Impeachment: It's not just for high crimes and misdemeanors anymore

It's now a political tool to help the Democrats get their way. Jack Murtha is all for threatening President Bush with impeachment in an effort to pressure him to cave on the Iraq war:

Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.) said Sunday that Democrats in Congress could consider impeachment as a way to pressure President Bush on his handling of the war in Iraq.

"What I'm saying, there's four ways to influence a president. And one of them's impeachment," Murtha, chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee, said on CBS' "Face the Nation."

Ian at Hot Air notes that Murtha is looking quite a bit like Vito Corleone with his heavy handed "we'll make him an offer he can't refuse" tactic. Ian also has the transcript from Face the Nation:

BOB SCHIEFFER: Are you seriously talking about contemplating an impeachment of this President?

MURTHA: What I'm saying is there are four ways to influence a President.

SCHIEFFER: -- and that's one of them?

MURTHA: [unintelligible] and the fourth one is -

SCHIEFFER: -- that's an option that's on the table?

MURTHA: I'm just saying that's one way to influence the President

This would set an unbelievably dangerous precedent if the Dems were to use impeachment as a political tool to force President Bush to his knees on Iraq. Granted, they could never do it without committing political suicide themselves.

How about turning down $850 million dollars in foreign Katrina aid? Did you know that thousands of people are still living in trailers, and the 9th ward is still a wasteland?

How about turning down $850 million dollars in foreign Katrina aid?

What, on top of the amount we accepted, starting THREE days after the hurricane? No, wait, you're pretending that the initial "no thanks" to the modest amounts offered was the only answer, and that we never took any aid from anyone.

Did you know that thousands of people are still living in trailers, and the 9th ward is still a wasteland?

Did you know that much of the 9th Ward was a wasteland before Katrina? And did you know that the only was we could get all of those "thousands of people" out of their trailers is to physically kick them out (in which case, you'd be bitching about kicking out needy people)? How many of those thousands were on the public dole before Katrina?

Turning your back on needy Americans sounds like a good reason for an impeachment.

So where's Congress in this? If it was really important to you, then you'd be pressuring the DEMOCRATIC Congress to do something... oh, wait, you already know they're useless, so you're complaining about other people instead.

Chris G:

Katrina!? Is't Bush fault people in New Orleans did not evacuate, and even if they did not have the means to evacuate, that the mayor facilitated people to stay in a city that would be without water and electricity, while the governor did squat to set up some kind of emergency infrastructure? Wow. So Bush is president of the freeworld and mayor and governor to boot? If that's the case, why did "Delicious Chocolate Drink" Nagin get reelected. And why would the governor even contemplate running for reelection? So, Bush could be responsible for her state?

Why is that states like Florida, NC, and SC get hammered every year with hurricanes, but the state and local governments are able to comport themselves with a minimal level of functionality?

As for the $850 million in aid, I believe the countires offering ended up giving the money to private charities on the ground. A desicion I agree with considering the way congress handles other people's money. I hear the Clinton-Bush charity got a lot of their money directly from foreign aid.

Secondly, Democtrats think they are tough if they scream at semi-midget reporters (Clinton vs. Wallace) and talk about impeachement. You won't bomb the person that killed American troops while they slept (Khobar Towers), but you will scream at a 5'8" reporter? What a fa... John Edwards.

If Murtha and the Dems really wanted to show the America public they had a pair, they would impeach a president with a 30% approval rating during the time of an unpopular war. Like they used to say in my old neighborhood, "Don't Talk About It, Be About It". If I was special counsel to the presedent, I would subpeonan every Democrat who I have on record making a statement about Sadaam/Iraq/WMD's, and put on a show trial that not end until november 4 2008.

You remember, the one who failed his people, the one who lied and said 10,000 were dying, the one who isnt bright enough to follow his own evac plan, the one who allowed cops to go to vegas in the days after katrina because they were stressed out, the one who allowed hundreds of buses to sit idle as 'his people' were trying to get out of the city, the one who didnt issue an evac order with a cat 5 approaching a city below sea level, because he didnt want to piss off the restaurant, bar, and hotel industry, the one who moved his family to Tx, because he wouldnt allow hsi family to live in a city he led, and yeah, that same city that spent levee money on a marina, a casino, and a plane.

