Lately, there have been some undercurrents of nervousness with Democrats that Obama in his new emphasis that he is mainstream American, and not a wide-eyed radical, may be abandoning some of his liberal positions. I shared some of those concerns...

Government's role regulating free speech needs to be as limited as possible. The freedom allowed under the 1st Amendment isn't always attractive, yet to limit free expression is always the worst possible option.

If you had to deal with other French every day, I think you'd feel more strongly about it too.

Maybe their self-loathing is a result of realizing that the socialist and wide-open immigration "theories" are disastrous when they are actually put into practice.
The one big problem is once you buy into that bag of goodies it is almost impossible to undo them. The only thing left for anyone to do is smack themselves in the forehead and curse "what the hell were we thinking?"
Or.....Maybe, just maybe that percentage number is in direst correlation with the number of French that had their cars burned or windows smashed from those non-assimilated people practicing their religion of peace.
If the lefties in this country are successful of giving us the French model, I'm sure our self-loathing numbers would soar too. And the worst part is the lefties are trading our national security just to mimic the French.

But did anyone see the French presidential debate debate last night? It was a real debate; hammer and tongue. 2 hours and forty minutes with no props . The moderators harldy got in a word and there was no possiblility of anyone carrying a wire. And those who can't vote in the French National elections, vote with their feet. France is the most popular tourist destination in the world, with 78 milion foreign visitors in 2006.

If they (the French, that is) want to begin a turnaround on the devolution trend, they could start by delivering a landslide victory for Nikolas Sarkozy. After all, a vote for Segolene Royal is a vote for a continuance of the "To Hell in a Gasoline Handbasket" strategy.

I just read an article in the International Herald Tribune the other day about how many of the "young people" of France are moving to other countries (mostly England) because there are just no more opportunities in France. It was very informative.
Yet I pick up one women's magazine after another which keeps on portraying France as this socialist utopia with all these great government handouts for mothers with children, etc. etc. and how wouldn't it be so great if we had that here in the U.S., etc. etc.
Gawd, liberals are idiots.

There are still more people emigrating from Britain to France than vice versa..mainly retirees ...hey given british food, british prices, british weather, british inner city crime rates, that doesn't sound like such a a surprising figure..I'm probably biased about France. I lived 2 years in Paris, in the 70's, it was probably the best period of my life, and even on a few brief return visits, it is still my favorite city, and probably the world's...though yes the French can be flinty hearted, (hargneux ), have stifling labor laws etc.

Any idiot can see the Germans are clearly buttering and sucking up the French to disguise yet another invasion and take over of the country. Duh.
