Did Democrats Invite the Muslim Brotherhood to Speak to Congress?

This comes to us from The MEMRI Blog via Rockets Brain Trust and Little Green Footballs:

The Egyptian opposition daily Al-Masryoon reported that high-level diplomatic sources said that Muslim Brotherhood General Guide Muhammad Mahdi 'Akef, several members of his office, and Muslim Brotherhood MPs had been invited by U.S. Democrat congressmen to visit the U.S. next month and to speak to Congress.

Source: Al-Masryoon, Egypt, April 12, 2007

Is this possible? The Muslim Brotherhood whose mission statement is, "Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. The Qur'an is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope," could be speaking to Congress?

The Muslim Brotherhood, as all Islamic terrorist organizations, wants the destruction of Israel, as its leader of MB's parliamentary delegation told Steny Hoyer personally last week:

He wanted to continue the issue of Hamas that we discussed in the people's assembly that morning, and he asked me of my reasons for supporting the Hamas movement despite the fact that it is a "terrorist organization" from his point of view. So I said to him that Hamas is a resistance movement defending itself from the terrorism of "Israel" that kills children and innocents, and that the ball is now in the United States' court, especially after the flexibility the movement showed in the Mecca agreement and its acceptance of the principle of two states along the 1967 borders on the condition of the return of refugees. And the chair of the American delegation responded that the return of refugees means the disappearance of "Israel" from existence, so I said to him that is their problem. So he asked me, what is the solution? So I said to him: The solution is that the Jews should return to their original countries, return to the countries from which they came after the occupation of Palestine. And the argument continued between us around this issue, he defending the Zionist entity and me defending Hamas, until Dr. Kamal Abu al-Magd approached so I left, and we didn't discuss anything other than this issue.

Hat tip: Hot Air

If this is true, then the Democrats invited to speak to Congress a man who, in 2004, said this about America :

In response to a question by the Egyptian weekly Al-Arabi on "relations with the U.S," 'Akef said: "We have no relations with the U.S. It is a Satan that abuses the region, lacking all morality and law." 'Akef also denied any "secret dialogue between the Americans and the [Muslim] Brotherhood," saying that this is "an unfounded lie." [7]

In response to a question by the Jordanian weekly Al-Sabil about "Washington's claims that it is acting to spread democracy in the Arab world," 'Akef said: "These are [futile] words and false propaganda. It is not logical that the U.S. - which destroyed Afghanistan, supports Israel's daily ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people, and occupies Iraq and steals its treasures - is acting to spread democracy in the Arab world." [8]

Update: LGF reports that the Muslim Brotherhood are now saying that the Democrats did not invite them to speak to Congress.

(CNSNews.com) - The Muslim Brotherhood has denied an Egyptian newspaper report saying that a visiting delegation led by House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer had invited members of the radical Islamist group to visit the U.S. Congress.

"These reports are totally groundless," Muslim Brotherhood executive bureau member Mohamed Mursi said in a statement posted on the organization's website.

Mursi said the group's stance on dialogue with any foreign official was that "this dialogue should be held through sound diplomatic methods in the presence of a representative from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry."

For the lefties too lazy to follow the liks (because of course they're all just right wing propaganda), I wonder if they're cool with this. I don't know if the report about the MB invite is true or not (I rather think that NOBODY, not even Pelosi, is that stupid), but I'd like to hear from Hoyer that this report is a fabrication.

Wavemaker, there have been several reports saying Hoyer met with the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood's parliamentary delegation and several denials issued by a Hoyer spoksman.

In all the denials Stacey Bernards, said the Maryland Democrat and his bipartisan delegation participated in a meeting Thursday with members of Egypt's parliament including Mohammed Saad el-Katatni, who is the leader of the Brotherhood's parliamentary bloc.

Hoyer also "spoke briefly" with el-Katatni later Thursday at a reception at the U.S. ambassador to Egypt's home, Bernards said.

"However, the bipartisan delegation, including Mr. Hoyer, did not have personal meetings with Mohammad Saad al-Katatni," Bernards said.

So who the hell knows. We'll probably never know for sure.

Because they don't call them 'reactionairies' for nothing. They see something, and without thinking or vetting, they react like drooling invalids, arms flailing and teeth gnashing.

It MUST be true, because we ALL know that 'dimz r traytors' duhhhhhh. Maybe if Drudge linked the story, then the entire wingnut blog side would be all over this, without a single person bothering to check if it's true or not.

And they say the left has Bush Derangement Syndrome? Ha. Here at Wiz Bang, they just jump all over anything that perpetuates their stereotype that any Democrat 'hates Amurica'

So who is the mystery, unnamed US Congressperson?
Anyone? Anyone?

I know!! This is soooo true!

