Al Gore III Arrested for Drug Possession

Perhaps former Vice President Al Gore should stop worrying about everyone else's carbon footprint and help his son beat his drug problem.

Former Vice President Al Gore's son, Albert Gore III, was arrested early Wednesday morning in Orange County, California on suspicion of possessing marijuana and prescription drugs, the Orange County Sheriff's Department told CNN.

Gore, 24, was allegedly driving a Toyota Prius at 100 mph on the San Diego Freeway at 2:15 a.m. when a police officer pulled him over. The officer reported that he smelled marijuana and a search of the car yielded less than an ounce of the drug. The prescription drugs Valium, Xanax, Vicodin, and Adderall were in the car as well, police reported.

"He does not have a prescription for any of those drugs," Jim Amormino of the Sheriff's Department told The Associated Press.

Gore was booked into a Santa Ana jail under a $20,000 bond, the Sheriff's Department said.

I feel bad for him. His dad is out there "saving the world" from global warming while his son keeps trying to get his attention.

Gore III completed a substance abuse program in 2004 after he was charged with possession of marijuana in Maryland after police observed him driving without his headlights on.

He was ticketed for reckless driving by North Carolina police in August 2000 when he was clocked going 94 mph in a 55 mph zone. Military police arrested him for drunk driving near a military base in Virginia in September 2002.

(Jay Tea adds: I'm gonna bite the bullet here and agree with nogo. (Yes, it's even more painful than you can imagine.) The only thing newsworthy here is that a Prius will break triple digits. Unless and until Al 3 becomes a public figure in his own right, he should be left alone.)

Well, considering it's routinely estimated that people drive drunk/impaired greater than 7 times for each time they get caught, I think the odds are pretty good.

I hope young Gore gets his life together, before he kills others or himself.
I recall that he was nearly killed as a youngster when hit by a car in Washington.
I know this is a controversial topic in medical circles, but serious trauma, particularly head trauma, at an early age can really mess up a persons life well into adulthood. It is linked to depression, addictive behavior and other problems. But again, my comments are annecdotal.

pennywit:

A few years ago, I would have agreed about keeping politicians' children out of the news and not picking on them. But a few things make me change my mind.

First, I think that some of the "protection" should fall away when the kids become adults. No particular reason for it, I guess, but when you're an adult, it's time to take the lumps, even if it reflects poorly on Dear Old Dad.

Second, a number of politicos employ their family members in their campaigns; Al Gore's daughter Karenna, IIRC, worked on communications back during his 2000 campaign. When the candidate's children move from being mere political props into positions of actual responsibility during a campaign, it seems to me that behaving responsibly is part and parcel of being in the candidate's employ. If a candidate's South Carolina campaign manager can get in trouble for drugs, I see no reason to give that campaign worker a pass because he's the candidate's kin.

Finally ... and here's the big one ... American politics in the last generation has become almost disgustingly dynastic. I recognize there's always been some element of that in American politics, but it seems much more pronounced today. The Kennedy clan. The Bush family. A former First Lady potentially becoming president. The Doles. The Gores. The Bonos.

If these dynastic tendencies are going to continue in the future, then, yeah, Al Gore III's little indiscretions are quite appropriate to bring up, especially if the kid's likely to follow in Dad and Granddad's footsteps.

Anyone remember Rod Grams? His son was busted for DUI or something similar to what Al jr. just did. He was roundly condemned as a hypocrite by the left and lost his senate seat at least partially because of it. Turnabout is fair play. This sh*tbag should be in jail. Failing that he shouldn't have a license or access to a Prius. Why does he Mr. Gore? Maybe the press should be asking questions like that- but I'm sure they won't.

In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head,

ccg: I like that Bible vers... (Below threshold)
bryanD:

ccg: I like that Bible verse, but what's wrong with KJV? A Strong's Concordance (unedited version) and KJV allows the reader to translate back to the original tongues. The NIV is the product of the World Council of Churches, an anti-Christian outfit, and you'll never get a good concordance from them because they're running interference for the sons of Cain.

Study the first 6 chapters of Genesis with the tools I've suggested. You can do it at the library. You may be enlightened. Remember: UNEDITED version; the 1890 original was not PC. Neither is God. Hint: Cain was of the Devil, and was made protected by God for his purpose today. (Tricking dummies who read the NIV)

The online versions (I've seen) of Strong"s are the edited editions by somebody III. They're crap because they conflate the base root of "Kenite" as both "Children of Cain" and "Land of Cain", and Moses did NOT marry a daughter of Cain, though she was a Kenite (living in the LAND of Cain). Like wetbacks aren't Americans just because they live here. In 200 years, historians might be confused on this point (Mexicans in US for years), thus going back to the ORIGINAL LANGUAGE is KEY.

Plus the KJV is poetry fit for the word of God. "I, even I...", etc. NIV is a version of an English version: BAAAAD. Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic scholars assembled the KJV. Geneva Bible, too, but it's hard to find in English nowadays.
