Update (Kim): Fox News is reporting that a Falwell aide has said that Rev. Falwell has died. He was 73 years old. A hospital press conference is expected soon.
Some of the nutroots are thrilled that Rev. Falwell has died. Take a look at some of the discussion threads at the Democratic Underground. Sickos.

My pastor studied at Liberty and was a good friend of Falwell's. He was a much maligned man of character who was excoriated for calling pornography a sin. I will disregard those who, in their willful ignorance, think they have anything of substance to say about him without knowing him. While he may have said a few politically stupid things, the only "damage" he did was to people's self-esteem because they couldn't stand being told they were wrong. He will rest in peace.

Jerry Falwell was a man of good moral character and a man of God who never fell to the sins of greed and lust, unlike so many other religious celebrities. I didn't agree with much of his teaching (particularly his traditional fundamentalist anti-gay positions) but I respected his desire to rid American culture of so much worthless garbage

Do not expect them to show class and magnanimity. Do not try to convince them (most anyway) of what is good and right. Just force them out of positions of influence, and I recommend that they be relegated to making bagels and tea and coffee and some organic type foods -- that is their only redeeming talent.

For the rest of you yahoos who think that the comments of a couple jackasses on this thread are in some way indicative of "the left" where "the right" is the very model of graciousness, a little reminder:
From Jay's piece on Molly Ivins death:
Can't agree with you, Jay. I was force-fed her crap when the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune regularly soiled their editorial pages with her vomit a few years back. She was a bitter, rancid, one-dimensional hack who thought calling Dubya "Shrub" qualified her for seating at the Algonquin Round Table. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Good assessment, cmd, but you left out 'partisan'. Molly Ivins was a true yellow-dog Democrat who really would have voted for the Devil himself if he were running on the Democratic ticket. One could simply summarize her philosophy and writing as "Republican - bad; Democrat - good".
She may be missed by others, but not by me. Surely one can find others more worthy to mourn.

And the Wizzers think that the Left is hateful?
Yes. As a matter of fact, I do indeed.
"[I]f there is retributive justice [Sen. Jesse Helms] will get AIDS from a transfusion, or one of his grandchildren will get it." -PBS's Nina Totenberg
"I hope his wife feeds him lots of eggs and butter and he dies early like many black men do, of heart disease." - USA Today's Julianne Malveaux regarding fellow black Clarence Thomas.
"...some sleazy woman with big hair coming out of the trailer parks ..." -Newsweek's Evan Thomas about Paula Jones, one of the many women victimized by Bill Clinton.
Remember when former NBC Radio reporter Bonnie Erbe told Linda Chavez that she had a greater chance of being struck by lightning than being raped "at her age."?
Other examples of liberal vitriol include Eleanor Clift's remarks about the impeachment of her venerated William Jefferson Clinton: "That herd of managers from the House, I mean, frankly, all they were missing was white sheets."
Along the same lines, the Arkansas Times wrote that "Kenneth Starr is cunning, ruthless, and about as well mannered as Heinrich Himmler." Then there was Los Angeles Times' Karen Grigsby Bates, who said of Sen. Trent Lott: "Whenever I hear Trent Lott speak, I immediately think of nooses decorating trees. Big trees, with black bodies swinging from the business ends of nooses." Of course, she may have had Lott mixed up with the senior United States Senator from West Virginia, member of the Democratic Party, and Exalted Cyclops.
Liberals can hear whispers of what they consider hate speech fifty miles away - whether they imagine that it's coming from Sean Hannity or Jerry Falwell or just about anyone opposed to affirmative action. But, they can't hear it dripping off their own nasty tongues. Hypocrisy, thy name is liberal.
Well, Jerry Falwell now knows some things that the rest of us don't. God bless him. No tears, no worries, and no pain. My thoughts and prayers go to his family.
