Bush's Immigration Stance is Seriously Hurting RNC Fundraising

Republican donors are pissed at President Bush for pushing his amnesty bill, and the RNC is taking the hit. Bryan at Hot Air links to a Washington Times piece that says RNC donations are down 40%:

The Republican National Committee, hit by a grass-roots donors' rebellion over President Bush's immigration policy, has fired all 65 of its telephone solicitors, Ralph Z. Hallow will report Friday in The Washington Times.

Faced with an estimated 40 percent fall-off in small-donor contributions and aging phone-bank equipment that the RNC said would cost too much to update, Anne Hathaway, the committee's chief of staff, summoned the solicitations staff last week and told them they were out of work, effective immediately, the fired staffers told The Times.

Why? It's right here toward the end of the piece:

There has been a sharp decline in contributions from RNC phone solicitations, another fired staffer said, reporting that many former donors flatly refuse to give more money to the national party if Mr. Bush and the Senate Republicans insist on supporting what these angry contributors call "amnesty" for illegal aliens.

"Everyone donor in 50 states we reached has been angry, especially in the last month and a half, and for 99 percent of them immigration is the No. 1 issue," said the former employee.

So far RNC doesn't have any $ from me this year because of repeated abuse by their phone "salesmen."

As I learned in business long ago, ANY contact with customers, no matter who mundane, is an opportunity for either disaster, or additional success. There's no quality control at RNC on this matter, I'm afraid.

I believe the immigration issue is just the proverbial straw that... you know. The Republicans have been ticking people off for a while now. They are cowardly. I quit giving a long time ago. Bush's veto record is an embarrassment (I don't know why more bloggers don't talk about that). Big gov Bush is out there today stumping for global warming. I voted for the guy twice, and I thank God every day that Algore is not the president, but conservatives are getting tired of settling for "not conservative, but the best we can get" politicians. If they are going to act like Democrats then there is no need to support them. If the Republican party is going to be saved it will be by purging those who have turned their backs on the people and the constitution - not by voting for every Tom, Dick and Harry(iet) with an R by their name.

Please cite relevant studies documenting the costs of illegals on social systems. I would recommend you focus primarily on education and health care. For instance, how many emergency rooms in Los Angeles County are open today compared to 10 years ago? Why the difference?

Of course, we already know why there is a difference, as those hospitals have reported publicly on the rationale behind the closings.

Hate to bust your bubble of indignant rhetoric there, DJ, but the Donks have already been elected, but the GOP evidently didn't get the message that the electorate sent last November.

The only thing doubling down on a bad hand does is make you lose more money. Evidently this has not penetrated the skulls of the GOP braintrust.

Let us quote the Warden from Cool Hand Luke:

If it takes a few years in the wilderness to get the message through to those chuckleheads, then evidently that is the price to be paid.

I haven't given the RNC the time of day, much less any money, in years. I think they finally scratched me off the list when they called after the "Gang of 14" fiasco. I told them flatly, "After you get judges x,y, and z (I had a list of those the compromise threw under the bus) a floor vote, you can call me again. NOT BEFORE, mmmkay? Buh-bye! "

I'm FOR a comprehensive solution for immigration reform, but I can't support this bill. It's weak on enforcement and security and long on empty promises and wildly stupid assumptions.

Most of the base couldn't care less about guest worker programs or "paths to citizenship," ALL they want to hear about is security before they will listen to anything else. I think they are wrong on that as a general concept, but I recognize they are NOT going to be persuaded to put security behind ANY other aspect.

The President and congressional GOP leadership needs to recognize that reality, as well. The support is not there, and the count isn't close enough for any amount of complaining to change that. It's back to the drawing board, and the sooner the better because we NEED solutions to all these problems, including security for borders and visas.

Nony you ignorant slut.

You've managed to whip together portions of multiple events spanning over 14 months and get it all quite wrong.

In the immediate wake of a bloody muslim terrorist strike in July of '05 and CAIR's usual 'we're the victim' garbage, I posted ' when is someone going to walk up to Ibrahim Hooper and put a bullet in his brain'.

It was an expression of my deep and abiding disgust that the lying terrorist-org-supporting scumbags of CAIR are allowed to freely work their political manuevers against these United States.
The comment went unremarked for nearly 48hrs, until (laughably) one of his associates at MPAC-UK (Nals Rawna) emailed it to Charles, CAIR and IIRC of all people, RNC Chairmen Mehlman.

