Fox reported that building 44 of the Johnson Space Center in Houston was evacuated upon reports that a gunman on the loose inside. More details from KHOU.com:
A building at the Johnson Space Center was evacuated Friday afternoon because a man with a weapon was inside.
"A person with a weapon was in Building 44," confirmed NASA spokesperson Kylie Clem. It's not clear if the gunman fired any shots or made any threats, according to NASA spokesperson James Hartsfield.
NASA security responded and HPD was called after the initial call around 1:40 p.m.
More than 15 police cars could be seen outside the building from Air 11.
HPD is also sending SWAT.
At least one ambulance was sent to the scene as a precaution, but there have been no reports of injuries.
Building 44, just north of Rocket Park, houses the communications and engineering departments. It is used to test communication equipment for the space shuttle and International Space Station. There are several labs inside.
Neil Cavuto has a reporter from KRIV on his show right now who is reporting that there was a shooting.
Update: I'm hearing on Fox that a NASA contractor has barricaded himself inside the building. President Bush is being briefed on what's going on at JSC.
Update II: The police and NASA authorities are having a press conference and are saying that the gunman is 60 years old, but they have no idea who he is or whether he's dead or alive since they have not yet made contact with him. The guy is by himself, so there's no point rushing in. Let him just sit there for while. He's not going anywhere.
Update III: Another press conference: the gunman killed himself, but, unfortunately, the reports that he was by himself were not accurate. He did kill one hostage, a man. A second hostage, a woman, was unharmed, although she was taped up, apparently. The police believe this murder suicide took place in the first minutes of this event. The police said they were called to the scene after two shots earlier today. This woman had to have been in that room with two dead bodies for several hours now. She must have thought no one was going to come get her. I wonder if she could hear the helicopters circling over head.

This troubles me.
I was sitting on the subway yesterday morning and everyone who had a newspaper (perhaps a third to half of the riders) had huge splash pages of the murderer from Virginia on the front page.
I got to thinking what an attraction such a display might provoke in unbalanced people...the attention of millions of people, your chance at fame.
I know this point had been brought up in previous threads, but now that there appears to be another shooting, this came to mind.
P.S., Sean, I think sarcasm is inappropriate at this point. We don't know if someone has been killed.

Good.
One more of the 'brats' and 'snobs' of the elite going crazy in the communications and tracking development laboratory adds up to all that much more of a headache and heartache and expense for the 'brats and 'snobs' who 'torch' the weak and the defenseless.
Why should the 'snobs' and 'brats' of the elite of the US have their hand in ever being able to exploit the wealth of other orbs ?? The 'brats' and 'snobs' of torcher killer and mutilator US have enough money as it is. They don't need their favored few of the elite holding their sanity togeather any longer in a space communications and tracking development laboratory!
I hope they all go crazy !
I really do.
The less money the 'brats' and 'snobs' elite "USA" have, the less the 'brats' and 'snobs'll be able to 'torch' the weak and defenseless of the countries the 'brats' and 'snobs' hold under thier global rule through senseless killing bloodshed and shootings! The 'snobs' 'n 'brats' need a good dose of whatever cripples them up and 'torcehs' them back, as the 'brats' and 'snobs' have crippled and 'torched' the weak and defenseless of the entire world outside its borders and those INSIDE its national borders!
I really do hope they all go crazy.
DEFEND THE WEAK AND DEFENSELESS BROTHERS AND SISTERS
WATCH AND NOTE THE MUSLIM REBELLION OVERCOMING THE RICH AND ELITE OF THE BRATS AND SNOBS
