False flags

A while ago, the British National Union of Journalists announced a boycott of Israel, along with calling for sanctions against the Jewish state by both Great Britain and the United Nations.

Oddly enough, last week Palestinians affiliated with Islamic Jihad and the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades (which, I thought, had changed their name to the "Yassir Arafat Martyrs Brigades" after that malignant tumor of a human being finally took the big dirt nap), affiliated with the "moderate" Fatah party, conducted yet another attempted invasion and kidnapping of Israeli soldiers. This time, though, they were sneaky: they approached the border in a van with big "TV" markings, impersonating journalists.

This particular move might be novel, but it's a variant on an older theme. Previously, the Palestinians have used UN vehicles (fake) and ambulances (real) in their attacks on Israel.

You know, this is a really clever idea. If you disguise yourself as a non-combatant, you have a far better chance of sneaking up and surprising your enemy. They won't suspect a thing until it's too late.

The only problem is that it is a flagrant violation of international law, and has been considered an atrocity and war crime for centuries. In fact, it has its own specific word and definition:

Perfidy.

The traditional response of such acts has been to announce that the misused symbols and insignia have lost their protective value, and it is the responsibility of the misusers to restore them to their prior status. In this case, it would be well within Israel's rights to announce that since their enemy has been using vehicles marked as UN vehicles, media vehicles, and ambulances to wage war, then it will consider all such vehicles potentially hostile and fire on them if they act in any way suspiciously. And it will continue to do so until the Palestinians somehow demonstrate that they will respect the sanctity of those markings and not misuse them.

That'll never happen, of course. Israel is too humane, too civilized a culture to do what it would be fully justified in doing, and the Palestinians will never make a single concession towards respecting the rules of warfare -- or of civilization.

But will this latest act of perfidy rouse the British press? Will it realize that the actions of the group they are so staunchly defending have put the very lives of their members at risk?

The cynic in me says that the Palestinians' act was only a minor act of perfidy, as much of the media has been an ally of them (and an enemy of Israel) for a long time, and this is just an extension of prior events.

Ironically, the sole voice of reason here is from the Palestinian Journalist Syndicate, who realize that this attack increases greatly their chances of getting killed by Israel much, much greater. They are protesting it, in an open act of self-preservation.

But the next time a journalist complains about how they were treated by Israel, remember that the Palestinians are making it harder and harder to distinguish a journalist from a terrorist -- and the journalists seem to have very little problem with it.

This is how they were able to kill Mas'ud "The Lion Of Panjshir", one of Afghanistan's most effective commanders against the Taliban.

I'm merely wondering now if the British National Union of Journalists will speak out against this. I looked them up and these people are seriously boycott enthusiasts! At this rate, before long, they won't be buying anything from anyone.

Disgusing themselves has worked pretty well for Israelis for the past 2,000 years. Why shouldn't gentiles use the same tactic?

Seriously Mr. Tea, quoting the latest atrocity is an endless series of reciprocal atriocites as justification for your side's next atrocity - doesn't work anymore. American's are tired of hearing it.

Israel is racist - in its founding ideology. It is responsible for its own problems.

It is time to open the borders of Israel - and allow the same kind of immigration you advocate for America to happen to Israel until it reflects the racial, religious, and cultural diversity of the Middle East region.

puckpan, that's a load of horse crap. If Israel "open[ed] the borders" there would quickly cease to be an Israel. Self-preservation is Israel's right.

How many Middle Eastern nations allow Jews to live within its borders? How many of them allow synagogues? How many of them will take in the so-called "Palestinians"? Yet somehow Israel allows Muslim Arabs to live within its borders, even become citizens. Go figure. If you demand it for Israel, you better be demanding it for the entire region.

No sir, I strongly disagree. Respecting those symbols despite perfidy on the part of your enemy is inhumane and uncivilized. We only gain humanity and civilization when we vigorously protect those ideals and conventions that make us humane and civilized. To turn a blind eye while civil conventions are twisted to the evil purposes of barbarians is inhumane, uncivilized and, worst of all, cowardly.

That was a joke, right?

Unless by "religious diversity" you mean the different flavors of Islam like Sunni, Shia, etc.

Unless by "cultural diversity" you mean what color burka they're wearing.

The funny part? I absolutely agree with that. The problem is that there is some disagreement as to who exactly is responsible.

Puck seems to blame all problems on the Jews, I blame those two particular ones on the various dictators in the Middle East.

I mean, they're dictators so all their "people" are, by definition, second class.
As to who kills their children, that would be the ones who convince them to strap on semtex vests and blow themselves up.

The funniest part? That's pretty much what Bush is trying to accomplish but I would bet mucho dinero that Puck thinks Bush is worse than Hitler.

Thats true, because Israel is a theocracy not a democracy, it is based on the premise of a Jewish state which has no room for a majority Muslim population. So what distinguishes it from any other theocracy, anything? It has never even ratified its own constitution, going on 60 years now, eh?. Indigenous Arab Jews have less rights than those who migrate from western countries, indigenous Arab villages aren't even recognized as existing. Yet Israel is touted as the only democracy in the Middle East. Why? They take the concept of eminent domain to whole new levels.

last week Palestinians affiliated with Islamic Jihad and the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.... affiliated with the "moderate" Fatah party, conducted yet another attempted invasion and kidnapping of Israeli soldiers.
Interestingly, knowing this, Hamas (who abided by a nearly 2 year ceasefire while Abbas' people kept firing rockets) is still decried as the terrorist group and with Israel's blessing, Abbas' Presidential Guard, run by the Durmush Clan, known and wanted terrorists by Israel, are funded and expanded. Why can't Abbas make his people stop with the rockets and give back the soldiers?

Why are we funding a group that we KNOW commit acts of terrorism, that we KNOW has the soldiers, that we KNOW calls themselves Al Qaeda in Palestine, because we like their brand of Islam? They are willing to be west friendly? Mohammed Dahlan is our friend? Does anyone know why we let more and more arms come into this country from Egypt for Abbas? Does anyone know how Haniyeh is sneaking the supposed funds from Iran into Palestine? Do you people ever ask questions or just nod yes, yes to whatever the latest press release is?

Talk about false flag operations, what is Abbas' Presidential Guard doing in Lebanon? Anyone know? Do the words Nicaragua/US or Iran/Contra mean anything to you people?

Is there anyone left in this sad world with a knowledge of recent history and critical thinking skills? Obviously not on this blog.
