This week's Weekend Caption Contest™ was definitely one of the geekier episodes of the contest. It was like the quiz section from "Beauty and the Geek," which coincidentally was playing all day on MTV today, but I digress... The assignment this week was to caption the following picture:
Here are the winning entries:
1) (fustian) - "And, this compact gray device on my right is a new product we're very excited about. It's called the 'dPhone.'"
2) (Jeff Blogworthy) - "We tried to tell them the island was going to blow if they didn't keep pushing the button. Did they listen? NOOOooo!"
3) (John in CA) - "Dell's founder and CEO shows the results of twenty years of, um, what's the opposite of innovation?"
Honorable Mention
4) (Bill Ramey) - "After you install Vista, your computer will run as fast as this beauty from the past."
5) (Olaf) - "One of these came with a 1 year warranty, superior customer service and support, including a friendly voice you could actually understand whenever you called in with a problem, and believe it or not, still functions 15 years later like the day it was made, the other is a broken Dell."
6) (J-Ho) - "We started with nothing but a garage, a dream, and unlimited access to porn. Now look at us!"
The Byte Magazine Memorial Award goes to (tie):
(Nylda) - "And with our acoustic coupler option you can be online in no time."
(Rodney Dill) - "... and with a $300.00 video upgrade you'll be able to play Pong."
The Wizbang Weekend Caption Contest™ will return next Friday. In the meantime try your hand at Wizbang Blue's caption contest that's running now.

In a sad admission that they have no life, three of the caption contest regulars are up before the crack of dawn to check the results.
Jeff, dude, get some sleep...

fustian, it's always "before the crack of dawn" somewhere. Remember that this is a world-wide medium -- you should never assume that the timestamp/timezone of a blog post is the timezone of the poster.

What's scary is that the IBM PC is actually 25 years old.
