Suzanne Hupp, who lost both her parents at Luby's Cafeteria in 1991 when a lunatic gunman crashed his truck through the window and began ruthlessly shooting innocent patrons, spoke to Congress in 1993 on the assault weapons ban that Congress passed but let expire in 2004 because it became obvious it did nothing to deter violence. The video quality is bad, but Ms. Hupp's testimony is compelling. Watch it.
I'm pretty sure this is the same woman who was on the Penn and Teller gun control show I just saw a couple days ago. I wish I could remember where it was linked from.
If it is, I think it said she's in the Texas legislature now.
In the Penn and Teller thing she also made a *big* issue of "gun free zones" such as schools. That when something like this happens it's almost always in a "gun free zone."

She's right about our being armed against the government -- James Madison wrote in theFederalist Paper No. 46 that the American people are armed against a government that would use the military to impose tyranny. He describes such a scenario with an armed citizenry:
"Let a regular army, fully equal to the resources of the country, be formed; and let it be entirely at the devotion of the federal government; still it would not be going too far to say, that the State governments, with the people on their side, would be able to repel the danger. The highest number to which, according to the best computation, a standing army can be carried in any country, does not exceed one hundredth part of the whole number of souls; or one twenty-fifth part of the number able to bear arms. This proportion would not yield, in the United States, an army of more than twenty-five or thirty thousand men. To these would be opposed a militia amounting to near half a million of citizens with arms in their hands, officered by men chosen from among themselves, fighting for their common liberties, and united and conducted by governments possessing their affections and confidence. It may well be doubted, whether a militia thus circumstanced could ever be conquered by such a proportion of regular troops. Those who are best acquainted with the last successful resistance of this country against the British arms, will be most inclined to deny the possibility of it. Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of. Synova,
In the Penn and Teller thing she explains that she had a gun with her that day and left it in her car because that was the law.
Makes sense she'd blame the law.
That's right, it was the LAW and law abiding citizens do such things. It's the LAW that failed her and her parents are DEAD because of it thanks to pussy liberal leftist in government.
Today it is different. She is not allowed to carry a concealed weapon and she may have died, but she could have stopped the carnage.
Concealed Carry Permits are only given to individuals who pass a stringent background check (fingerprints are checked locally and by the FBI) no misdemeanors, felonies, or substance abuse problems, plus the must take hours of training and pass a practical and written exam at their own expense which cost around $200.
People who hold concealed carry permits are law abiding CITIZENS who taker the defense of their selves and family seriously. Some day, one could save your life or that of a family member.
We won't line up for a bullet. It will be your lucky day if you are in a similar situation and one of us are in your group.

Hey anti-gun folks...9/11 happened with box cutter knives, the Oklahoma city bombing happened with fertilizer. People have been killing each other long before the discovery of gunpowder. Law is an ineffective tool for stopping someone who is suicidal, however, a .357 magnum works nicely.