He was the first to deliberately mischaracterize my remark as a direct threat.

Interesting that you parrot that MPAC-UK scumbag Bunglawala's deliberate distortion of my remark, too.

It was fully a year later, July of '06 when the legal-system-abusing monkeys of CAIR were desperate for a legal win after their fresh defeat in the Anti-CAIR harassment lawsuit and started bleating about email threats. They scraped together everything they could and sicced the FBI on them.
These children added my item of 1 year previously to the pile in an attempt to inflate the issue. It also came after a comparatively high-profile publishing of my attendance of the Mohammed Cartoons panel discussion at UC Irvine, in March, on rayra.net. The infantile behaviour of the jihadists was on full display and they sorely did (do) want to know who and where I am.

Demonstrably those matters amounted to nothing as no prosecutions arose, I've never been contacted, and apparently the FBI office in Los Angeles has better things to do, like observing the jihadists at UC Irvine (and having their officers ACTUALLY menaced by 'activists').

It was two months later (8/31/06) in the midst of ongoing arguments with some Settler-first BDS-sufferers that I went off on one of their incessant non sequitur anti-Bush rants and a year of complaints about poor Moderation of Lib trolls and Bush- and Sharon-bashers came to a head. The 'Charles' in that argument did nothing. But 3 hrs later Charles showed up and the Purge began. A dozen of his former fact-checkers, folks decrying the decline of LGF as more and more whiny anklebiting bitches (of either gender) were allowed to roam free, were tossed out.

And the lead stalking psychotic we were all bitching about, American Infidel, was tossed out the next day as a fig leaf.

LGF's readership stats (by Charles own posted data) went into a months-long decline after our Stalinesque ouster. There was a spate of increase when Charles began pursuing social-networking sites like Digg, but when the Digg-baiting and naval-gazing code-tweaking got too much his viewership stats collapsed again. They now hover at the levels they achieved immediately in the wake of Memogate, fully 2-1/2yrs ago. The fatuous assholes that called US the problem are still there. Much of Charles' former audience is not. Guess we weren't the problem there.

Now kindly shut your festering libelous gob about the manufactured horsehit of my threatening to kill someone.

DJ,

Name calling. Nice. Stop and think about what you are saying. It is not "the people" who have sabotaged, or broken faith with the Republican Party, it is just the opposite. Patriots hold to an ideal that is America based on national heritage and constitutional principles - they are not party lemmings. You obviously have us confused with Democrats. Contrary to your assertions, holding our representatives accountable is not equivalent to "spite," "hate-blinded" or "stupid." Having representatives like Arlen Specter is as bad as having a Democrat in office. The sustenance of power isn't everything. Especially if one must sell their soul in the process.

As for the Democrat majority, the President and the rest of the Republicans have the means at their disposal to stand up to them and will not even exercise the prerogative. What good is power if you refuse to use it?

Jeff, I've heard people say "elections have consequences".

If you desert your team because you don't get the starting pitcher you want every game, what does that make you? How about when you demand 100% compliance with your personal whims every single time?

What does that make you, when you change your expectations of the "top issue" and blame the POTUS for things you never made a deal about until now, and you last hissy fit cost us control of Congress and put Guido and Knuckles in charge of the ship of state?

The Democrats are in control because so-called 'Conservatives' put them there. And yet they don't accept their personal culpability, because it's so much more fun blaming the only people actually doing anything about the problems.

"Name calling"? Friend, I have held back saying what some of these jokers are in character. Too bad my "fellow Conservatives" can't say the same.

Dj,

You've got it all wrong. It wasn't my hissy fit that helped lose control of congress. I didn't really throw one. I was at the polls voting early for Republicans just like always. But I wasn't overtly pissed off at my particular representatives either. I would relish the thought of bagging a nice RINO but I'm in the wrong state. Too bad. I would love a Voinovich head on my wall. The Republicans need this shake-up. It will be a good thing in the end.

Your "100% compliance" argument is a straw man. I am looking at the broad issues that are supposed to distinguish Republicans from Democrats. The list keeps getting smaller. Here's hoping that Fred Thompson is going to seriously rock the boat.

What I'm trying to say is, ... (Below threshold)
