated with anything that comes out of Rosie is a mystery to me, just like why anyone would buy a product sold by someone who pays to keep her on the air.

Oh please, Lee, say you'll spare the world you incessant whining and slit your Liberal wrists. My refusing to do business with people who sponsor things I don't like isn't silencing anyone, if it was how the Hell do you explain all the asshats on your side who do it all the time? If choosing not to fund something is silencing your critics and that bothers scumbags like you because it's stifling critics then WTF are those Liberal scum in congress trying to do by threatening to not fund the war? You support silencing those who don't share your warped parasitic Marxist ideology whole-heatedly you lying asshole, don't you? Tell the truth just once.

And what "truth" would that be?

That steel has never seen fire? That the bumper and fenders of your and her car was plucked off an organically grown steel tree?

About the only truth she has spoken in recent times is "Google it!" That is possible for everyone to do.

I referred to organizing a Republican boycott - you can refuse to do business with whomever you choose.

An organized boycott, like the one Lorie Byrd helped push against the Ditzy Chicks, is counter productive to your cause. That's why I'm begging you to do it - put your money where your dirty little mouth is, punk - please.

An *organized* boycott, Lee... (Below threshold)

An *organized* boycott, Lee, only works when people already agree that such an action is called for.

I don't know how it is counter productive. How did people getting disgusted at the Dixie Chicks end up being counter productive? People have short attention spans and if they *like* the Chicks they aren't going to listen to Lorie or anyone else, or they will listen but then just go do what they like to do.

I don't watch any version of Law & Order. It's *easy* although I used to like the show. They pissed me off with the political preaching one too many times and I turned the channel, declared "never again!" and just... stopped. Even when I'm really desperate for a crime or cop show and flipping channels I don't stop at Law & Order. And it's not hard. It's easy.

The same thing is true of Dixie Chicks. When listening to the music you used to really like brings up memories of them being offensive idiots, it's not fun to listen anymore. No one needs Lorie to remind them they aren't supposed to like the Chicks.

So what "counter productive to your cause" are you talking about?

Something similar to how stupid the Democrats looks to boycott FOX?

Nothing impresses the American electorate more than seeing Republicans trying to silence their critics.
What Republicans would that be, Lee? Kucinich trying to reinstate the Fairness doctrine? University admins enforcing speech codes? The Senate "Sopranos" 5 that threatened ABC's broadcast license over "The Path to 9-11"?

Actually, the only so-called Republican who I know who is up to his neck in censorship legislatin is McCain via the McCain-Feingold Incumbent Protection Act.

But letters that criticize Rosie or tell sponsors that "I'm just going to spend my money elsewheres" are well within each person's First Amendment rights.

But that drives Leftists nuttier than good baklava... the great unwashed are just not WORTHY of free speech.

"Progressive" is the new fascist.

I don't understand Miller's... (Below threshold)

I don't understand Miller's logic here. If Rosie's currently bringing in the viewers with her schtick, then why in the world would they fire her? And if she says something so outrageous that she has to be fired, then wouldn't she be killing her popularity enough to torpedo a new show of her own by that action? Maybe it's possible to thread that needle, but it seems like an awfully big risk. Sure, that's giving Rosie credit for acting rationally, but, if she's irrational, why not just accept that she believes in conspiracy theories.

Rosie is positively satannical in her self-righteous primping indignation.

She always has been full of crap and she continues to be full of crap. Her blasting Selleck over guns when her bodyguard was packing was a classic case of liberal bitch bypocrisy.

Some stations will indeed keep her for the ratings, the same as they would do for a human sacrifice. It nearly comes to that now with those "Ultimate fighter" shows. I wonder how long it will be before the left actively promotes snuff programs, beginning with the terminally ill. That way they can claim monies paid are actually helping the family in an otherwise lost cause.

Stay tuned.