I mean, it's almost like some crazy rightwinger had generated false military records to claim a dem was AWOL from the Air National Guard, claimed falsely that the US had used Nerve gas in Vietnam, that Ronald Reagan had made a secret deal with the Ayatollah to keep Americans hostage until after the election was won, that GWB allowed the Twin Towers to be hit, that GHWB was actually a war coward for bailing out of his aircarft too soon and leaving his gunner to perish unnecessarily (Google It!), that GWB actually said that God told him to invade Iraq, ....and the list goes on and on.

I mean, you would certainly never find a liberals who would allow their emotions to run away with them and accept the above as facts before confirmation.

No sireeee. Just couldn't happen.

I'll try and type r-e-a-l s-l-o-w so you can understand "avg one".

The thread is titled "Did Democrats invite the Muslim Brotherhood to speak to congress."

Some posters apparently made the assumption that this question could, in fact, be answered in the affirmative.

I, personally, would need to see some confirmation before accepting this as a fact due to my utter disbelief that Dems would do this.

You, "avg one" then made the following comment: "Because they don't call them 'reactionairies' for nothing. They see something, and without thinking or vetting, they react like drooling invalids, arms flailing and teeth gnashing."

You, "avg one", are ASSERTING something: namely, that the presumption, by conservatives, of "unverified" rumors is somehow typical of "reactionaries", by which I naturally assume you mean conservatives.

In order to demonstrate the obvious "incompleteness" of this assertion of yours, I simply listed a number of unverified silly beliefs that were put forth by liberals, accepted by some (many?--how to judge number?)liberals, and which continue to be asserted by some (many?) liberals.

All in order to show that there are always going to be pople on both sides of the aisle that will jump to conclusions without having all the facts.

"Avg one's" little rant that my comment had nothing to do with the thread topic is especially rich considering I was feeding off of his/her comment, which itself, technically, was not dealing with the thrust of the thread topic, but heading off into a "why I hate the reactionary right" tangent.

Gee, I hope I typed slowly enough for "avg one" to follow this, but I doubt it, given the "insightful observation" "avg one" has already made.

Sound advice indeed.

If only lefties had heeded this sound advice in the case of Duke Lacrosse players.

BTW, how's that Tom Delay prosecution in Texas going? How long has it been now, a year and a half? Wow, considering the left had Delay convicted and "frog-marched" at the time of the indictment, you'd think the "evidence pot" would have been boiling over with evidence.

Again, for the record, I, a rabid conservative, cannot believe Pelosi/Hoyer would invite any rep of the Muslim Brotherhood to address Congress.

Good Lord, I hope it's not true. But after all the talk from Dem politicians, Nancy Pelosi's recent trip to Syria, and many liberal Dems in blog comment sections, contstantly emphasizing how we should "talk" to these people - employ dialog and diplomacy - I'm not so sure.

Allow me to please edit Lee's commentary to reflect what he really should have said:
"Oh lordy - them [infidel hating, suicidebombing, head-chopping, terror supporting] Muslims want to talk to us!" Lee, dear heart, these are not ordinary Muslims. Your glaring ommission of who they are in such a bland and unmaginable statement is proof that you'll use any commentary to display your disdain for those you disagree with, no matter how ridiculous.

What's ridiculous is the concept that allowing these asshats to talk is a bad thing. It's another indication that the conservative mind is filled with childish concepts and precepts that aren't conducive to managing the foreign affairs of America.

How about Bush being behind the 911 attacks? How about the towers being imploded? Democratic "wannabe leaders" refusing to go on a network? I'd go on and on as the examples are endless.

Lee, the enemy has been doing plenty of talking. And we've heard it ad nauseum. What part of this don't you understand? The part where they say they want to crush America? The part where they say they want the Muslim flag flying over the White House? Where they say they don't mind killing themselves if they can just take an infidel out with them? And how about all those protests with all those lovely signs expressing their fondest wishes of beheading the infidel? Which part of this and more do you think I've not heard?

These idiots may get a platform to stand on at the UN to denigrate and demean the west, but it doesn't mean we have to give those whose ultimate desire is to subjugate us a platform in our own hallowed halls to do the same.

You mean like Obama "aised in madrassa" refusing to go on Fox?

Yeah, must be very different from freepers gloating over Molly Ivins' cancer a couple of days before she died ("I almost feel sorry for the cancer itself. Having to spread throughout her must be unbearable even for cancer." etc.)
The full Muslim Brotherhood account of its meeting with Steny Hoyer
So, basically, Hoyer went to a meeting at the embassy in Egypt, where the Muslim Brotherhood guy (a MP) was also invited. They talked for awhile, Hoyer said that he stands with Israel, Muslim Brotherhood guy says that he stands with Hamas. End of the story. And the rumor about Muslim Brotherhood invited to Congress -- pure nonsense, of course.