How are the crime and murder stats in nawlins these last 18 months??

Now, who's ready to impeach that liberal mayor of chocolate city?

Impeachement as a means of 'influencing' the President because your party doesn't like something sounds like a damn bad idea to me. However, if Murtha DOES manage to get his little wet-dream started, does he realize just HOW low he's managed to set the bar?

And when a Republican congress does the same thing to 'influence' a Democratic President, will Murtha be first in line to vote, seeing it's apparently an 'acceptable' means of influencing a President?

Man, I think it's about damn time for legislator age limits. They won't let a commercial pilot fly past 65 - but they'll let legislators stay in office well past their senility date, and while a pilot's mistake will cost a planeful of passengers, a legislator has the potential of affecting the whole country. "65 and Out" - it's an idea who's time has come.

Besides, you're wrong on every count anyway, from the war to Katrina to -- well, you name it. There is enough evidence against this President and his people on so many different bits of corruption that a discussion about whether or not he's a good man -- and the republican party is something more than a group of lemmings -- is beyond any debate. Start by arresting their libelist treasonous media for their democrat and enemy propaganda. Then just run the truth and the facts nonstop fight out of the mouths of the criminal fraud democrats and they will self destruct having been exposed and rightfully publicly humiliated in front of the entire Country. There will be noone left for the Rats to sell thir lies and deceive into voting for them.

Only then will this Country ever begin to recover from the damage these Un-American Jackals continue to us. Barney is a perfect example of stupid evil shit for brains that talk out their ass and get a kick out of causing chaos. They miserable wretched souls who despise those who are not. No question about it these cries of impeachment serve two purposes for equally despicable people. Those that must Clintonize President Bush for their having elected a no good common criminal for President and the others for purely evil fiending of political power.

Chris G, It's a waste of time trying to present facts to a liberal.

If I remember correctly the only place that didn't do what they were requested (the president can't order a state to do a lot) was La and the city of N.O. One thing they have in common is they have been ran in the ground by criminal democrats for more years than we can remember.

Get out three days before the storm hit was a pretty good indication that the president was telling the people of La not to listen to their criminal dummies and save themselves.

Hundreds of drowned Buses are a pretty good indication that the leaders of N.O. and the state of La. did not give a Sh** about the people. Ever wonder how much of the billions of dollars sent to La is now in the bank in some criminal democrats name. Overseas bank of course.

For the Senile old fart Murtha, the word from President Bush should be 'bring it on. That's a death sentence for the democrat party of traitors and cowards if the president just drops the 'gentleman' posture and goes after them with the truth. First he should inform America of the facts. 95 % of the previous deaths in Iraq and "All" of the death now are the responsiblity of the democrats through their support of terrorism.

Yes, justrand, I am smart...like most americans, and you're stupid, like the pathetic 29% that still support this war and the lemmings on this website. But the real ender to this discussion is that the majority of Americans are against this President, this disaster of a war, the corruption that's taken over Washington from the lobbyist scandal to this current Attorney one - and who knows what else will be uncovered.

You people are like pinheads on the Titanic too dumb to know the ship isn't already doomed. Be that way, it has no effect on me. I sleep at night knowing my opinion isn't only right, but moral. From about.com

Chicago's 2006 Homicide Totals
Remember how a few months ago we told you that the City of Chicago was being investigated for 'under-reporting' (no, a dem govt lie??) its crime statistics (in order to look safer/better)? Well, now the Chicago police has released the city's 2006 homicide totals (so far) and -- guess what? -- for the 'first time in four years', the homicide rate has gone up instead of down... Hmmm... Last year we had 449 homicides (supposedly) and this year we've had 452 so far...

So barneyboy, thats about the 1000th time youve been bent over and PUNKED like barney frank in a crisco factory. Any more lies you want to share??

A 3rd of back men are illiterate, 70% of black babies are bastard children, and does anyone see welfare being eliminated in chicago????
