Newsbusters has the latest from Rosie on that whole fire can't melt steel, WTC 7 controversy. Elisabeth Hasselbeck has been doing her homework and had some pretty spirited responses to the conspiracy theories. Doesn't ABC realize that it would be great television to book the Popular Mechanics guys who investigated the tower collapses? Heck, if Rosie thinks they are Bush agents, then ABC can invite additional guests as well, but the show really should either stop letting Rosie spread wild conspiracy theories or have some qualified experts on to explain what really did happen on 9/11. If they did that Rosie would be exposed as a bit of a nutcase and I don't think she will allow them to do that, especially since she will be gone in a few weeks anyway. For those wondering, this all appears to have come up again in the context of a discussion about Rudy Giuliani's performance on 9/11. You won't believe Rosie's theory of how Giuliani covered up the suspect steel. It is out there -- even for her.

Naah, that was melting, burning plastic, Bryan, looks nothing like Thermite, which
1) burns so brightly you'd just see a white flare at best.
2) burns so hot that it would not stay in one place- the thermite would drop through whatever was holding it. Thus, the source of the damage would appear to decend during the fire. I've seen it melt though an engine block. As it stays in one place during the video, the video proves that this is not Thermite.
3) Produces localized damage. The heat is intense but transient. As a result, you don't get a dripping faucet of molten metal, you get a broken off chunks of metal sheared off where the thermite burned through. Once the steel and thermite parted company, no further melting. Even if it burned through a W-84 I-beam, you'd have at best a few drips and spatters (none of which you would see through the smoke and the bright light) then nothing. Bear in mind the scale of the building you are looking at here- this is a LOT of melted material, proof again that it's not steel.
Clearly anyone who thinks they are seeing Thermite has never actually seen the stuff work, and is only having a bad case of verbal diarhea. What is going on in the video is most likely burning plastic, which I've also seen and by incredible coincidence, looks exactly like that, or possible lighter metal such as aluminum- but my bet's on plastic because you don't see the bright flare of burning metal.
BTW, if anyone has a good place for me to send them, I took photos of the long abandoned steel remains of the 79th st pier warehouse on the Hudson River. Clear proof of either:
1) Fire will severely distort structural steel.
Or...
2) Rove and Cheney used a time machine to pre-emptively plant this false evidence decades ago, cause we know fire won't do that to steel beams.
Or...
3) Frank Gehry's first job was designing warehouses.

I work with pyrotechnics and explosives and know for a fact that the "horizontal ejections" could not have been created by explosives. The ejection velocities are orders of magnatude too small. Sorry conspiracy nuts it just aint possible. The "video proof" that is posted on these 9/11 websites are all that is needed to prove definitively that explosives were not involved.
In fact many of the ejections appear as a gentle waft of air clearly ejected at the same velocity as the collapsing structure even if those pancaking floors are several stories above. The air from the floors above is simply travelling down elevator safts, stair cases, etc. and blowing out windows a handful of floors below the collapse.
Videos of building demolitions may look similar to the untrained eye but careful review of a real explosion induced demolition will show that the velosity of debris in a real case of demolition is much different from any of the 9/11 videos. In fact, most video equipment has filming speeds that are too small to capture the explosion while it is happening. What you see is one frame where nothing is seen and the next frame where the explosion is complete and the debris is completely ejected. In all of the 9/11 videos the so called "explosions" last several frames documenting that the event is occuring at a 10 to 20 feet per second rate. This is clearly not from explosives.

There is also a question of logic. Since the nutters claim Thermite was used, then what is the purpose of explosives? The Thermite would have not weakened or distorted the steel structure but completely severed through the beams quickly. The stucture would immediately collapse and there would have been no purpose to using explosives.

And clearly, bryan's parent's let him play with all sorts of questionable things, and still do. But in fact he's right, being a city boy, I never did. No kid in his right mind would ever, ever, use Thermite on a New York City Cockroach. You'd only piss it off, and then it would call it's friends. Of course none of that relates to burning metal and plastic on a 100+ story skyscraper, but I can see the bd thought process working something like this:
1)When I was little, I burned ants, and it was fun!
2) When I put them on the BBQ grill, they burned up real good and was so tasty! And the plastic melted,
3) But the Grill never burned. Or melted. It just got black and greasy. And it wasn't tasty at all!
4) The grill was steel!
5) Therefore steel can't melt. Even with Jet fuel burning, cuz daddy must'a used a gallon or two of lighter fluid ever time he barbecued, and that's like the same stuff or something.
6) So if lighter fluid or whatever they put in the planes can't do it, the only possible explanation is... Evil Conservative Magic!
But on a serious note, what bd might realize if he took a step back is that all "weird" theory, from 911 to UFO's to Witches, comes from a basic and very arrogant fault in reasoning, which is this:
"If I don't understand it, no one else can either, or ever will, because I am smarter than everyone else who is or ever was".
In short:
2000BC: I don't know what Lightning is, no one else does or ever will because I am the smartest that ever will be, therefore, it's the gods.
1000AD: I don't know what caused that seizure, is, no one else does or ever will because I am the smartest that ever will be, therefore, it's the Devil.
1960AD: I don't know what caused that strange light, no one else does or ever will because I am the smartest that ever will be, therefore, it's the Aliens.
2006AD: I don't know what caused that building to fall, no one else does or ever will because I am the smartest that ever will be, therefore, it's the Conspiracy.
In every case, it's the same, building a world view based on personal ignorance. And the sad part is, there is nothing wrong with being ignorant about something. I have no idea how a computer works. We all have to specialize. The sad part is the assumption, implicit in any conspiracy/alien/voodoo theory, that everyone else is and will be for all time just as ignorant.

Which can be explained by pneumantic overpressure in the collapse zones without requiring the deus ex machina of explosives, which itself begs the question of how those explosives were planted to begin with. Occam's Razor applies here.
Think, Bryan. You're just parroting stuff you find on the internet without analysis. Think.
-----
Aside: The second video talks about people reporting "... explosives going off inside the buildings". This is a dishonest argument. Debunking 911 is one source at which people can begin researching this lie; that site deals with such reportage here: http://debunking911.com/explosions.htm.
And going back to the first video: That is often used as "proof" that themite was used in the destruction of the WTCs. Ignoring the fact that the metal was never conclusively identified as steel - and ignoring the fact that steel was not the only metal in the impact zone, several tons of airliner aluminum was too - that video is often paired with confirmed eyewitness testimony that molten metal was identified at Ground Zero. What conspiracy fantasists continually and conveniently ignore is the issue that the confirmed sightings of molten metal were weeks after the fact. What's the point? Thermite burns out in seconds. Where's the heat source for the metal found weeks later? Assuming it was indeed steel?
The supposed use of thermite in the video is debunked at the link I provided, and elsewhere. My point is a lesson learned in dealing with the truth-lacking members of the so-called truth movement: They try to use both video and confirmed eyewitness testimony to bolster their case for thermite use (as well as Steven Jones's debunked "study", but that's a topic discussed in other places), but they conveniently - and intentionally - ignore the contradiction that such juxtaposition gives. Claming thermite use debunks itself when the standard video is combined with eyewitness testimony of molten metals.

Yes, sadly, he does.

A show broadcast on national TV has "no actual import or influence"?
If ya believe that, would you mind helping put more shows with a Christian and/or conservative viewpoint on the air? After all, if they have "no actual import or influence," it doesn't matter what their viewpoint is, right?

I like the part where she (oldliberalfleamale) talks about belief in the official version. I don't know what version she is talking about. The one I saw live on TV, where the plane hit the building and a while later, they both collapsed is probably not the official version, but I saw what happened. There were no explosions. I have seen building demolished. This was not done by explosion. But then men never walked on the moon either.
